Reservation of Quotas for IPMAT Counselling 2026

IIM Indore follows the Government of India reservation policy for all 150 domestic seats in the IPM 2026–31 batch. Reservation is applied both at the shortlisting stage (sectional cutoffs are category-specific) and at the final merit list stage (category-wise merit pools). PwD reservation is horizontal — it is applied within each vertical category, not as a separate pool.

OBC-NCL students must carry a Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued on or after April 1, 2026. A certificate issued before this date is invalid for IPMAT 2026 counselling and will result in reclassification to the General category. Similarly, EWS students must submit a certificate from a competent authority that is valid for financial year 2025–26.

PwD reservation is horizontal — a PwD student from the SC category competes within the SC-PwD sub-pool, not in a standalone PwD pool. Students who belong to both a reserved vertical category and PwD benefit from both simultaneously. The minimum qualifying degree of disability for claiming PwD benefit is 40%, certified by a government medical board or competent authority.

How to Apply for IPMAT Counselling 2026?

IPMAT 2026 counselling is managed entirely by IIM Indore through its admissions portal. There is no separate counselling registration fee. If you appear on the PI shortlist (released May 25, 2026), IIM Indore notifies you via your registered email and the portal with your WAT/PI schedule and reporting instructions. Step 1: Log In and Confirm PI Participation on the Portal

If you are among the 838 students on the IPMAT 2026 PI shortlist, log in to the official IIM Indore admissions portal at iimidr.ac.in using your IPM AT 2026 application number and password. Confirm your participation in the WAT and PI process within the deadline communicated in your call letter or email notification from IIM Indore. Students who do not confirm their PI participation within the stated deadline forfeit their shortlisted status — IIM Indore does not grant extensions. Once confirmation is complete, your WAT and PI slot details (date, time, format, and reporting instructions) will be visible on your portal dashboard.

Step 2: Upload Documents Online

After confirming PI participation, upload scanned copies of all required documents to the portal (see the Documents Required section for the complete list). Scan each document at high resolution — blurry, incomplete, or mismatched uploads are grounds for rejection at the verification stage. Critical documents at this step include your Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, identity proof, and category certificates where applicable. Category certificate upload is mandatory at this stage for all students claiming reserved category benefits — submitting a certificate at a later stage after the upload deadline is typically not permitted. Keep printed copies of all uploaded documents ready to carry to the PI venue as originals.

Step 3: Appear for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI)

The WAT and PI are the most consequential stages of IPMAT 2026 counselling — they together carry 35% of the final composite score. The WAT is a time-bound written exercise (typically a 300–500 word essay on a contemporary, analytical, or abstract topic) that tests your written communication, structure, and depth of thinking. The PI follows, conducted by a panel of IIM Indore faculty members who assess academic background, general awareness, critical thinking, communication skills, and motivation for joining the IPM programme. Both stages are mandatory for all PI shortlisted students — absence from either disqualifies you from the final merit list regardless of your IPM AT 2026 score. Step 4: Check the Final Merit List

After all WAT and PI sessions are complete, IIM Indore calculates a composite score for each shortlisted student using a 65:35 formula — 65% weight to the IPM AT 2026 score and 35% to WAT and PI performance. Students are ranked on this composite score, and the merit list is prepared in strict rank order. The final merit list for IPM 2026–31 is expected in the first week of August 2026. IIM Indore sends admission offer notifications to your registered email and the portal simultaneously. If you receive an offer, the acceptance window is typically very short — 48 to 72 hours in past cycles — so monitor your email and portal actively after the merit list date. Offers not accepted within the deadline are automatically forfeited and passed to the next ranked student.

Step 5: Accept the Admission Offer and Pay the Fee

If you receive an admission offer, log in to the portal and accept it within the stated deadline. Acceptance requires payment of the admission deposit (seat acceptance fee), which is credited toward your first-year tuition at IIM Indore. After payment confirmation, a provisional admission letter is issued. You must then report to IIM Indore’s campus on the specified enrolment date with all original documents for final verification and formal enrolment into the IPM 2026–31 batch. If you withdraw after accepting the offer and paying the deposit, the deposit is not refunded. Any tuition fee paid beyond the deposit may be partially refundable under UGC norms, depending on when you withdraw relative to the programme’s commencement date.

How to Evaluate and Choose Between Multiple IIM IPM Offers

Many students taking IPMAT 2026 (IPM AT) also register separately for other IIM IPM entrance processes — such as IPMAT Rohtak (conducted by IIM Rohtak) or JIPMAT (conducted by NTA for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya). If you receive admission offers from more than one IIM IPM programme, you must make a deliberate, time-bound choice. • List every offer received — institute name, programme details, annual fee, and the acceptance deadline.

• If you are on a waitlist for one institute and have a confirmed offer from another, do not reject the confirmed offer until the waitlist movement is clear.
• Never leave all your offers unresponded to while waiting for a preferred outcome — if every deadline passes without action, you end up with no seat at all.

Step 2: Compare Institutes on Key Parameters

• Brand and Placement Outcomes: IIM Indore’s IPM has the strongest placement record among all five-year IIM IPM programmes. Compare final placement reports from each institute’s most recent batch before deciding.
• Programme Fee: IIM Indore charges ₹5,00,000 per annum for Years 1–3 (inclusive of boarding, library, and internet); compare this with fee structures at IIM Rohtak, IIM Jammu, and IIM Bodh Gaya.
• Location and Infrastructure: Consider campus location, proximity to internship markets, hostel quality, and faculty strength.
• Programme Structure: At IIM Indore, the first three years are undergraduate-level; the final two years integrate into IIM Indore’s PGP (MBA) programme, which carries significant brand value.

Step 3: Accept Your Most Preferred Confirmed Offer First

• Accept your most preferred confirmed offer and pay the deposit before its deadline.
• If your top choice has a waitlist position (not a confirmed offer), accept the next best confirmed offer while waiting — this keeps you in the process without risking a no-seat outcome.
• Ensure the deposit payment is completed and acknowledged before the acceptance deadline, not just initiated.

Step 4: Withdraw from Other Processes Once Decided

• Once your choice is final, formally withdraw from all other offers or waitlists through their respective portals.
• Early withdrawal frees your seat for the next waitlisted student and may qualify you for a higher tuition refund under UGC norms.
• Always obtain written (email) confirmation of your withdrawal from each institute.

Step 5: Complete Enrolment at Your Chosen Institute

• After accepting your chosen offer, report to the selected IIM on the designated enrolment date with all original documents.
• Non-reporting on the enrolment date — without prior written communication to the institute — may lead to cancellation of your admission offer.

Documents Required for IPMAT Counselling 2026

You need documents at two distinct stages: (a) the online upload stage — when confirming PI participation on the portal after shortlisting; and (b) the in-person verification stage — at the WAT/PI venue and at the time of enrolment at IIM Indore. Carry originals of all documents together with at least two self-attested photocopies. IIM Indore retains one copy and returns the rest.

IPMAT Counselling Fees 2026

The financial commitment for IPMAT 2026 counselling and admission happens in two phases. Phase one — the application fee — was paid at the time of form submission and is already spent. Phase two — the admission deposit and programme fees — becomes payable in August 2026 when the offer letter is issued. Understanding both phases helps you plan finances before the seat acceptance deadline arrives.

Non-Refundable Fees

These charges are one-time and are not returned under any circumstances, regardless of whether you clear the PI, receive an offer, or choose to decline.

Refundable / Adjustable Fees

These fees are paid when accepting the admission offer (expected August 2026). The admission deposit is credited toward your first-year tuition when you join. If you withdraw, the refund depends on when you withdraw, per UGC/AICTE fee refund norms.

Note: The annual programme fee of ₹5,00,000 per annum for Years 1–3 is confirmed per IIM Indore’s 2026 prospectus. Institute-Wise IPM Seat Allotment for IPMAT 2026

IIM Indore’s IPMAT (IPM AT 2026) is the primary gateway to its own 150-seat IPM 2026–31 programme. Other IIM IPM programmes operate through separate entrance exams — IPMAT Rohtak (IIM Rohtak’s own test) and JIPMAT (NTA’s test for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya). Understanding which exam feeds which institute prevents students from applying to the wrong process.

IIM Indore’s IPM 2026–31 seat allotment is done in a single pass based on composite merit rank — the highest-ranked student gets priority, and the 150 domestic seats are filled strictly in merit order with no multiple rounds or upgrade-by-round mechanism. Students not offered a seat in the initial merit list may be placed on a waitlist, with offers issued as confirmed students decline or withdraw.

If you want to be considered for IIM Rohtak, IIM Jammu, or IIM Bodh Gaya IPM programmes, you must have applied separately to those processes through their own portals and entrance exams. Your IPM AT 2026 score alone does not enter you into those processes.

Upgrade vs Withdraw: Making the Right Decision After Receiving Your Offer

IPMAT counselling does not use a JoSAA-style multi-round upgrade system where your allotment changes automatically each round. At IIM Indore, seat "upgrades" happen informally: if a student ranked above you on the waitlist declines their offer, IIM Indore moves down the merit list and you may receive an offer in a subsequent notification. If you withdraw after accepting a seat and paying the admission deposit, the deposit itself is not refunded under any circumstance. The UGC refund protection applies only to tuition fee paid above and beyond the deposit, and only if withdrawal happens before or within 30 days of programme commencement.

• Registering and appearing for the WAT and PI is mandatory — your IPM AT 2026 score alone does not hold a seat for you. The composite score including WAT and PI determines your final merit rank and admission offer.
• Keep a personal calendar with every offer acceptance deadline — different IIM IPM programmes issue merit lists and set deadlines on different dates, and there is no unified tracker.
• There is no automatic "freeze" or "float" toggle in IPMAT counselling as in JoSAA. Every action — accept, decline, withdraw — must be done manually on the respective institute’s portal within the specified window.
