Ques. Is it good to take ISM Dhanbad, M.Tech (mechanical) if I am getting in NIT Surathkal M.Tech (mechanical)? Which is better in terms of placements? Does ISM Dhanbad have the placements for M.Tech (ME)?

● Top Answer By Sharmila Ganguli on 31 Oct 20

Ans. M.Tech Mechanical is a preferred stream but its success is directly proportional to the level of placements offered by colleges in comparison to the fees or investment made. The number of students enrolled is less compared to B.Tech making it a less lucrative option for campus placements. The detailed analysis is as follows. Eligibility: The basic criterion stands at graduation with a minimum score of 50%. The common examination accepted is GATE. Fees: NIT Surathkal has a fee structure of Rs. 1.85 Lakhs ISM Dhanbad offers the course is Rs. 1.05 Lakhs. ISM has fewer fees as compared to NIT Surathkal. Placement Details: The prime-most details to be focused upon are the average and highest placement scenario of both the colleges in general. College Placement NIT Surathkal Average-Rs.11.90 LPA, Highest-Rs. 18.75 LPA ISM Dhanbad Highest-Rs. 12.50 LPA 79% placements in NIT Surathkal M.Tech as opposed to 50% in ISM. Major Recruiters are Teradata, Cisco, Dell EMC, Riverbed Technology, and Huawei Technologies. ISM M.Tech is not preferable for mechanical, it’s a sure shot option in case of CSE or Mineral engineering. The only reason to prefer ISM is the IIT factor attached to it which makes it more appealing in terms of faculty and culture. The choice can be made both on the basis of placements and college ranking with respect to the course offered. The packages offered in the Mechanical stream in NIT Surathkal are quite good as compared to those in ISM Dhanbad. NIT Surathkal also holds a reputation in the institutional list with respect to its 7th position in the list of NIT.Read more

Ques. What is the salary range for an MTech graduate in mechanical engineering from IIT Bombay?

● Top Answer By Sumit Bose on 18 Mar 23

Ans. The salary of an MTech graduate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay varies from branch to branch. Mechanical Designers get more salary ranging from 5 to 12 lakh than others some even get around 20 LPA. Thermal Engineering students get slightly lower packages than design students  Manufacturing Engineering students get salaries of around 4 Lakhs to 8 Lakhs MTech students are usually hired by core companies that gain less profit than Software Companies and hence end up with lower packages than BTech students. Moreover, companies are aware that BTech students are all-rounders and thus prefer them to MTech students. However, the promotion of MTech students is faster than that of BTech students.Read more

Ques. What are placement opportunities for students pursuing an M.Tech in mechanical engineering from IISC, Bangalore?

● Top Answer By Mayank Trivedi on 14 Jul 23

Ans. Well honestly, once you are in the grasp of the IISc magic, you will forget about placements, and your hunger for higher studies and research will grow instead. The intense workload and the dynamic research environment will bring you close to some of the geniuses who may be pursuing a Ph.D., UG, or master's. Interacting with them will make you realize that higher studies are a better option. Some who go for jobs anyway, come back to get a PhD sometime later. This is what the IISc effect is after all. As for the IISC placements for MTech Mechanical Engineering, students receive a minimum of 8 LPA packages with no limit on top packages varying from 15-25 LPA CTC. The major recruiters include companies like TATA motors, TATA steel, TCS research, Mahindra motors, Philips, Airbus, General Electric, Rolls Royce, TATA advanced system, PTC, L&T, and other design, manufacturing, and petroleum companies. The best part is that students of this branch can sit for placements in companies of Aerospace, Civil, Chemical, and Material Engineering as well.  In all placements at IISc won't be an issue for either branch yet I will say again, judging a research-oriented institute like IISc on the basis of placements is not justified. Read more

● Top Answer By Anisha Srivastav on 27 Jul 23

Ans. My brother had to appear for an online interview because he applied during the corona time. He joined Google Meet on time and began with his introductions. The interviewers asked him a number of questions like Describe the college you did your bachelor's from and the placement scenario there Is there any topic you are most comfortable with for the technical questions? What is compressible flow and compressible fluid? what is internal energy? PV^? what are its assumptions? Define isoentropic process dh = M Cp dt where can we apply this? Is it valid for gases only? Define Cp and Cv For solids why do we use Q=mcdt .what is C here? Why is solid C constant here? Basically, he was bombarded with a lot of technical questions although they helped him a lot. From the interview experience, he arrived at the conclusion that to ace the interview one must have revised the notes he/she prepared while studying for GATE. Read more

Ques. How is the M.Tech in welding technology at NIT Trichy in terms of placements?

● Top Answer By Siddharth Mukharjee on 15 Sept 21

Ans. Welding technology has the distinct advantage of having some organizations who come to NIT Trichy solely to hire welding masters. In core welding firms, more than 50% placement is guaranteed. During the placement process, many software and mechanical firms visit the campus.  According to the recent placement highlights, the placement average for Welding Technology was around 60%. The placement average is less this year due to the ongoing pandemic.  The average CTC offered in the placement is 7-9 LPA.  The major recruiting companies that visit the campus are Tata Steel, Caterpillar, Lincoln, etc. NDT companies also recruit from Welding. If you have the required skills you can also sit for software and data science roles.  Almost 60% of the branch get placed in Mechanical core while the remaining 40% get placed in sectors like software, marketing, etc. If you have good CGPA and decent communication skills then getting into core sectors from Welding Engineering at NIT Trichy will not be that difficult.Read more

Ques. What is your review on NIT Silchar for M.tech in mechanical engineering?

● Top Answer By Lipika Chakraborty on 24 Aug 23

Ans. NIT Silchar is a prestigious engineering college that imparts quality education in various fields. However, the PG courses aren't very well-known and only the UG courses have gained fame over time. It is therefore advisable to check the profiles of the teachers in the respective department. Additionally, NIT Silchar is located in a remote location and you might find it difficult to procure your equipment for projects. MTech depends on the quality of the research and project you have completed and if you fail to accomplish it your MTech degree is invaluable.  Most companies visiting NIT Silchar prefer BTech students to MTech students. So getting a good job let alone a core job is very difficult here. The institute has no international ties so your future prospects may narrow down further. Consider all the above factors before making your final decision!Read more
