Mumbai University and UNICEF Release Mental Health Guide for Mass Media Students

New Delhi: On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the Department of Communication and Journalism at the University of Mumbai, in collaboration with UNICEF, has unveiled a mental health handbook designed for mass media students.

This guide, titled "Navigating Waves of Mental Wellbeing," was created through the efforts of Tanuja Babre, the state consultant for mental health and psychosocial support at UNICEF Maharashtra, with input from journalism students at Mumbai University

It places a significant emphasis on emotional well-being, addressing career-related concerns, managing relationships, and promoting digital safety.

Dr. Sunder Rajdeep, the head of the Department of Communication and Journalism at the University of Mumbai, noted that this guide is valuable for mass media students and professionals, aiding them in understanding these issues and encouraging them to seek support.

Meanwhile, Mumbai University is on the verge of welcoming 49 new colleges in the upcoming academic year, as the state government has granted approval for the university's prospective plan for 2024-25.

While there is an increased focus on colleges offering skill-oriented, professional courses, it's noteworthy that the majority of these new colleges, numbering 32, will provide traditional Arts, Science, and Commerce programs.

A perspective plan serves as a roadmap for the future growth and development of the university. It takes into account the specific social and economic demands of the local region, and the job opportunities available, and aligns with industry requirements. Locations are carefully selected to establish new colleges that offer courses tailored to these needs.

Upon the recommendations of the respective universities for suitable locations, the state government grants its approval to the final plan.

Notably, the state employed Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for the first time to map existing higher education institutions in the state and to propose the locations for new ones.
