Dr. Uma Maheshwari is a Professor and the Head of the Department of Research at Dr. SNS Rajalakshmi College of Arts and Science. She holds multiple degrees including a BA in Corporate Secretaryship, MBA in HRM, MGDCA, M.Phil in Entrepreneurship, MBA in Systems and a PhD in Management. Her specialization subjects are Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Systems and Organisational Behaviour among others.

Dr. Uma has had 24 individuals who have either completed their PhDs or are completing it under her guidance. She has published ten books and book chapters on her area of specialisation and has five patents filed under her name. Moreover, she has published two papers in reputed international and national journals.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next ten years?

The roadmap for the college over ten years is phased into two. In the first phase, the college thrives to achieve star status and capture a rank among the top 50 colleges in India by NIRF. In the next phase, the college wants to become a fulfilled university recognized by UGC. We are planning and concentrating on achieving both targets within the timeframe.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are? 

For the college, I wish to bring academic excellence and professionalism to teach the basic theoretical concepts as well as expose the students to skilling, reskilling and upskilling to become corporate-ready. For the student, we wish to impart broad based diversified at the same time highly focused student-centric education with values so that they will excel in entrepreneurship, employment and higher students

When you first came to Dr SNS Rajalakshmi College of Arts and Science, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

When I first arrived at Dr. SNS Rajalakshmi College of Arts & Science (Autonomous), the college's vision was to become a center of academic excellence, ensuring continuous enhancement of quality higher education with accessibility, equity, and equanimity. However, over time, the vision has evolved and adapted to the changing needs of the students and the community.

What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

Our college is recognised as a preeminent institution offering state-of-the-art courses in Commerce, Computer Science, and Management streams with a strong emphasis on employability. Interestingly, the college has received a ranking of 89th by NIRF and is considered one of the top two colleges in the Coimbatore district by several prestigious organisations. This is a testament to the college's unwavering commitment to academic excellence and its ability to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their chosen fields.

Regular meetings and discussions with board members facilitate a robust collaboration between academia and industry, enabling us to align our curriculum and programs with the latest trends and developments in the field. By engaging with industry leaders, we continue to foster a culture of excellence and innovation, driving our collective pursuit of academic and professional success.

To achieve success in today's competitive world, it is crucial to imbibe the values of education into our lifestyle and behaviour. We must constantly strive to learn and grow, feeding ourselves with knowledge and reflecting it in our daily lives. Hard work, dedication, and a thirst for knowledge are the key ingredients to achieving success in any field.
