Being a HOD at CDSH, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?
To educate them in depth regarding the subject, both theoretical and practical and to make the subject easy and understandable for students. Guide students to solve exam questions methodologically and give students enough hands-on training on the patients. Lastly, to make my subject interesting.
How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?
By discussing their problems and issues regarding the subject and department, and organizing regular department meetings and interactions with both staff and students. Also, by taking opinions from staff in department activities and work programs.
What are the best practices offered by the Institute to the students, which help them gain the necessary skills?
By giving incentives to students and interns, like the Best Performer award for each month, giving them certificates and trophies and acknowledging them and their work in college, and giving opportunities to students to assist staff in surgeries and planning treatment for patients to give them added clinical experience. Also, by giving them seminars on advanced topics and discussing and teaching them the latest in the subject, and by guiding them to participate in various conferences, and to present seminars.
How do you help your students cope with the competition being so high in the outside world?
Competition will always be there, but I tell them there is always a place on the top. To be a master of your subject, I give them insight into practical knowledge and clinical experience, motivate them in their work, and make them aware of the latest developments in dentistry.
