NTA has not released the JEE Main 2026 official exam dates for both sessions: Session 1 (January) and Session 2 (April). So, as per the previous years' analysis, it is expected that:

• NTA will start the registration of JEE Main Session 1 in 1st week of October 2025 till December 2025.
• The registration of JEE Main Session 2 is expected to start from 1st week of February till last week of February 2026.

JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in 2 sessions, with Session 1 in January 2026 and Session 2 in April 2026.

• For Session 2, the JEE Main registration is expected in February 2026.

Candidates applying for JEE Main 2026 must keep certain documents ready to avoid rejection of their forms. As per the advisory, these updated documents are mandatory for eligible candidates:

• UDID card (if applicable)
• Caste/Category certificates 

In addition, a scanned passport-sized photograph and signature in the prescribed format must be uploaded while filling out the JEE Main registration form.

JEE Main is conducted twice every year in January and April sessions. As per the JEE Main rules for the number of attempts, a candidate can appear for JEE Main 6 times.

• Students can appear for JEE Main 2 times each year in 3 consecutive years.

Candidates have to pay a set JEE Main 2026 registration fee to complete the application process. JEE Main application fee varies for candidates based on certain parameters like:

• Number of papers opted by the candidate

JEE Main 2026 reservation policy will have Vertical and horizontal reservations. Vertical reservations are different for each group and are not transferable to other categories: for OBC-NCL candidates of 27%, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 10% for GEN-EWS. There is a 5% horizontal reservation for PwD in all categories.

In JEE Main Eligibility criteria, there is no minimum percentage required to appear in either session (January or April) of JEE Main 2026. You must pass (or appear in) Class 12 in 2024, 2025, or 2026, with PCM (and/or other required subjects per paper)

As per the JEE Main 2026 eligibility criteria, this is no upper or lower age limit. All candidates, whether droppers, gap-year students, or repeaters, are included.

JEE Main 2026 registration session 1 is expected to start in the 1st week of November 2025 and close by the last week of November, followed by the correction window in the 1st week of December 2025.

NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2026 exam in two sessions: Session 1 (January 2026) and Session 2 (April 2026). The exams will be held in 2 shifts, i.e, morning shift from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and afternoon shift from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM over several days.

• JEE Main 2026 Session 1 is expected from January 22 to 30, 2026
• JEE Main 2026 Session 2 is expected to start from April 4 to 10, 2026.

The format of the JEE Main exam has not changed since 2025 so far. The JEE Main Exam pattern has returned to the pre-pandemic format. The JEE Main exam consists of 75 questions (25 each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) in 3 hours through CBT.

This structure was restored in 2024 and it will continue in JEE Main 2026, along with the removal of section B, which allowed optional numerical questions (students could choose 5 out of 10).

“All 75 questions are compulsory to attempt.”

JEE Main negative marking is released along with the JEE Main exam pattern by NTA.

• As per the JEE Main exam pattern and marking scheme, there will be a negative marking of -1 mark for each incorrect MCQ and Numerical Value Based questions.
• There is no negative marking for drawing questions.

Candidates are allowed up to 6 attempts in JEE Main 2026. You get to appear for two sessions per year over 3 consecutive years from the year of passing Class 12. There is no minimum percentage necessary to appear in JEE Main 2026.

UDID Card stands for Unique Disability ID card. The government issues the UDID Card to persons with disabilities as an ID with their disability details.

• Availability of Preferred Language Centers: JEE Main 2025 will be conducted in 13 languages across different centers. Ensure the chosen city offers the test in your preferred language, especially if you’re opting for a regional language.
• City Preferences Order: During registration, candidates need to select four cities in order of preference. The National Testing Agency (NTA) tries to allocate centers based on the chosen priority, but due to logistical reasons, it may assign a different city if preferences are unavailable.
• Exam Center Merging: If there are few candidates in a particular city, NTA may merge centers to optimize resources. Candidates may be allotted a different nearby city if their chosen city does not meet the minimum candidate count.

JEE Main 2026 Registration Fee is non-refundable and has to be paid based on your category and the number of papers.
