Ms. Chella Jyothirmayi is the HOD (ECE) at the Hindu College of Engineering & Technology. She is a distinguished academician and able administrator with more than 06 years of experience. She has grown from the ranks right here in the institute, starting his teaching career as a Lecturer in the year 2017. She obtained her master's from St. Mary’s Women’s Engineering College. She has published 04 research papers in various reputed National and International journals, besides a couple of patents to his credit. In her impressive teaching and administrative career, she has consistently promoted innovative teaching practices and imaginative thinking.

Being a HEAD OF DEPARTMENT of HINDU COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Some of the major responsibilities being the HOD of the Hindu College of Engineering & Technology include seeking advice and sanction from the principal for the implementation of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Assigning duties to teaching and non-teaching staff of the Department. Looking after the matter related to R&D and Research Publications is also my responsibility. Arranging for guest lectures/extension lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences, etc. and ensuring quality, maintenance and cleanliness of the department are some of my roles and responsibilities toward the students. 


How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

To establish healthy relations with the students, one must take care of them and hold them with gentle and utmost care. As a teacher, one should develop an interest in their student’s interest and should spend one-on-one time with them. As far as faculty is concerned, one should give respect to all the faculty members and should be open to accepting new ideas and suggestions coming from different members of the faculty. 


How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

We provide hands-on Learning, real-world applications, industrial visits and game-based learning to ensure a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented.


What are the best practices offered by the department to the students that help them gain the necessary skills? 

We encourage student-faculty interaction and early exposure to career planning. We believe in inculcating a success-oriented mindset within our students. We treat our students with respect and empathy. We respect their interests and help them to grow in their respective fields.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it get updated to make it befitting for the students? 

Firstly, we identify the resources and then give materials to the students. We are also dedicated to finding out the student needs before designing the curriculum. After that, we explore the curricular questions and re-examine the links between goals and course design. At last, we set instructional outcomes.


What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department or How does your department prepare students for Higher education?

Pursuing higher education may be a better option if you want to work in Research. Placement might be the best option if you want to start working and gain industry experience. Based on their interest and their financial aspects we guide students for higher education / Placement.


How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

We offer them grooming sessions for positive personality development and mental toughness. We plug them into new technologies and introduce them to new competitions. Competition drives students to push themselves beyond their comfort zone and take risks to succeed. All these risks will boost their self-confidence.


Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

Yes, we do have extracurricular activities/ programs that include Cultural Programs, Sports, Technical fests, Leadership Qualities, Time Management and problem-solving creativity to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges. 


When you came to the college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same? 

To offer affordable quality education while equipping students with knowledge and skills in their chosen streams and providing opportunities for them to realize their full potential and thus shaping them into future entrepreneurs and good human beings with ethical values was my sole vision when I came to this college. 


How does the department/ college/University enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards? 

The strong impact of technological advancement on the field of education, its systems and methods, the advancement in developing training programs in various areas of teaching and learning and a need for faculty members to be updated on scientific developments to help improve teaching quality are some of the measures taken by the college to enhance the skills of the faculty.

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students? 

We help students to learn extra courses which helps them to improve practically. We believe in peer teaching and creating a responsive mindset for students.


What do you see as the department’s/ college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

Our greatest strengths are a good teaching and learning environment and well-equipped labs. We are always open to learning new things and new experiences. We believe in being honest. We have the ability to accept and learn from mistakes. 


What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead? 

I want the students to seek internship opportunities. Fix your weakness and use your strength. Every individual should plan their career in their interest field. Students should maintain consistency in their learning patterns and must stay up to date with new technologies or innovations. At last, I would like to say be respectful to everyone.
