Mr. Utkarsh Abhilash has been working as the Additional Director and Trustee of Mahadeva Lal Schroff College of Pharmacy, Aurangabad, Bihar for more than 2 years. He has done B.Com from Pune University in 2012 and MBA from UPES in 2014 as part of his education. In addition to this, he has cleared Master of Management Business Analyst qualification from University of Sydney Business School in 2019-2020.

Being an Assistant Director of the Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

As an Assistant Director of the Department, my key responsibilities are to provide best possible academic support to my dear ambitious students, assist them with correct course selection and help them understand the curriculum requirements etc. Apart from this, I work as a personal advisor for students and guide them as and when required for their academic and career goals so they can navigate their educational journey smoothly and make informed decisions. I also need to provide them good internships and research projects to work upon and also assist them for study abroad programs.

Creating a positive and engaging learning environment for students, working closely with student organizations, clubs and committees to promote student involvement and get them leadership opportunities, encouraging students to participate in co-curricular activities such as workshops, seminars, conferences, and community service projects and ensuring they get best support services, counseling sessions and tutoring classes also comes under the scope of my responsibilities. Lastly, I am accountable to address students academic and non-academic issues, conflicts and disputes with their peers or faculty members, facilitate open communication, mediate discussions and work towards mutually acceptable solutions and collaborate with the counseling center to ensure that students have access to mental health support and resources.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?

I would like to advise my dear students to follow their passion while choosing a career path and look for opportunities where they can utilize their skills and unique talents, learn new things and upgrade their knowledge and feel joyful. Because it is human nature that whenever we do something we like the most, results are exceptional qualitatively as well as quantitatively. Also, cultivate a mindset of continuous learning and growth as our world is constantly evolving, and staying up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies is essential for us to survive in this cut-throat competitive market. Apart from this, do participate in workshops, seminars, online courses, and professional development programs, build a strong professional network, attend industry events and join professional organizations that can give a push to your career and give the latest insights of the industrial world.

And, in addition to domain-specific skills, focus on developing transferable skills that are valued across industries, embrace challenges and start taking risks because fear of failure will only stop you from exploring new horizons, although setbacks are inevitable, but they provide valuable opportunities for growth and learning.

What interventions and approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach students?

I firmly believe that being a student is not an easy task at all, because they have to deal with multiple things at a time including enhancing their skills and maintaining a balance between their studies and sports etc. Therefore the very first approach I have taken to help them upgrade their knowledge and grow on a personal and professional level, is that we regularly conduct field trips, co-operative education programs and also offer real-time projects to them through internship so that they can easily relate the theoretical aspects of various subjects with its real-time applications. And we regularly collaborate with eminent corporate houses and professionals to provide an overview of real-world scenarios to students and work together on research projects, and to bring this into reality, guest lectures, industrial visits are organized by us from time to time.

In addition to this we offer skill development programs to students to help them develop essential skills beyond the hard-coded curriculum. And workshops, seminars and rigorous training sessions are conducted as and when required to inculcate best skills like communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking in ambitious youths of our institution.

Last but not the least, we have developed such an environment on campus that can promote creativity in students and give them a platform to experiment with their amazing business ideas.

When you joined this Institute, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same?

When I joined this wonderful institute, my vision was to create such a transformative educational experience for students that would cultivate a culture of innovation and creativity in them and make us a leading center of education. And to fulfill my aspirations, I am using different strategies and initiatives, details for which are mentioned below.

  • Enhancing Academic Excellence: For the purpose of ensuring excellent quality education for our students, we have adopted a rigorous curriculum and have developed such a growth environment on campus that can recruit and retain highly qualified faculty. Along with this, I have implemented faculty development programs to help teachers enhance their teaching methodologies and focus on their research work by promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Building Collaborative Partnerships: With the aim of bridging the gap between students' skills and industry demands, providing best hands-on learning experiences, internships and placement opportunities to students and keeping our courses relevant with respect to corporate developments and trends, we have maintained strong partnerships with reputed industries, educational institutions and academic communities.
