As per the Director General of the NTA, a four-member high power committee has already been set up which is investigating what happened in the 6 exam centres where those 1563 students have appeared for the NEET UG 2024.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India decided to stay proceedings in pleas filed in Rajasthan, Calcutta and Bombay High Court on NEET UG 2024 paper leak scam. The Joint Secretary of the Indian Education Ministry assured that the grace marks have been addressed. As for the alleged paper leak, the Bihar EOU is investigating. Once the government receives detailed input from Bihar police they will take action based on that. The Education Ministry also stated that they are ready to conduct a fresh examination for NEET UG 2024 if the SC gives the green signal to proceed with it.
A vacation bench of Justice Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti also sought responses from the parties on various pleas filed by the NTA seeking the transfer of some pending petitions from the high courts to the apex court. The next NEET UG 2024 hearing is on July 8, 2024.
Amid all these, the SC did not put any stay order on the NEET UG 2024 counselling process which is scheduled for July. The NEET UG 2024 re-examination for the 1563 students who were given grace marks previously will be held on June 23, 2024, as per the SC order. What Did the Education Ministry Say About the NEET UG 2024 Scam?
The Ministry of Education on June 19, 2024 made a statement regarding the NEET UG 2024 controversy, "In the matter pertaining to the NEET(UG) Examination-2024, the issue related to grace marks has already been fully addressed. As regards certain irregularities alleged in the conduct of the examination in Patna, a detailed report has been sought from the Economic Offences Unit, Bihar Police. Government will take further action, on receipt of this report. Government is committed to ensure the sanctity of examinations and protect the interest of students. It is reiterated that any individual/organization found to be involved in this matter will face strictest action."
What Fueled the Question of the Cancellation of the NEET UG 2024?
The Bihar police arrested four men who confessed that the NEET UG 2024 question paper was leaked the previous day. These four men are Anurag Yadav (aspirant), Sikandar Yadavendu (Junior Engineer at Danapur Municipal Council), Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand.
Anurag Yadav claimed in his confessional note that the NEET UG 2024 question paper given to him at the exam centre had matched 100% with the paper that he bought the previous day. After the confession, the Economic Offenses Unit of the Bihar Police started to probe into this case.
On June 20, 2024, the SC sought responses from the Centre, the NTA and others on petitions seeking the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024.
