How does AIMS ensure that teachers stay up to date with new technologies and teaching methods to enhance the quality of education?

The AIMS management always encourages the in-house faculty to upgrade the labs with modern equipment and ensure it will be demonstrated and practised during the lab sessions. Apart from this, our faculty and students will be exposed by visiting reputed hotels like Hotel Tours organized by the college. We at AIMS follow a 1:15 teacher-to-student ratio to have more focus on students and ensure quality education is given to every individual with close mentorship. Our in-house library has a huge collection of books to which the faculty has access to enhance their knowledge and be divergent.

What initiatives or strategies has your institution adopted to provide students with a competitive edge in the job market and help them placements?

“Practice Makes a Man Perfect” is what we believe, initiate and execute in our college. How did you train yourself and the faculty to deliver this program to the students?

Learning is a routine activity that should be a continuous process for a teacher. One should do their homework every day before giving their lecture to their students. We ensure that a decent collection of books are kept available for our faculty. As a part of their preparation, every day they spend some valuable time at the library. Weekly meetings will be conducted and we will review the performance of every faculty member, which will make them more focused in delivering the classes. We strictly follow the guidelines of the university and attend the meetings conducted by the university. On the other hand, we visit hotels regularly to update ourselves and learn about the new happenings in the industry.

How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program?

15 years of work experience in the hotel industry have helped me build a strong and wide network of hotel professionals all over India. We very often invite hotel professionals to give guest lectures and talks. Whenever we conduct any event on our campus, we invite them to witness the performances of our students. We conduct campus interviews every year and invite reputed hotels to place our students.

What do you find most difficult about being a director?

After COVID, it has become a nightmare for every hotel management college in India. At this point in time, every director feels the pain of difficulty in getting a good number of admissions. Without decent strength, it is very difficult to maintain standards and deliver the best of the best for the students studying in any college. To overcome this challenge, the industry should focus more on reducing the high working hours, having proper timings and paying better salaries, which would encourage students to choose the course and dream of building a career in this challenging hospitality industry.

Any insights or advice that you would like to give to the current youth or the aspiring students?

The hotel industry is a glamorous industry. Anyone who has passion and dream for building a career in the hospitality sector has to stay focused during their course of study to lay a strong foundation. Every student should commit to attend classes regularly and taking part in the practical sessions and competitions. It is mandatory for every student to complete their internships successfully, which gives them real-time exposure and helps them become more seasoned.

In your opinion, what is the most significant challenge that educators face today and how do you think they can overcome it?

Lack of public awareness about the hotel management courses is the main challenge. For this, the government should encourage students by recruiting qualified professionals in the tourism departments and government-related food sectors to encourage aspiring students. Every university should include hotel management course as part of their in-house courses, which could raise awareness about the course in every part of the country. The COVID pandemic has pulled the hospitality sector into a slump and now I feel it has gained back its glory. Every hotel is doing good business, but there is a lot of scarcity in finding qualified professionals. We must now focus and regain the confidence of the new aspirants. More professionalism should be inculcated with changes in working hours, untimed shifts, proper weekly offs and low salaries, which are forcing budding students to disconnect from the hotel industry. As of now, some of the reputed hotels are encouraging by addressing all these challenges and every hotel should start reframing their rules and regulations to encourage and gain the confidence of the new budding hospitality students to find a great career in this sector and regulations to encourage and gain confidence of the new budding hospitality students to find a great career in this hospitality sector.
