With a proposed intake of 375, IIM Udaipur rolls out a new independent MBA admission process for the 2026–28 cohort. Here’s everything you need to know about eligibility, weightages, and process changes after CAP exit.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Udaipur, has announced the detailed admission policy for its 16th batch of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme for the 2026-28 academic session. The release confirms the institution's shift to an independent selection process following its exit from the Common Admission Process (CAP) and a focus on candidate profile evaluation for its cohort of 375 students.
The MBA selection process at IIM Udaipur is a four-step cycle that places emphasis on CAT 2025 scores, online registration, shortlisting for and attending the Personal Interview (PI), and finally, the preparation of the Final Merit List.
IIM Udaipur MBA is its flagship 2-year full-time residential program. The institute will release the admission schedule for its MBA program on the official website, admissions.iimu.ac.in.

Phase I: Mandatory Online Registration
All eligible candidates who chose IIM Udaipur in their CAT 2025 application and meet the minimum sectional and overall percentile cutoffs will be invited for the online registration. This invite will be sent via email. Failure to register within the application window will result in automatic disqualification from the further admission process.
NOTE: This stage is a pre-interview requirement and does not mean a Personal Interview (PI) call.
While the Institute is yet to release the official shortlisting cut-offs for the 2026-28 cycle, the previous year's minimum eligibility criteria are provided as a baseline for prospective candidates:
| Category | VARC | DILR | QA | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General | 75 | 75 | 75 | 95 |
| EWS | 55 | 55 | 55 | 81 |
| NC-OBC | 52 | 52 | 52 | 81 |
| SC | 45 | 45 | 45 | 66 |
| ST/PwD | 25 | 25 | 30 | 42 |
The Institute reserves the right to adjust these minimum scores, both sectional and overall, to meet the desired number of candidates for the subsequent PI stage across various categories.

Shortlisting for the PI process will be based on a combination of the CAT 2025 score and the candidate’s profile. The profile assessment includes academic performance (Class 10th and 12th), undergraduate marks, certified work experience, and gender diversity.
The Personal Interview will evaluate a candidate’s communication skills, depth of thought, and overall suitability for the management programme. The PI sessions will be conducted at multiple designated centres, including Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, and the IIM Udaipur campus. Aspirants must indicate a minimum of three location preferences; however, the final allocation remains at the sole discretion of the Institute.
Phase III: Final Merit List and Weightage Distribution
The Final Merit List is prepared based on a defined composite score calculation post-PI. The policy clearly establishes the relative weightage of the three main components:
| Component | Weightage in 2026 | Weightage in 2025 | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normalised CAT Score | 55% | 57% | Utilises the actual CAT score (not percentile), normalised against the highest score among all PI attendees. |
| Personal Interview (PI) | 25% | 21% (WAT-PI) | Evaluates qualitative aspects, subject knowledge, and leadership potential. |
| Profile | 20% | 22% | Comprehensive assessment across Academic Background (6%), Work Experience (6%), and Diversity Factors (8%). |
Earlier, the Normalised CAT score weightage for admission was 57% showing a 2% this year. The WAT-PI round had a combined weightage of 21% which has now been changed to 25% only for PI. The profile earlier weighed 22% and has now been reduced to 20% under the new admission policy.
The substantial 55% weightage for the Normalised CAT Exam Score confirms the importance of the test performance in the final selection, while the 45% allocation to PI and Profile ensures a balanced, merit-cum-profile assessment.
The policy introduces strict guidelines for quantifying the work experience (as of January 31, 2026). Only candidates with formally documented, post-qualification employment experience will be accepted.
The policy clearly excludes several forms of professional engagement, notably: internships, projects, part-time, or pre-graduation work; articled training during CA/CMA/CS programmes; unpaid or fellowship work; and jobs paid in cash or through UPI applications.
For candidates claiming self-employment or partnership experience, a mandatory list of documents, including registered partnership deeds, GST registration, PAN Card, and the firm's Income Tax Returns (ITR), is required for authentication.
Accepted candidates must submit an Offer Acceptance Fee of ₹1,00,000/-. In case of early withdrawals, IIM Udaipur offers a near-full refund (deducting ₹1,000). In case of withdrawals on or after the programme commencement date (i.e., June 22, 2026), full fee is refunded after a deduction of ₹30,000 administrative charges. If a candidate withdraws his/ her admission after July 6, 2026, no course fee refund will be refunded (except for the hostel & mess charges).
