New Delhi: According to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, IIT Bhubaneswar intends to construct a facility of Excellence (CoE) for laboratory-grown diamonds and a facility for materials characterisation, processing, and manufacture.
The new structures will progress the Institute's research, development, and innovation while encouraging entrepreneurship, boosting employment, and strengthening linkages between industry and academics.
“It is encouraging to learn that IIT Bhubaneswar plans to expand its experimental facilities and open two ground-breaking centres, one for laboratory grown diamonds and the other for materials characterization, processing, and production,” said Pradhan.
According to him, both of these facilities will boost IIT Bhubaneswar's innovation and research in the material sciences, strengthen industry-academia ties, assist in the development of crucial technologies, promote entrepreneurship, increase employment, and help India become self-sufficient in frontier markets.
As per official sources, the institute will work with an IIT alum to grow diamonds in a lab. The centre would be established once the proposal has been approved, according to an IIT Bhubaneswar official.
At IIT Bhubaneswar, he founded the Centre of Excellence for Virtual and Augmented Reality. This CoE will foster application-driven research, speed up the digital revolution across disciplines, and encourage entrepreneurship.
Pradhan stated that augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) can change a variety of industries, including architecture, healthcare, and education. He urged IIT Bhubaneswar to localise the ideas and solutions in addition to keeping up with the evolving expectations of the new India.
In line with the principles of the national education policy (NEP), he communicated with newly hired faculty members and urged them to instill social responsibility in young minds as well as train them to become global citizens.
He exhorted the IIT Bhubaneswar team to launch a significant plantation push by July of this year in order to make the campus sustainable and green.
He examined the developments at IIT Bhubaneswar, IIM Sambalpur, NIT Rourkela, Central University of Odisha, Koraput, and IISER Berhampur in terms of work, research, and other areas.
