What is IMU CET 2026?

IMU CET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

IMU CET 2026 Admit Card

If you are preparing for IMU CET 2027, the strategies below will help you build a strong foundation and maximize your score. The 2026 cycle saw more than 1 lakh registrations — competition will likely be high in 2027 as well. Scoring above 140 to 150 out of 200 gives you a strong chance at a seat in popular courses at IMU campuses.

1. Build Your Base from NCERT Books

More than 70% of IMU CET questions come directly from NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks. Read NCERT thoroughly — do not skip in-text exercises, examples, or end-of-chapter questions. Students often underestimate how important this step is and jump straight to coaching material, which leads to gaps in fundamentals.

2. Prioritize Mathematics and Physics

Mathematics (50 questions) and Physics (50 questions) make up 50% of the UG paper. These sections need consistent daily practice. Focus on Calculus (derivatives, integrals), Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Coordinate Geometry, and Algebra. These topics appear every year with high weightage in IMU CET.

3. Master Time Management During the Exam

You have 3 hours for 200 questions — that works out to about 54 seconds per question. You cannot spend more than 1 minute on any single question. If you are stuck, skip and come back. Exam-day interface surprises slow you down — eliminate that risk in advance.

6. Be Strategic About Negative Marking

IMU CET has −0.25 per wrong answer. For every 4 wrong answers, you lose the marks of 1 correct one. If you can eliminate 2 of the 4 options, attempting the question is mathematically worthwhile. If you cannot eliminate any option, leave it unattempted. Avoid the trap of attempting every question just to feel like you have finished the paper.

7. Do Not Ignore English and General Aptitude

Together, English and General Aptitude carry 50 marks — one-fourth of the total UG score. Many aspirants under-prepare these sections because they focus only on PCM. With just 3 to 4 weeks of focused practice on grammar rules, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and basic reasoning, you can score well here and gain a competitive edge.

8. Stay Updated on Maritime Current Affairs

The General Aptitude section includes questions on maritime awareness — India’s major ports, shipping terms, IMO (International Maritime Organization) regulations, and recent developments in the shipping industry. Reading maritime news for 15 minutes a day in the 2 months before the exam is enough to cover this area comfortably.
