IIM Bombay Wins First Prize in Cummins India B-School Case Study Competition – Redefine 2023

New Delhi: Cummins India, the American engine manufacturer, has announced the champions of its primary B-school case study competition, Redefine 2023. 

Team Vision from the IIM Mumbai, have secured the coveted trophy and cash prize, emerging as the winner of the competition, with the Team Comeback from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, SPJIMR Mumbai, being awarded the runner-up position. Both victorious teams are set to participate in a valuable mentorship program with Cummins India leadership.

The teams that participated in this year's edition of the annual competition included Hellios from the IIM Lucknow; The Benchwarmers from Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development, Pune; Vision from IIM, Mumbai; Synergy from NMIMS; Inquisitors from NMIMS, Mumbai; and Comeback from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai.

Theme for the B-School Case Study Competition

The theme for this edition was 'Unlocking the Power of Digitalization in the Aftermarket,' drawing engagement from a substantial pool of over 3,752 students organized into 938 teams, representing 18 of the country's leading B-schools.

After undergoing rigorous evaluation processes, six finalist teams were carefully chosen and brought to Pune for their participation in the two-day grand finale. The event not only incorporated insightful leadership talks and networking opportunities but also included exclusive tours of the Cummins Technical Centre India and the Kothrud Engine Plant. The culmination took place with the jury evaluation round hosted at Cummins India Office Campus (IOC).

During the grand finale ceremony, the finalists had the opportunity to present their solutions to a distinguished panel of jury members from Cummins India. This esteemed panel included Anupama Kaul, Human Resources Leader; Subramanian Chidambaran, Strategy Leader; and Vivek Malapati, Vice-President, Distribution Business Unit and New and Recon Parts Organization.

Extending her congratulations to all the winners, finalists, and participants, Anupama Kaul, HR Leader at Cummins India, acknowledged their exceptional contributions, highlighting that their efforts had, once again, led to the success of Redefine for the seventh consecutive year. 

Kaul underscored that Redefine is crafted to inspire students to address real-world business challenges with creative and forward-thinking solutions. She noted that this annual event serves as evidence of Cummins India's longstanding commitment to nurturing young minds and cultivating a growth mindset.

Subramanian Chidambaran, the Strategy Leader at Cummins India, expressed that Redefine is designed to present aspiring business leaders with complex business scenarios. The objective is to stimulate their intellect, encouraging them to solve real-world challenges with a combination of creativity and acumen.

Chidambaran said that year after year, Redefine provides Cummins India with a valuable opportunity to engage with the brightest minds and the future stars of the business world. He also added that the innovative thinking and visionary solutions consistently demonstrated by the winning teams of Redefine 2023 serve as a wellspring of inspiration. 

Chidambaran concluded by highlighting that these teams showcased not only analytical skills but also strategic thinking, along with an exceptional ability to present their solutions with clarity and persuasion.
