Dr. Jitendra Kumar Sharma has been associated as a Professor of HRM at Sant Hirdaram Institute of Management since 2016. He holds 22 years of work experience, which includes 20 years in academics and two years in industry. He has worked at the Prestige Institute of Management and Research Indore and other AICTE approved management institutes of repute. His areas of interest include HRM, Marketing and Research. After completing MBA in 2000, he was awarded a Ph.D. in Management in 2008. Dr. Sharma was the recipient of the ‘Best Ph.D. Thesis Award’ in 2009. As a Ph.D. Guide in Management at Devi Ahilya University Indore, seven scholars have been awarded under his supervision. With more than 50 publications to his credit in national and international journals, he has presented papers at IIMs and other reputed institutes. He had conducted MDPs, EDPs, and FDPs at various levels. Currently, he is the Coordinator of the Academics and Examinations Cell, the Convener of Certificate Programs and the Editor of the JSSGIW Journal of Management.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What keeps you connected with the education sector and how has your experience been so far with the institute?

I've been working in education for more than 20 years because I enjoy helping the students learn and grow. It has been fulfilling to guide the students and see them become future leaders. From getting my MBA in 2000 to earning a Ph.D. in Management in 2008, I've always been curious and eager to learn new things. Working at this institute has been great because I've been able to make a difference and learn from my colleagues and students along the way. I've found joy in witnessing the progress of individuals as they develop their skills and knowledge. 


The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

Our institute focuses on practical learning, hands-on experience, and critical thinking, which can be beneficial for the students looking to broaden their horizons and prepare for the global workforce. Additionally, students can mix with people from all over, learning about different cultures and ways of thinking. This helps them understand and appreciate different viewpoints in better way. Overall, studying here can provide inbound students with a well-rounded education and a memorable experience.

How does the curriculum of your institute ensure the best practices of industry?

Our institute is a women's college offering MBA, BBA and MBA (Integrated) programs. We're approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to Barkatullah University in Bhopal. We focus on empowering women and having a lively campus life. Our curriculum is designed to teach students what's happening in the real business world. We make sure they get hands-on experience through internships and projects so they're ready for their future jobs when they graduate.


What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the institute and the students are?

As a faculty member, my main job is to help students learn about human resources and how it works in the real world. I teach them things like hiring, training, and managing people in companies. I also need to make sure I'm up-to-date with the latest trends in HR and that I'm giving students the skills they need to succeed in their future jobs. Additionally, I'm here to support the students and help them with any questions or problems they might come across along the way. Overall, my role is to make sure that the students are learning and growing, both academically and personally during their time at the institute.


Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

For the present youth, I would advise them to keep learning. Keep upskilling yourself and stay curious, as it will help you grow. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in the industry to stay competitive and keep getting access to the best jobs.
