New Delhi: DDU Gorakhpur will enforce the revised Pre-PhD course under the new Ph.D. Ordinance 2024 to promote research excellence and innovation. Under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. Poonam Tandon, the University has introduced several student-centric provisions to promote research and a research-centric approach among researchers.
New Ph.D. Ordinance 2024 at Deendayal Upadhyay University Gorakhpur emphasises completing pre-PhD courses to develop a fundamental understanding of research institutions among researchers. Old Ph.D. Under the 2021 Ordinance, a mandatory pre-PhD curriculum of 21 credits was required, including compulsory, subject-specific, and research-specific courses.
Although this curriculum structure was considered comprehensive, it could have been more conducive to effective research outcomes. Keeping these challenges in mind, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Poonam Tandon advocated amending the Pre-PhD program to make it more research-oriented and subject-specific.
DDU University Revised Pre-PhD Curriculum Highlights
The revised Pre-PhD program is of 12 credits and now consists of three courses:
- Research and Publication Ethics (1+1 credit): Providing insight into publication ethics and research misconduct.
- Research Methodology (5+0 Credits): Subject-specific methods covering innovations and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
- Subject/Discipline Specific Courses (5+0 Credits): This program reflects specialisation in the research area and provides for options.
The revised courses aim to use innovative research methods, techniques, and approaches to advance knowledge and understanding in related fields. The new program has reduced credits, which means that the teaching hours in the 15-week program will be 315 hours. This will be reduced to 180 hours.
This will enable research students to get more time for actual research work. All departments have been directed to revise the pre-PhD curriculum in line with the new PhD Ordinance 2024.
Before the Research Entrance Test (RET) and Ph.D. Admission, the University also prepared a pre-PhD program according to the amended Ph.D. Ordinance. This reflects the University's proactive approach to academic and research excellence.
These initiatives are expected to enhance the research standards and capabilities of the University's researchers and promote an excellent research culture.
