New Delhi: In a recent judgement, Delhi High Court has granted its permission to Delhi University's St. Stephens College to proceed with conducting interviews for offering admissions under the minority quota for the academic session 2023-24. The decision comes as a relief after a petition was raised in Delhi HC concerning the interview process for St Stephen’s College admissions.

Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma led the bench and granted permission to Jesus and Mary College to conduct interviews for the seats allocated to minority-category students. The court issued its order in response to the minority colleges' applications seeking a stay on the executive council of Delhi University's (DU) decision dated December 8, 2022.

The council had mandated 100 % weightage for the CUET 2023 score as a criterion for admission to the minority quota. St. Stephen's College, affiliated with Delhi University, is known for reserving a specific number of seats for religious and linguistic minority students. The Delhi HC’s verdict enables the college to continue its tradition of ensuring the representation and inclusion of students from minority communities.

For the academic year 2023-2024, Delhi University (DU) has witnessed an extraordinary response for DU UG Admissions. The university has recorded an impressive count of over 3.04 lakh registrations for DU UG Admission, making this year's admission process a resounding success. Delhi University's Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) serves as the platform for UG registrations.

As of now, a total of 3,04,699 candidates have registered on the CSAS portal, out of which 2,45,235 have successfully submitted their application forms. St. Stephen's College has been admired for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that encourages intellectual growth and cultural exchange among students from various backgrounds.

The continuation of interviews for minority seat admissions further strengthens the college's commitment to maintaining this enriching ecosystem. The verdict of the court reinforces the significance of respecting the autonomy of educational institutions in shaping their admission policies while ensuring diversity in the student community.
