NBEMS has released the City Intimation Slip for the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination 2026 June session on June 17, 2026.
- The FMGE 2026 admit card will be released on June 24, 2026.
- In the December 2025 session, NBEMS released the hall ticket about 4-5 days before the exam.
- The FMGE 2026 is scheduled to be held on June 28, 2026 in CBT mode across 67 cities.
- FMGE 2026 result is expected to be released by 28 July, 2026.

What is FMGE 2026?
FMGE is a screening test conducted by the NBEMS for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who have completed their MBBS degree from a foreign medical university and wish to practice medicine in India.
- The exam is mandatory under the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act.
- Without clearing FMGE, a foreign medical graduate cannot register with the NMC or any State Medical Council (SMC) and therefore cannot practice as a doctor in India.
- FMGE is conducted twice a year, a June session and a December session, the exam is held in CBT mode.
- It has 300 multiple-choice questions carrying 300 marks, and you need to score at least 150 (50%) to qualify. There is no negative marking.
- More than 36,000 candidates appeared in the June 2025 session and more than 43,000 in the December 2025 session.
- The pass rate has historically been low, ranging between 10% and 31%.
Note: FMGE is a qualifying exam, not a ranking exam. There is no merit list or category-based cutoff. Scoring 150 out of 300 (50%) is the only threshold — every candidate who meets it receives the FMGE Pass Certificate.

FMGE does not have a sectional cutoff. You only need 150 or more in total to pass — your individual subject scores do not matter separately.
FMGE 2026 Syllabus
The FMGE 2026 syllabus covers the complete MBBS curriculum as prescribed by the National Medical Commission for Indian medical colleges. All 19 subjects in the exam are part of a standard MBBS programme. Since 2023, FMGE questions have shifted increasingly towards clinical application-based MCQs — scenario questions rather than pure memory-recall questions.
High-Priority Subjects for FMGE 2026
- General Medicine (33 marks): ECG interpretation, diabetes management, thyroid disorders, stroke, anaemia, hypertension, tuberculosis, respiratory diseases. Clinical case scenarios are increasing. ECG and imaging questions are common.
- General Surgery (32 marks): Shock types and management, hernia, thyroid swellings, breast cancer staging, burns — Rule of Nines, wound healing. Image-based questions (X-rays, CT scans) are regularly tested.
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology (30 marks): Antenatal care (ANC) protocols, contraception methods, labour management, high-risk pregnancy, infertility, gynaecological cancers.
- Community Medicine / PSM (30 marks): Epidemiological study designs, biostatistics (sensitivity, specificity, PPV/NPV), national health programmes, vaccine schedules, nutritional deficiencies. This is among the most predictable and scoring subjects in FMGE.
- Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology (15 marks each): These three subjects together carry 45 marks. They are relatively straightforward compared to the major clinical subjects and can be scored well with focused preparation.
Pre-clinical Subject Focus Areas
- Anatomy (17 marks): Brachial plexus and nerve lesion applied anatomy, cranial nerves and foramina, applied anatomy of organs, and embryology. Clinical correlation questions are increasing.
- Physiology (17 marks): Renal clearance, acid-base balance, ECG and cardiac cycle interpretation, respiratory physiology, nerve and muscle physiology.
- Biochemistry (17 marks): Enzyme kinetics, metabolic pathways (glycolysis, TCA cycle), vitamins and mineral deficiencies, genetic disorders, lipid metabolism, hormones.
- Pharmacology (13 marks): Autonomic pharmacology, antibiotic mechanisms and resistance, anticancer drugs, drug side effects and contraindications, drug interactions. High-yield for FMGE.
- Pathology (13 marks): Neoplasia and tumour markers, haematological disorders, inflammation, wound healing mechanisms, histopathology of common tumours.
- Microbiology (13 marks): Bacteria associated with specific clinical syndromes, staining techniques, viral diseases and vaccines, opportunistic infections.
- Forensic Medicine (10 marks): Medico-legal aspects of clinical practice, cause and manner of death, poisons and toxicology, examination of injuries and wounds.
The complete subject-wise syllabus is available in the FMGE Information Bulletin on natboard.edu.in.
FMGE 2026 Preparation Tips
With the June 2026 exam just 10 days away, preparation must shift entirely to revision and practice. Candidates planning for the December 2026 session have more time but should start structured preparation now to avoid a last-minute rush.
Final 10 Days Strategy (For June 2026 Candidates)
- Stop studying new topics: In the last 10 days, avoid picking up any new chapters. Revise what you already know. Starting new material at this stage creates confusion and affects retention of previously-learned content.
- Spend 60% of time on top 4 subjects: Medicine, Surgery, OBG, and Community Medicine together carry 125 marks. Scoring well here takes you most of the way to the 150-mark pass threshold.
- Solve 200+ MCQs every day: Timed MCQ practice is the most effective activity in the last 10 days. It improves speed, reveals weak areas, and builds exam-day stamina.
- Attempt every question: There is no negative marking. Never leave any MCQ blank on exam day. An educated guess on four options has a 25% chance of being correct — far better than zero.
- Use the two-pass technique: In each session, answer the questions you are confident about in the first pass. Mark uncertain ones and return during the remaining time. You get 50 minutes per section of 50 questions — exactly 1 minute per question.
Preparation Strategy for December 2026 Candidates
- Start with high-yield clinical subjects: Begin with Medicine, Surgery, OBG, and Community Medicine. These are concept-heavy and frequently tested — early and repeated revision yields the best results.
- Prioritize para-clinical subjects early: Pharmacology and Pathology are high-yield subjects that many candidates leave too late. Cover them in the first two months of preparation.
- Solve at least 3,000–4,000 MCQs: Quality MCQ practice across the preparation period is the strongest predictor of FMGE success. Aim to cover previous 5 years of FMGE question papers (both June and December sessions).
- Focus on image-based questions: FMGE increasingly includes ECG recognition, X-ray and CT scan interpretation, histology slides, and clinical photographs. Practice identifying common patterns.
- Track your weak areas systematically: Keep a subject-wise error log and revisit those topics every 2–3 weeks throughout your preparation.

FMGE Pass Rate and Statistics
FMGE has one of the lowest pass rates among major medical licensing exams in India. The pass percentage has historically ranged between 10% and 31% per session. For FMGE June 2026, aim for a score well above 150 — ideally 170 or higher — to build a comfortable margin.
FMGE Session-wise Pass Percentage (2021–2025)
If we look at FMGE session-wise pass percentage, December sessions consistently show higher pass rates than June sessions.
- The December 2022 spike (~30.83%) came partly from a large number of candidates rushing to clear FMGE ahead of the expected NExT rollout.
- If compared with June 2021, the pass percentage in December 2025 / January 2026 remained roughly the same at 23%.
- June sessions have a lower pass rate than December sessions. June 2022 and June 2023 both saw pass rates below 11%, which is the worst on record.
- The number of candidates appearing in each session has grown significantly, from around 18,000 in June 2021 to more than 43,000 in December 2024.
| Session | Candidates Appeared | Candidates Passed | Pass Percentage |
|---|---|---|---|
| June 2021 | 18,048 | 4,283 | 23.71% |
| December 2021 | 23,349 | 5,665 | 23.61% |
| June 2022 | 22,092 | 2,346 | 10.61% |
| December 2022 | 30,548 | 9,840 | ~30.83% |

- June sessions are tougher: Historically, June sessions have a lower pass rate than December sessions. June 2022 and June 2023 both saw pass rates below 11%, which is the worst on record.
- Candidate pool is growing: The number of candidates appearing in each session has grown significantly — from around 18,000 in June 2021 to more than 43,000 in December 2024. This reflects the growing number of Indian students taking MBBS abroad.
- Targeting above 170 is safer: In June 2025, the number of candidates scoring above 200 out of 300 dropped sharply to just 136 (from 259 in June 2024). Even a score of 170 places you well above the pass line in most sessions.
FMGE 2026 Result
The FMGE June 2026 result has not been declared yet. The exam will be held on June 28, 2026, and the result is expected in the last week of July 2026, approximately 3–4 weeks after the exam.
In the December 2025 session (held January 17, 2026), NBEMS declared results just 12 days after the exam — by January 29, 2026. The June 2025 session result came in about 26 days. Based on this, the FMGE June 2026 result can realistically be expected between mid-July and the last week of July 2026.

|---|---|
| Result Declaration | By 28 July, 2026 |
| Individual Scorecard Available | 1–2 weeks after result (August 2026) |
| FMGE Pass Certificate Issued | 2–3 months after result (September–October 2026) |
FMGE 2026 Qualifying Marks
FMGE does not have a merit-based cutoff. Unlike NEET UG or NEET PG, there is no ranking or category-wise cutoff list. The qualifying threshold is fixed, uniform, and set by regulation.
| Category | Qualifying Marks | Qualifying Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| All Candidates (General / SC / ST / OBC / OCI / PwD) | 150 out of 300 | 50% |
There is no category-based relaxation in FMGE qualifying marks. All candidates — regardless of caste, category, or country of study — must score at least 150 out of 300 to pass.
Scoring exactly 150 means you have passed. There is no distinction between candidates who score 150 and those who score 280 — both receive the FMGE Pass Certificate equally. However, targeting 170 or above is practical advice given exam-day uncertainty and the risk of silly mistakes.
After FMGE: What Happens Next?
Passing FMGE is not the final step to practice medicine in India. After clearing the exam, you must complete a structured post-exam process to get your permanent medical licence. Here is the complete sequence.
Step-by-Step Post-FMGE Process
- Step 1 — Collect FMGE Pass Certificate: NBEMS issues the FMGE Pass Certificate approximately 2–3 months after the result, following physical document verification. NBEMS releases a separate notice with the verification schedule and venue — you must appear in person with original documents to collect the certificate. This is the foundational document for everything that follows.
- Step 2 — Apply for Provisional Registration: Apply to the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the State Medical Council (SMC) of the state where you plan to intern for Provisional Registration. This allows you to work as a trainee doctor within a recognized hospital only.
- Step 3 — Complete 12-Month Internship in India: You must complete a compulsory rotating internship at an NMC-approved hospital in India. This internship cannot be done abroad — even if you completed internship as part of your foreign MBBS, Indian regulations require a fresh internship in an NMC-approved institution. The internship covers General Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Community Medicine, and Emergency Medicine in rotation.
- Step 4 — Apply for Permanent Registration: After completing the internship, apply to the NMC or SMC for permanent medical registration. Once approved, you receive a permanent registration number and can practice medicine independently anywhere in India.
- Step 5 — Eligibility for PG Courses: With permanent registration, you become eligible to apply for postgraduate medical courses in India through NEET PG (or the upcoming NExT Step 2 when it comes into force).
Provisional vs Permanent Registration
| Feature | Provisional Registration | Permanent Registration |
|---|---|---|
| When Granted | After passing FMGE and document verification | After completing 12-month internship in India |
| Issued By | NMC or State Medical Council | NMC or State Medical Council |
| Allows | Practice as intern / trainee in approved hospital only | Independent practice of medicine anywhere in India |
| PG Eligibility | Not eligible | Eligible to apply for PG medical courses |
FMGE and NExT — What You Should Know
The National Medical Commission has announced plans to replace FMGE with the National Exit Test (NExT). NExT will unify the licensing pathway for both Indian and foreign medical graduates. However, as of June 2026, FMGE remains the valid and operative examination. NExT implementation is expected from 2027 onwards, but no official launch date has been confirmed by the NMC.
- NExT will have two steps: Step 1 (theory MCQs, similar in format to FMGE but broader) and Step 2 (clinical skills assessment).
- Candidates currently in the FMGE system will continue under FMGE until NExT is formally rolled out.
- You should prepare for and appear in FMGE June 2026 without waiting for NExT.

Ques. What is the qualifying marks for FMGE 2026?
Ans. You need to score at least 150 out of 300 (50%) to pass FMGE 2026. This threshold applies equally to all candidates — there is no category-based relaxation for SC, ST, OBC, or PwD. FMGE is a qualifying exam, not a ranking exam — there is no merit list. Everyone who scores 150 or above receives the FMGE Pass Certificate.
Ques. What is the FMGE pass percentage?
Ans. FMGE has a historically low pass rate. In June 2025, only 18.61% of the 36,034 candidates who appeared managed to pass (6,707 candidates). The December 2025 session had a 23.37% pass rate (10,264 out of 43,933 candidates). December sessions consistently outperform June sessions. The all-time high was approximately 30.83% in December 2022.
Ques. Who is eligible to appear for FMGE 2026?
Ans. You are eligible for FMGE 2026 if you are an Indian citizen or OCI cardholder who holds an MBBS degree from a recognized foreign medical university obtained through a full-time, on-campus programme. If you took admission abroad on or after March 15, 2002, you also need a valid NMC Eligibility Certificate. If admitted from May 2018 onwards, a valid NEET-UG scorecard is required. There is no age limit and no limit on attempts.
Ques. How many times can I attempt FMGE?
Ans. There is no limit on the number of FMGE attempts. You can appear in every session — June and December — until you clear the exam. If you do not clear the June 2026 session, the next opportunity is the December 2026 session (tentatively scheduled for January 9, 2027), with registrations expected to open in October 2026.
Ques. Is there negative marking in FMGE 2026?
Ans. No, there is no negative marking in FMGE. A correct answer gives you 1 mark. A wrong answer or an unanswered question gives you 0 — no marks are deducted. This means you should attempt all 300 questions without hesitation. Even guessing on a four-option MCQ gives you a 25% chance of earning a mark, which is always better than zero.
Ques. What happens after passing FMGE 2026?
Ans. After passing FMGE, you need to follow these steps:
- Appear for document verification at NBEMS and collect the FMGE Pass Certificate (issued 2–3 months after the result)
- Apply for Provisional Registration with the NMC or your State Medical Council
- Complete a mandatory 12-month rotating internship at an NMC-approved hospital in India

Ques. Is FMGE being replaced by NExT?
Ans. Yes, eventually. The National Exit Test (NExT) is planned to replace FMGE for foreign medical graduates as well as the final MBBS exam for Indian graduates. However, as of June 2026, FMGE is still the active and valid licensing examination. NExT implementation is expected from 2027 onwards, but no confirmed launch date has been set by the NMC. Do not delay your preparation — appear in FMGE June 2026 as planned.
Ques. When will the FMGE June 2026 result be declared?
Ans. The FMGE June 2026 result is expected in the last week of July 2026. Based on recent trends, results have been declared within 12–26 days of the exam. The December 2025 session result was declared just 12 days after the exam. Individual scorecards and subject-wise marks are typically available 1–2 weeks after the result announcement.
