What Students Say
Likes
- It was the unique and interdisciplinary subject I got to chose and TU Dresden being one of the best when it comes to Computer Science oriented subjects. I wanted to shift to more computational side of things in Biology/Chemistry from just pure experimental stuff and TU Dresden provided me a perfect opportunity to do so.
- An ample amount of opportunities and the freedom to steer your education in the direction you want. Professors are supportive and very much approachable for anything you would need. A huge international crowd where you feel at home away from home but mostly for me, it is about the freedom I have with regards to everything that is selecting courses, doing projects in any direction I want to and so on and so forth.
Dislikes
- There is not much to be disliked about the university. Maybe there should be a standardisation of the difficulty level of subjects and the exams because each subject can feel very different in terms of difficulty.
Required Exams for Admission
The defining experience of my life and the time where I think I have grown the most. I have experienced an exponential growth academically and professionally. And personally, being in a new country, working and managing everything on your own makes you grow on a personal level as well equally. Nothing is easy, but it surely is rewarding.
Course Curriculum
The curriculum gets updated every semester and everything I have studied, I have found direct relevance in my projects and Practical opportunities. The academics are rigorous in any Public university in Germany, TU Dresden being no exception, perhaps even more rigorous. But that is exactly what makes you grow as a person, both personally and academically. The courses are very fundamental and mathematical oriented, so the foundations are very strong and implementing them for the projects/thesis is that much easier then.
Faculty
I don’t have the exact figure, the figure must be there in the website of the university. The professors are very approachable and have a very friendly demeanour and they are always happy to discuss things. My work as a research assistant at Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf has had a profound impact on me and my supervisor is a highly knowledgeable person with whom I learn everyday whenever I talk to him regarding work and what things can be done.
Campus Life
Campus life is fairly vibrant with different organisations organizing various events throughout the year. Hence you would never be short of options. There are a ton of options for enrolling for sports, all the information available on the website. Like easily more than 100 types of sports. Wifi as high speed and is accessible throughout the campus and the library.
Placement
There are an ample amount of opportunities. The career services always helps out, companies visit to give talks. This is a thing I believe no one person will have the same answer. It wildly varies with the chosen field, but in my field there are more than enough opportunities available both in industry and academia.
Accommodation
The student dorms are maintained by the studentenwerk Dresden and generally the student dorms are available, but maybe now its tougher to get a dorm allocated as there’s a housing crisis in general in Europe and also an after effect of the Russia - Ukraine war. Different dorms have very different flavours and facilities but all in all, every dorm is clean and well maintained.
Exams
My TOEFL score was 108/120. Apart from that, it was just my transcripts and other documents. Yes I had to include them. I believe that the CV and LOR is a very personal document and they should clearly indicate your motivation and the reasons why you chose this masters program, what experiences ( subjects , labs, internships, bachelors thesis ) you have that makes you suitable for the program, how do you plan to leverage the facilities ( curriculum, opportunities, career services, etc. ) provided by the university to enhance your career and what are your short term and long term goals. Your CV should mention the relevant points. Basically the LOR should bring a personal touch ( the reasoning ) behind the things that are there on your CV.
Fees
There is no tuition fees in German public universities. We pay a semester contribution fee which entitles us free public transport. For us its 304 euros ( its a round figure, not exact ) per semester.
