What is your philosophy of leadership?
I firmly believe that a leader is the one who guides a team or runs an organization with appropriate planning, decision-making and execution. Also, a leader is loved and admired to the fullest whereas a boss is always feared. And the most important trait of a leader is that he/she not only congratulates the team on their success but accepts the failure with a wide smile for mistakes which others have made.
And as the Chairman of Global Institute of Technology and Management and Gurugram Global College of Pharmacy, I work to foster an environment where everyone may continue to express their creativity because I believe in transformational leadership as it plays a significant contribution in transforming the individual into future leaders by exposing their skills and personality so that they can perform their task in well organized manner. And for me, working with and for the staff and students are the cornerstone of my leadership philosophy and my prime responsibility is to lead and inspire my team.
How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?
The curriculum of our college is capable enough to transform our students into future technocrats, industry leaders and managers. And we regularly update the curriculum in accordance with the latest developments, trends and requirements of the industrial world. Apart from this, we have adopted multiple approaches to teach our students and the list includes rigorous experiments, practical, industrial visits, experts’ talks, presentation sessions, project works, interactive classes, conferences and seminars. Apart from this, we regularly encourage our students to do hands-on training to ensure they remain well versed with required practical and theoretical knowledge. Last but not the least, we have established language labs and innovation labs and have made it mandatory for students to do internships in each semester.
How is GITM more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
India is an amazingly diverse country with people belonging to different races, culture, religion and language. At GITM and GGCP we cherish the diversity of students that we have with us and also respect every student equally by providing them a welcoming learning environment. And as and when possible, we try to make our lessons as diverse as possible so that students can enjoy the learning process. Being the Chairman, what are your roles and responsibilities for the institution and students?
As the Chairman of GITM and GGCP, my prime responsibility is to ensure the growth of our institution and students. And I also need to supervise the development, implementation and monitoring of the proper functioning of academic and administrative staff in terms of their regularity, discipline and conduct. Because our main aim is to create cordial relations with staff, students, their parents and with those who are connected by the institution. Apart from all this, facilitating a strong teaching-learning environment in college, developing strong industry support for collaborative learning opportunities and ensuring everyone follows the rules and regulations of the institution also comes under the scope of my responsibilities.
What do you think should be the college’s top priority over the next 10 years?
I personally want to see GITM and GGCP achieve all possible kinds of progress and we have even developed a 5-year strategic action plan with all the required milestones we have to achieve at the end of each year and these milestones are nothing but to get the accreditation from NBA and NIRF. In addition to this, we are planning to introduce more new courses and branches as per students requirements. Last but not the least, our goal for upcoming years is to establish a Research Center for Postgraduate and Doctoral student's for promoting the research activities in college.
What would you like people to know about your institute that makes it unique in comparison to others?
Our Global Institute has established itself as a center of excellence in the field of academics and we at GITM and GGCP train our students in order to help them to take an interdisciplinary and global perspective in life. We have also collaborated with numerous renowned national and international academic institutions and industries to ensure best quality practical exposure and professional skills for our young minds. Last but not the least, we have a Training and Internship Cell in college which provides pre-internship and soft skill training to those who want to take a job immediately after finishing their courses and competitive exams coaching to those who want to crack GATE/CAT/GRE or NET and our college is thriving hard to bring forth interest in the field of research and development.
What are some of the greatest strengths of your college?
Our college has an impressive image in the surrounding areas of Gurugram. And we at GITM and GGCP regularly update our teaching methodologies, have relevant, skill oriented and employment driven courses for students along with an amazing team of well qualified faculty members. Apart from this, we have disciplined students, kind and supportive patrons, student's parents and the public followed by a conductive learning environment and infrastructure which we have established to deliver best quality education to students. And I firmly believe that all these factors together make us strong and resilient.
What biggest challenges are there in front of higher education institutions and your college at present?
The biggest challenge in front of higher education institutions and our college is to make students competent and adaptable as per industry requirements, because nowadays technology is changing at a rapid pace and students need to stay up-to-date all the time with required practical knowledge. Basically we have to bridge the gaps between students' skills and expectations of the industrial world. In addition to this, another challenge which we are facing at present is that students are not showing interest in research work and we find minimal involvement from their side in innovative research work, so encouraging them to do research projects is a struggle for us.
Any valuable suggestions which you would like to give to the current youths?
Youths are the foundation of our nation, hence they need to have the best moral, social and human values in them and we as an educational institution should prepare today’s youth for tomorrow’s world. And the advice which I want to share with all the youths out there is to develop multiple skills in accordance with new demands of social and economic landscape because in today's time, you have unlimited information and memorizing everything is neither possible nor worthy. So be selective in what you consume and give back to the society as a responsible citizen.
