Mr. Sanilkumar P S is a HOD of the English Department in the De Paul Institute of Science and Technology, Ernakulam. He did M A in Language and Literature from Mahatma Gandhi University, attained UGC NET and a Ph.D Scholar. “Organize Faculty Development Programmes, seminars and workshops for faculties on campus”

A good teacher would be a good student who trains himself sensing the drift of demanding situations. I always take up the challenges and update myself. We conduct regular Faculty Development Programmes internally and outside. Our campus develops a culture of researching and publishing for the benefit of students. We conduct a good number of seminars and workshops beneficial to both faculty and students.Every faculty member plans their lessons at the outset of every semester. The feedback system by the students helps to cater the content of the programme with ensured feasibility.


What challenges did you face while inculcating this programme in the curriculum?

“To establish convincing connectivity, facilities like recording stations, and shooting floors are the greatest challenges for campus”

The triple main programme where the stress is given to equal footing of Literature and Journalism. We need to arrange faculty from both the domains. Our campus also has a fully-fledged Journalism department. It assists us to get the service of the faculty with industry experience and academic brilliance. Another challenge is facilities like recording stations, and shooting floors in the BA English programme are not easy to provide. We give equal importance to three mains including Literature, Communication and Journalism and establishment of connectivity is a challenge in comparison with the conventional B A. English. Those students who came out from strong academic achievements turned out to be natural ambassadors. 


What project types of students are working on through the programme?

“Projects related to print or visual media and connected with MOOC courses”

One of the projects students take in programmes is one-month job training either in print or visual media. They get hands-on experience with the latest developments in the industry. Students get placement offers from the institution where they do their job training. Apart from that, they can do some projects in connection with MOOC courses offered by the University like organic farming. Several parts in programmes like Environmental Studies and Development Communication are also given as project work. 


What are the career options after pursuing this course?

“Jobs as content writer, public relations, and front office are available to pupils”

Students can opt for higher studies after completion of a B A program. They get various chances in media, jobs as content writers, public relations, and front office. If students want to pursue higher studies, they can opt for various programmes for their post-graduation in the area of Literature, Comparative Literature, Journalism, Management, Education, Law, Social Work etc. They also choose a teaching career by joining the B.Ed programme. What is your vision for De Paul Institute of Science and Technology?

“To support the students intellectually, and transform them from learners to achievers”

I had inculcated the high value system when I joined as a full time teacher at campus. The high value system maintained by the Institution attracted me very much. High intellectual culture and academic ambience is an asset of campus. Teaching is always learning something new and I should grow along with the institution. Our vision is to support the students intellectually and enjoy doing my role as a mentor for transforming students from learners to achievers. I am always involved in intellectual and academic activities to equip myself as a teacher. I spend time on researching and happily learn new things from colleagues.
