GU will offer online Ba and MA English courses and BCom and MCom General courses among others from June 01, 2024 onwards.

New Delhi: Starting from June 01, 2024, Gujarat University (GU) will introduce six new online courses for the academic year 2024-25. The courses consist of three Bachelor’s degree courses and three Master’s degree courses. Admissions will take place twice a year, once in January and then again in June.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted GU permission for all six courses. The courses were meant to begin last year but could not do so due to the lack of a portal for the conduction of the online courses. GU signed an MoU with an agency to provide the portal for this year.
The courses include a BCom and MCom General, a BA and MA in English, and a BSc and MSc in Mathematics. The initiative for online courses is part of NEP implementations occurring across the country. The course fees are yet to be determined. Degrees received from the online course will be equivalent to a regular degree from Gujarat University.
Jagadish Joshi, who will be in charge of the online courses at GU, said, “As per the UGC norms, we can admit four times more students in online courses than offline. For example, if BA has 5,000 students, we are at liberty to admit 20,000 students in a single term.”
Adding that the programs will feature the MOOCs pedagogy, Joshi also said “[The] students will be able to take admission from anywhere in the world. They can learn at their own speed…Students can study using their smartphones, tablets, laptops, PCs or any device which can access the internet.”
