Dr. B.M Satish has been working as the Dean of School of Engineering at Mohan Babu University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. He has done Bachelors in Engineering from Bangalore University, M.S in Technological Operations from BITS Pilani, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Mysore as part of his education. He has a rich 25 years of experience in Teaching, Research and Administration.
He is an individual with strong communication and presentation skills, effective collaboration and team building capabilities and a zeal to adapt to latest technological and leadership concepts and utilize the same in a productive and effective manner for the progress of the Institution.
For his wonderful work in the education sector, he has been awarded with the “Career Award for Young Teachers” by the All India Council for Technical Education - New Delhi in 2005. Apart from this , he has also executed funded Research projects from AICTE, ISRO, CSIR, and UGC.

What inspired you to join the Mohan Babu University of Tirupati?
The Mohan Babu University is passionate about achieving its key targets by transforming the students and faculty community into next generation leaders and faculty members here play the role of a Researcher, Consultant, Mentor and Counselor for the skills enhancement and betterment of the students.
Apart from this, the University has maintained a students-centric approach for their holistic growth and overall personality development.
To put it in a nut-shell, MBU is a goal-oriented University and always focuses on student development incessantly, and this provides enormous scope to explore infinite opportunities to teachers working with it. So I would say the working environment of MBU has inspired me to join it.
Being the Dean of SoE, how do you maintain stability and balance between the needs of faculty, students, and administration?
I firmly believe that be it any role, challenges are always there, but with effective leadership, strategic decision-making followed by timely action and communication can help an individual to overcome the biggest of hurdles as well.
And to ensure a balance between academic requirements of students and staff members, I have adopted a student-centric approach, maintained an environment of open, empathetic and respectful communication and regularly involve every stakeholder in the decision-making process.
Other than this, I make sure that all the discrepancies and conflicts be it between anyone, students and teachers or among faculty members, are addressed and resolved on time.
What makes MBU different and unique as compared to other educational institutions?
Our University has a very understanding and supportive Management, highly educated and extensively experienced faculty members followed by an elite and focused student community with their inspiring achievements. And all this defines our strength as well as segregates us from other educational institutions.
How do you stay updated with the latest trends and developments of the Engineering field and incorporate them into the curriculum and programs of MBU?
For the purpose of staying up-to-date with the latest trends, development and technologies of the corporate sector, we regularly engage with industry professionals through various kinds of events and activities and also involve them in the BoS of all Departments.
Apart from this, Faculty Development Programs, industry driven hands-on training sessions and Students Development Programs are also conducted from time to time. Many of our teachers are also present in the prominent advisory boards of leading industries and this ultimately helps us in curriculum review.
Last but not the least, students are engaged in market research and surveys, research and consultancy activities and are also encouraged to pursue online certification courses through learning platforms like MOOC.

With which industries and organizations has MBU collaborated for live projects, training and placements of students?
Our Mohan Babu University through its erstwhile Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College has maintained a good rapport with top-notch technological leaders like IBM, SAP, Siemens, L&T, Nanochips, Accenture, Cognizant, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, CISCO and Amazon etc. to provide live projects to students and ensure training programs to make them industry ready.
How does MBU provide a conducive learning environment with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to students?
It is a well known fact that creating a conducive learning environment with ultra-modern facilities and infrastructure requires careful planning, investment, and ongoing maintenance.
And to ensure the same in MBU Campus, we are using comprehensive assessment facilities and allocate a dedicated budget for establishing world class amenities and infrastructure on campus. Along with this, multi-stakeholders collaborations happen on a regular basis and latest technologies are integrated in the college's curriculum as and when required.
MBU has also created an innovative learning space and ambiance of continuous and transparent communication and takes feedback from students, staff members and teachers to improve things. Last but not the least, our college collaborates with renowned industries to stay compliant with their needs and trends.
What kinds of challenges do you usually face being the Dean of SoE and how do you plan to address them?
As Dean of the School of Engineering and School of Computing, I have come across several significant challenges including the rapid advancements which are happening in the technological domain and gaps present between academia and industrial developments and requirements.
Apart from this, constraints we face while collecting funds to revamp college infrastructure or carry out research projects, evolving teaching pedagogies, globalization and internationalization, faculty recruitment and retention, lack of ethics and professionalism among students, remote and hybrid learning modes, need to stay compliant with regulatory and accreditation requirements and skills enhancement of students followed by maintaining an environment of research and innovation poses different kinds of roadblocks at different levels.
And to address these challenges being a Dean, I have implemented an amalgamation of different strategic techniques. And firstly, we have employed an environment of effective, regular, transparent and trustworthy communication, and collaborates on a regular basis with all stakeholders who work for us and work with us. Apart from this, we have developed an ambiance of dynamic and inclusive working-learning for ensuring everyone's personal and professional growth.
How would you promote the culture of experiential learning within the College?
I strongly believe that fostering a culture of innovation and experiential learning is very essential within an educational institution to provide real-world skills to students and enhance their subject understanding. Hence our college offers project based courses, cross-disciplinary projects, internships and co-op programs to students on a regular basis.
Along with this, students are taught using real-time case studies, taken for field trips, professional development workshops and site visits and peer mentoring and tutoring sessions are organized from time to time. Lastly, Hackathons, technical competitions and events related to Entrepreneurship and Innovation are conducted as and when needed and MBU also has established Simulations and Virtual Labs and taken various Service-Learning Initiatives to foster the ambiance of practical learning.
What kind of steps MBU is taking to bridge the gap between academia and the requirements of the industrial world?
Our Mohan Babu University is taking a variety of strategic steps and actions to bridge the gaps between academia and the needs of the corporate sector, promote productive collaborations with leading industries and also to make students ready for the professional world.
Firstly, we have established an Industry Advisory Board and also regularly upgrade the curriculum of our college in accordance with latest technologies, trends, development and needs of industries. And this board helps us a lot by providing valuable suggestions and feedback to include new programs in curricula and discard the old ones. Other than this, events and activities like guest lectures, workshops, networking sessions, skills development programs, company visits, site tours, Industry Mentoring & Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programs for students are regularly conducted by us in association with expert professionals and eminent academicians.
Secondly, we work on collaborative research work and industry driven capstone projects in collaboration with corporate people to discover new things and foster an ambiance of innovation among teachers and students. Last but not the least, we are offering internships to students in reputed organizations and industries from time to time in order to enhance their skills and help them utilize the classroom learning to real-time scenarios.
