Dr. V. Bindhu is a Professor and Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, with a specialization in biomedical applications. She has 21 years of experience in the field and has published extensively in international and national journals, conferences, books, and chapters. She is an active member of professional bodies such as ISTE, IIE, and IRA and has served as a publication editor and reviewer for Springer. Dr. Bindhu has also organized 50 workshops, seminars, and conferences and attended 40 more. Overall, her contributions to the field are significant and noteworthy.

Being a HOD of the ECE Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

The prime role of the Head of the Department is to provide strong academic leadership and Maintain the general discipline of the students and staff of the department. To manage and motivate all departmental staff to enable the students to receive skilled education in the subject in a positive, encouraging, and effective working environment. Appoint Class committees, Class Advisors, Faculty Advisors, etc. for the department and arrange to make teaching and learning student-centric. · Arrange to pass the semester-end examination results by the Class committee; · Organize seminars, conferences, symposiums, workshops, and training programs on topics of relevance and importance to the department with financial support from external agencies.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

A teacher's listening ability is essential for forming healthy relationships with students and co-workers. It can be hard to make small talk with students, but it helps in overcoming educational barriers. A healthy relationship depends on the actions of the teacher. There are different types of students in every class. However, while teaching, he or she must respond to every student equally. Show acceptance and value for each student. Equity means providing each student with the tools and support they need to be successful. Consider gender, culture, ethnicity, neurodivergence, socio-economic status, and sexual orientation because not everyone needs the same thing, but everyone needs something. Give choices for how students will learn or demonstrate that learning.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

To bring a Practical approach to subjects and make them industry-oriented, we start by motivating students to participate in Project and design contests, which will enhance their practical-oriented knowledge. We encourage students to participate in international-level industry-oriented design challenges like the Smart India Hackathon and the Texas Instruments India Innovation Design Challenge, which will enhance their knowledge based on industrial needs. We also give more practical exposure to industry-oriented subjects by Signing MoUs with leading industries and Organizing value-added Courses and internships. The Students can gain knowledge about electronics and communication when they are getting into this department, but they should be more confident and concentrate on the Academic and Practical work. They should improve their practical knowledge by doing more design and research work. They should have the dream of finding innovative products in their field that are useful for our society and nation.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

The training and placement cell is fundamental for any student to get into college. The placement cell makes them industry-ready, making every student's dreams of getting placed at reputed firms come true. Keeping the dreams and aspirations of students in mind, training primarily undergraduate students is crucial to make them industry-ready. Higher education courses are also of equal importance as well. Thus, the students are encouraged to write a GATE exam to get the M.E. and M.S. courses with high-grade marks.

How do the departments enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards?

Due to globalization, faculties are consistently encouraged to attend national and international conferences, symposiums, workshops, and seminars. The University continuously organizes Faculty Development Programs (FDP), Refresher Courses (NPTEL), Short Term Programs (STP), and Orientation Courses to enhance faculty skills.

The Students can gain knowledge about Electronics and Communication when they get into this department, but they should be more confident and concentrate on the Academic and Practical work.
