Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal has been ranked fourth in academic category and sixth in the overall category in Nature Index Ranking 2023.

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal has secured fourth rank in the academic category of Nature Index annual table for 2023. The institute has improved from its ranking of 10th in the academic category from the previous year.

The institute also moved up from rank 13 to position 6 overall, winning first place among all IISERs in the country. A new rating has been announced based on information from the Nature Index between January 1 and December 31, 2022.

Speaking on this occasion, the Director of IISER Bhopal, Prof. Siva Umapathy, stated, "We are pleased to see us advance in The Nature Index annual table 2023. Our goal at IISER Bhopal is to collaborate with key figures in academia and business to create a collaborative research ecosystem”.

“Due to the combined efforts of our academics, students, and staff in research, teaching, and outreach, the institute's rating has increased this year compared to last year”, he further added. The Nature Index is widely regarded as the most challenging and esteemed tool used to evaluate the accomplishments of organisations and institutes in scientific research.

Ranking highly in the index is regarded as a global indicator of excellence in research performance. The Nature Index 2023 Annual Tables track production in four natural-science categories as well as four high-quality medical journals for the first time.

IISER Bhopal is consistently strengthening its position in national and international rankings, and it currently holds the 60th spot in NIRF Ranking 2023. The institute moved up 281-290 spots in QS Asia Ranking 2023's overall category and ranked 57th (national rank) out of 70 institutions out of a total of 1500.
