IIM Shillong Launches Program Connecting Students with the Local Community of Meghalaya; Check Details Here

New Delhi: IIM Shillong is set to start a new journey on a unique initiative that aims to foster a strong bond between its students and the local community of Meghalaya.

IIM Shillong organized a meeting with the village head of Khasi and Jantia hills for collaboration on skill development, jobs, etc. A federation of traditional village leaders of Khasi and Jantia Hills, Meghalaya were present called KaaSynjuk Ki NongsynharShnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep. This meeting aims to encourage the development of the North Eastern region.

As discussed in the meeting a “Community Immersion Program (CIP)” of IIM Shillong will also be launched which will help students to connect with the local community. Students will also get to learn about the culture, traditions, and values of the North East.

The institution said that the IIM students will spend a week living with the community, supporting local businesses and organizations with management approaches and interventions.

The program's objectives go beyond providing students with an academic experience. It will also help in creating awareness, offering career counselling, and providing vocational training. This partnership will also support community immersion programs, promote skill development, and foster sustainability.

D P Goyal, director of IIM Shillong has mentioned several initiatives undertaken by the institution which will help in the development of the region. He also mentioned that collaborations and industry partnerships will promote entrepreneurship and job creation.

“There is a need for enhanced awareness, mentoring, training, improved infrastructure, and support for start-ups in the region,” said the IIM Shillong director.

Bah R L Blah, along with the members of the Executive Council expressed their appreciation for this initiative taken by IIM Shillong and also acknowledged the institute’s various training programs for the students and youths of Meghalaya
