New Delhi: The University of Delhi (DU) has received a funding of INR 272 Crore for setting up residential accommodation for girls and working women pursuing higher education at the university.
Union Minister Smt Smriti Irani announced the project sanctioned under the Nirbhaya Fund. The announcement was made at the Vikas Bharat Ambassador-Nari Shakti Conclave at Delhi University north campus.
“Aligned with PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, this initiative empowers working women and girls pursuing higher education. This project will provide 1,000 beds with enhanced security, CCTV surveillance and gender-sensitive amenities,” she said.

Of the total amount, INR 72 crore will be used for the deployment of CCTV surveillance systems across the campus. The residential development will be built in two phases, with 500 rooms in each phase. Ultimately, the facility will encompass 1000 beds, supported by a wide range of enhanced security features and gender-sensitive amenities.
