KCP Pharm.D FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between Pharm.D (6 years) and Pharm.D Post Baccalaureate (3 years) at KCP?

Ans. Pharm.D (6 years) is for students who have completed 10+2 (HSC) with science subjects. It is a full 6-year programme including 5 years of academic study and 1 year of clinical internship. Pharm.D Post Baccalaureate (3 years) is for students who have already completed B.Pharm and want to pursue the Pharm.D qualification. Both programmes are offered at KCP and lead to the same Pharm.D degree.

Ques. Is Pharm.D from KCP recognised for working abroad, especially in the Gulf countries?

Ans. Yes, Pharm.D graduates from PCI-approved institutions like KCP are eligible to appear for foreign pharmacy licensure examinations in USA (FPGEE), Canada (PEBC), Australia, and GCC countries (Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia). The Pharm.D degree is internationally recognised and many KCP graduates have pursued careers in Gulf countries and other international destinations.

Ques. What hospitals are affiliated with KCP for Pharm.D clinical training?

Ans. KCP has affiliations with hospitals in and around Coimbatore for clinical pharmacy training. The college has strong connections with Apollo Hospitals (as evidenced by their campus placement drives). Students get hands-on clinical pharmacy experience during the internship year, working in hospital pharmacy settings, ICUs, and outpatient departments.

Ques. What is the fee structure for Pharm.D at KCP? Is it the same for government and management quota?

Ans. The total fee for Pharm.D is Rs. 18.18 Lakhs for 6 years. This fee applies to management quota seats. Government quota seats (filled through DME Tamil Nadu counselling) may have a different fee structure as regulated by the Tamil Nadu government. Contact the college at admin@kcp.edu.in for the exact government quota fee details.

Ques. Can Pharm.D graduates from KCP pursue Ph.D after completing the programme?

Ans. Yes, Pharm.D graduates are eligible to join Ph.D programmes at National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), AIIMS, JIPMER, NIMHANS, PGIMER Chandigarh, and other premier institutions through qualifying PhD entrance exams. International MS/PhD admissions are also available based on academic excellence, GRE scores, and research experience.

Ques. What is the scope of Pharm.D compared to B.Pharm in terms of career opportunities?

Ans. Pharm.D offers significantly broader career opportunities compared to B.Pharm. While B.Pharm graduates primarily work in manufacturing, retail pharmacy, and sales, Pharm.D graduates are trained for clinical pharmacy practice, hospital pharmacy management, pharmacovigilance, medical writing, clinical research, and international pharmacy practice. Pharm.D is the preferred qualification for clinical pharmacist roles in corporate hospitals and for international pharmacy licensure. The salary prospects are also generally higher for Pharm.D graduates.
