What are the best practices in the course you’re offering?
In our institute, we ensure that students understand everything we teach and gain practical knowledge too. We ensure that students have a good understanding of fundamental principles in Physics, Maths and Mechanics. Apart from theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge is also valuable, so we try to keep our students up to date with the latest technologies and inventions. Students need to participate in lab experiments, workshops, and seminars so that they can gain practical knowledge. Mechanical engineering also involves working with machines so we prioritise safety for our students. We help our students with their projects by helping them select the right material for their projects so that they can achieve success. We organise industrial visits and also make students attend industry events.
What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.?
Mechanical engineering is an emerging field that includes a wide variety of subjects like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics etc. Apart from bookish knowledge, practical knowledge is highly emphasised at our institute. We have well-equipped laboratories, projects, internship programs, and industrial visits, and we organise seminars and conferences so that our students can apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. We have highly qualified and experienced faculty members who have expertise in industry knowledge and provide valuable insights to our students. Our department has strong ties with industries through which students can get a chance for internships. Design centric projects help students apply engineering principles to solve practical problems.
How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
Mechanical engineering is an emerging field that involves many disciplines. We regularly review and update our syllabus according to the latest emerging trends and technologies. Mechanical engineering requires a high degree of practical knowledge. We have well-equipped laboratories and design projects, and we have regular industrial visits as well. We also offer robotics, and computer science courses, which prepare our students for cross-functional roles in the future. We have collaborated with many industries and professionals and organize workshops, conferences, and seminars for the development of the students so that they can build their career paths. We also organise workshops that promote the skills of the students that are required by the industries, like leadership, communication, team spirit, and adaptability. We always ensure that our students are proficient in using modern technologies.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?
I believe that teamwork is very important for achieving goals in any institution. When everybody works as a team, it becomes easier to achieve the goals. To deliver this program to the students in the best possible way, I take many proactive steps, such as holding meetings with all the faculty members to plan how to deliver classes and take feedback. I always try to attend all relevant seminars, workshops, and conferences so that I can keep myself updated on the latest advancements in the field. Thereafter, I use this knowledge to train my faculty members so that they can deliver updated knowledge to the students. Our faculty members not only impart bookish knowledge to the students but also try to engage them in activities like group projects, case studies and laboratory experiments where they can practise their learned knowledge. We also conduct a program in which we reward our faculty members for their valuable contributions to the teachings and professional development so that they can remain motivated. From time to time, we take feedback from the students and faculty members so that if there are any changes to be made, we can implement them.
How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program?
We have built strong industry connections for our programme by implementing various initiatives. We have collaborations with several companies where students can get a chance to complete internships with them. This programme will help students learn about the real world and also give them exposure to how the industry works. We also have sessions in which we invite industry professionals to deliver guest lectures and organise workshops and seminars for the students. We also organise industrial visits to help students understand what companies do. There are events where the faculty and students can show their research projects and get recognition for their work.
What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?
Curriculum framing is not an easy task; it requires a high level of understanding of the industry and research work. Creating a curriculum that has all the up-to-date topics of mechanical engineering is a very time-consuming task and requires input from various people. Another challenge for us is having highly qualified and experienced faculty members with knowledge of the industry. To address these challenges, we do continuous monitoring to keep our curriculum relevant to the emerging trends of industries and technology. We also find it challenging to retain students and attract students to our program due to the high competition among similar institutes. We need to establish collaborations with reputed industries so that our students can have internship projects. Getting research opportunities for both students and teachers is also challenging.
What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?
In the mechanical engineering programme, students work on multiple projects at the same time. Currently, we are working on BAJA SAE 2024, where BAJA stands for Baja All-Terrain Vehicle." It is an intercollegiate competition organised by the Society of Automobile. Our students work on different kinds of projects, like research projects, manufacturing projects, energy projects, automotive projects, and robotic projects. Design projects include vehicles, consumer products, and machinery. Research projects include topics in mechanical engineering such as thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. Our manufacturing projects include quality control and manufacturing processes. In projects related to energy, students work on projects targeting renewable energy and sustainable design.
What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?
If a student is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, then it can open a wide range of career options for them. In mechanical engineering, a student can have competitive salaries. Mechanical engineering is an emerging field and mechanical engineers are in high demand at present. Mechanical engineering is all about creativity and innovation. It has various career options and one can work as a mechanical engineer, product design engineer, manufacturing engineer, aerospace space engineer, biomedical engineer, energy engineer, robotics engineer, or project manager.
