Ques. Which is better, civil engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar or chemical engineering at BITS Hyderabad??

● Top Answer By Muskan Agrahari on 24 Jun 25

Ans. Both choices are good, but it will depend on your priorities — branch interest, campus life, or brand value. Here is a condensed comparison to guide your decision: Quick Comparison: IIT Bhubaneswar (Civil) vs BITS Hyderabad (Chemical) Category IIT Bhubaneswar (Civil) BITS Hyderabad (Chemical) Institute Type Govt. (IIT), NIRF Rank 47 Private (BITS Pilani campus), well-ranked Admissions JEE Advanced BITSAT Avg. Package 12–13.6 LPA (Civil avg. slightly lower) 10–13 LPA (Chemical) Placement Rate ~68% (Civil) ~80–90% (Chemical) Highest Package 64 LPA (IITBBS overall) 30–40 LPA (BITS Hyd overall, rare) Academics Traditional IIT model Flexible curriculum, dual degree options Campus Life Growing student life, IIT tag Very vibrant, student-run fests & freedom Brand Value IIT system legacy Strong BITS industry reputation Both of these colleges provide good education and placements, but IIT Bhubaneswar provides you with the IIT label and main civil exposure, while BITS Hyderabad provides a free-flowing, student-oriented experience with good placement support in and outside chemical engineering. Ques. Which one is better: chemical engineering at IIT Bombay or computer science and engineering at IIT (BHU) in Varanasi?

● Top Answer By Rishabh on 12 Jul 24

Ans. I am a second-year chemical engineering student at IIT Bombay. I think you should opt for Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay.  IIT Bombay received 3rd position in the Engineering category as per NIRF 2023 Ranking. In the Placements 2023, the highest package bagged at IIT Bombay was INR 1.68 CPA. OCl, BPCL, ONGC, Reliance Industries, etc. recruit students from the Chemical Department of our institution.  Here is a comparison table between IIT Bombay Chemical and IIT BHU: Parameters IIT Bombay (Overall) IIT BHU (B.Tech CSE) NIRF 2023 Engineering Ranking #3 #15 Placement 2023 88% (B.Tech) 97.32% Highest Package 2023 INR 3.67 CPA INR 1.15 CPA Average Package 2023 INR 21.82 LPA INR 34.43 LPA Top Recruiters 2023 OCl, BPCL, ONGC, Reliance Industries, etc. Google, Microsoft, Sprinklr, Salesforce, DE Shaw, Goldman Sachs, etc. (The branch-wise placement data for IIT Bombay is not available) IIT Bombay is located in a mega-city, with great industry exposure, and easy access to other cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Moreover, IIT Bombay is a much bigger brand than IIT BHU, and it offers much better placements. Thus, I would recommend you choose B.Tech Chemical at IIT Bombay in place of B.Tech CSE at IIT BHU. Read more

Ques. What should I choose between IIT Indore (CSE) and IIT Delhi (Chemical Engineering)?

● Top Answer By Rohit Gajendra on 09 Jul 24

Ans. IIT Delhi is consistently ranked among the top engineering institutions in India. Its brand name will significantly improve your employment prospects after graduation. Moreover, the ‘IIT’ tag will be beneficial if you apply for higher education in foreign universities in the near future.  The Chemical Engineering program at IIT Delhi is known for its rigorous curriculum. The department has state-of-the-art facilities and top industry collaborations. This allows the students to gain excellent research exposure. Moreover, the placements at IIT Delhi are better than those at IIT Indore due to the former’s strong industry connections.  Chemical Engineering graduates from IIT Delhi find job opportunities in diverse sectors including petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, environmental engineering, and even in finance and consulting. IIT Delhi's vast and influential alumni network can be invaluable for your career growth. Here’s a comparison between IIT Delhi and IIT Indore for your reference: Particulars IIT Delhi  IIT Indore    Year of Establishment    1961    2009   NIRF Ranking 2023 (Engineering Category)    2    14   Highest CTC (2023)   INR 2.5 CPA (Overall)   INR 68 LPA (CSE) Median CTC (2023) - INR 28.57 LPA (CSE) Average CTC (2023) INR 17.60 LPA (Overall) INR 30.89 LPA (CSE)   % Batch placed (2023) 84.94% (Overall) 96.83% (CSE) (The branch-wise placement stats for IIT Delhi are not available). Due to the various reasons listed above, I would recommend you choose Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi over CSE at IIT Indore. Read more

Ques. Which is better, IIT Delhi (chemical) or BITS Pilani (CSE)?

● Top Answer By Shruti on 09 Jul 24

Ans. I am a B.Tech Chemical Engineering student at IIT Delhi. According to me, these are the main factors you should consider while making up your mind: Demand: CSE is more in-demand than chemical engineering. Brand: The “IIT” tag holds more brand value than the “BITS” tag. The “IIT” tag will be more advantageous if you want to apply to foreign universities for higher education later on. Fees: IIT Delhi is an affordable choice, whereas, BITS Pilani has high fees for its engineering programs. Additionally, IIT Delhi has better placements, which places it at a better position in terms of ROI. Here is a comparison between IIT Delhi Chemical and BITS Pilani CSE: Parameters IIT Delhi Chemical BITS Pilani CSE Course Fee INR 99,650 (for sem-1)* INR 3.32 lakh (for sem-1) Highest Package (2023: Overall) INR 2.5 CPA  INR 60. 75 LPA Average Package (2023: Overall) INR 17.60 LPA INR 30.37 LPA CTC Range (for 2023) - (IT branches) INR 11 - 38 LPA Campus Recruiters Microsoft, CISCO, Accenture, Brain & company, Jaguar Land Rover India Limited EY, HSBC,KPMC, HCL,IBM, TCS *This is the fee-structure for General/OBC students with family income>5 LPA.    Even though CSE is a highly sought after branch in the current market, I would suggest you opt for Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi will offer a better ROI, and its brand name will be of immense benefit if you wish to pursue higher studies in India and abroad after graduation.   You can do some research on the career and research opportunities after Chemical Engineering, and see if this branch aligns with your future goals.Read more

● Top Answer By Debdutta Roy on 06 Jul 24

Ans. All of the institutions are well-recognized academic institutions in India. However, I think choosing IIT Bhubaneswar is better than going with chemical engineering at IIT BHU or CSE at NIT Rourkela.  IIT Bhubaneswar is known for its excellent theoretical and practical curriculum. IIT Bhubaneswar provides a dual full-time 5-year course, B.Tech in Civil Engineering + M.Tech in Transportation Engineering. The placement records are good, with 80% of the students placed in the year 2023. The highest package is INR 38.7 LPA , and the median package is INR 10.57 LPA .Read more
