LFAT 2026: Result Out, Counselling Expected July, Cutoff and Seat Allotment

LFAT 2026 (Law Faculty Admission Test), also called AU LAT (Allahabad University Law Admission Test), is a university-level law entrance exam conducted by the University of Allahabad for admission to the 3-year LLB (Hons.) programme at its Faculty of Law and affiliated colleges in Prayagraj. The LFAT 2026 exam was held on June 17, 2026, and the result was declared on June 29, 2026, at allduniv.ac.in. The counselling process is now expected to begin in the second or third week of July 2026.

• Counselling Registration: LFAT 2026 counselling registration is expected to open in the second or third week of July 2026. In 2025, Round 1 registration started on July 23 — about four weeks after the result was declared on June 26, 2025.
• Round 1 Seat Allotment: The first seat allotment list is expected by late July 2026. In 2025, Round 2 registration ran from July 26–28 and Round 3 was held August 17–19, 2025.
• Cutoff: LFAT 2026 category-wise cutoff will be published with the counselling merit list. In 2025, Round 1 closing cutoffs were 170 marks (General), 161.5 (OBC), 160 (SC), and 116 (ST) out of 300.
• Documents for Counselling: Candidates must carry their LFAT 2026 admit card, result scorecard, Bachelor’s degree marksheets, category certificates, migration certificate, and a valid photo ID for in-person document verification.

What is LFAT 2026?

LFAT stands for Law Faculty Admission Test. It is also widely called AU LAT — Allahabad University Law Admission Test. The University of Allahabad conducts this exam every year for admission to the 3-year LLB (Hons.) programme at its Faculty of Law and two affiliated law colleges in Prayagraj. The university is one of India’s oldest central universities, and its Faculty of Law has produced many eminent lawyers, judges, and senior advocates over the decades.

LFAT 2026 was held on June 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:10 PM in offline (pen-and-paper, OMR-based) mode. The result was declared on June 29, 2026. Around 10,000–12,000 candidates appear for the exam each year, competing for approximately 975 LLB seats across three colleges. The exam has three sections — Language Comprehension, General Awareness and Current Affairs, and Reasoning with Legal Aptitude — each carrying 50 questions worth 100 marks.

You should note that the University of Allahabad also offers a 5-year integrated BA LLB (Hons.) programme. Admission to that programme now happens through CUET UG scores and not through LFAT. LFAT 2026 is specifically for the 3-year LLB programme only.

LFAT 2026 Important Dates

LFAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria

You must meet all the LFAT eligibility conditions set by the University of Allahabad and the Bar Council of India (BCI). If any condition is not met, your candidature will be cancelled even if you appeared for the exam and scored well.

• Educational Qualification: You must have a Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a BCI-recognised university or institution. Arts, Science, and Commerce graduates are all eligible.
• Final-Year Students: If you are in your final year of graduation, you can still appear in LFAT. You must submit your final degree certificate at the time of document verification during counselling.
• Minimum Marks in Graduation: General and EWS candidates need at least 45% aggregate marks. OBC candidates need 42%. SC and ST candidates need 40%.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals are eligible.
• Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for admission to the 3-year LLB programme through LFAT, in line with BCI guidelines and the Supreme Court’s direction removing the age cap for LLB admissions.

Final-year graduation students are eligible to appear in LFAT. If you get admission, you must submit your final degree and marksheets before or at the time of verification. A provisional certificate will be accepted at most colleges until the degree is issued.

LFAT Application Process and Fees

The LFAT 2026 application window opened on May 5, 2026 and closed on May 28, 2026. Applications for 2026 are now closed. If you are planning to apply for LFAT 2027, start following allduniv.ac.in from April 2027 onwards as the notification usually comes in April or early May.

How to Apply for LFAT (Process for Future Reference)

• Step 1 – Register: Visit allduniv.ac.in and click on the LFAT/AU LAT registration link. Create an account with your email ID, mobile number, and Aadhaar number.
• Step 2 – Fill the Application Form: Enter your personal details, educational qualifications, category, and contact information. Select LLB (3-year) as your programme.
• Step 3 – Upload Photo: Upload a recent passport-size photograph in the format and size specified by the university (usually JPEG, under 50 KB).
• Step 4 – Pay the Fee: Pay the application fee online using net banking, credit card, debit card, or UPI. The fee is non-refundable.
• Step 5 – Submit and Save: Submit the form, download the confirmation page, and save your application number. You will need it for downloading the admit card and result.

The LFAT 2026 application window is now closed. No fresh applications are accepted at this stage. If you missed the deadline for 2026, you will need to wait for the LFAT 2027 notification, expected around April–May 2027.

LFAT 2026 Syllabus

The University of Allahabad does not release an official LFAT syllabus PDF. However, based on the three-section structure and previous exam patterns, you can prepare using the topics below. Covering these areas thoroughly will give you a strong chance of scoring above the cutoff.

Section I: Language Comprehension (English and Hindi)

English (25 Questions):

• Reading comprehension passages — questions on main idea, inference, and vocabulary in context
• Grammar — error spotting, sentence correction, subject-verb agreement
• Vocabulary — synonyms, antonyms, idioms, and one-word substitutions
• Sentence rearrangement and fill-in-the-blanks

Hindi (25 Questions):

• Hindi reading comprehension passages
• Hindi grammar — sandhi, karak, samas, ras, chhand
• Hindi vocabulary — paryayvachi, vilom shabd, muhavare, and lokoktiyan
• Sentence formation and correct usage

Section II: General Awareness and Current Affairs

• Current national and international events from the last 12 months
• Indian polity — Constitution, fundamental rights, directive principles, amendments

• Indian economy, budget highlights, and government schemes

Section III: Reasoning, Mental Ability, and Legal Aptitude

Reasoning and Mental Ability (25 Questions):

• Number series, letter series, and pattern recognition
• Blood relations, coding-decoding, and direction-based problems
• Syllogisms, logical deductions, and analogies
• Seating arrangements and circular arrangements
• Statement and assumption, statement and conclusion

Legal Aptitude (25 Questions):

• Basic principles of torts, contracts, and criminal law — applied to given fact situations
• Constitutional provisions — fundamental rights, Article 14, 19, 21
• Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) basics
• Legal maxims and Latin phrases used in the Indian legal system
• Court hierarchy and India’s judicial structure
• Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) basics

Legal aptitude questions do not require prior law knowledge. A legal principle is given in the question, and you must apply it to a fact situation to choose the right answer. These questions test your logical reasoning and reading ability, not memorised legal text.

Colleges Accepting LFAT Score

LFAT 2026 score is accepted by three colleges in Prayagraj for admission to the 3-year LLB programme. All three are affiliated with or part of the University of Allahabad and are recognised by the Bar Council of India. Seat allotment across these colleges is done through the common LFAT counselling process.

The Faculty of Law, University of Allahabad, is the most sought-after of the three because of its central university status, academic infrastructure, and access to the Allahabad High Court — one of India’s largest high courts, located in Prayagraj. The cutoff for the Faculty of Law is typically higher than for the other two colleges.

LFAT 2026 Seat Reservation

You should submit college preferences for all three colleges during counselling registration. If you do not get your first preference in Round 1, a seat at your second or third preference college may still be available. Candidates who fill only one or two preferences are at a disadvantage compared to those who fill all three.

How to Prepare for LFAT

LFAT is a moderately competitive exam. With a focused 2–3 month preparation plan covering all three sections, you can score well above the cutoff. Since there is no negative marking, attempting every question — even with a guess — improves your chances. Below are section-wise tips and general strategies used by students who have cleared LFAT.

Section I: Language Comprehension

• Read one English newspaper every day to build reading speed, vocabulary, and comprehension ability. The Hindu, The Indian Express, or Hindustan Times work well.
• For Hindi, practise comprehension passages from standard Hindi textbooks and NCERT Hindi books (Class 10–12). This section is often underestimated but can be a scoring advantage for Hindi-medium students.
• Solve grammar exercises regularly — subject-verb agreement, error spotting, and sentence correction are common question types in LFAT.

Section II: General Awareness and Current Affairs

• Read a monthly current affairs digest (Lucent or GK Today) covering the last 6–12 months before the exam. LFAT covers events from the past year, so start early.
• Focus on constitutional news, judicial appointments, Supreme Court judgements, government schemes, and legal developments — these are most relevant given the law context of the exam.
• Maintain a short-note diary with important events. Revise this in the 2 weeks before the exam.

Section III: Reasoning, Mental Ability, and Legal Aptitude

• Use R.S. Aggarwal’s Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning for mental ability practice. This section improves quickly with daily practice of 10–15 questions.
• For Legal Aptitude, use the Universal Guide to CLAT and LLB Entrance Exams. Practice principle-fact application questions, as LFAT follows the same format as CLAT legal aptitude.
• Read common legal principles on torts (negligence, nuisance, strict liability), contracts (offer, acceptance, consideration), and criminal law (mens rea, actus reus) to handle legal aptitude confidently.

Recommended Books for LFAT Preparation

General Exam Strategy

• Attempt all 150 questions: With no negative marking, never leave a question blank. A random guess gives you a 25% chance of +2 marks with no risk of deduction.
• Manage time: You have roughly 48 seconds per question. Move quickly through General Awareness (you either know it or you do not). Give more time to reading comprehension and legal aptitude.
• Target score: Based on past cutoffs, aim for 175+ for General category and 165+ for OBC. Scoring 180+ is considered a very safe score for Round 1 at any of the three colleges.
• Practice full-length mock tests: Attempt at least 5–6 full-length timed mock tests before the exam. This builds stamina and helps you get used to the OMR format.
