The Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research is located at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. It is popularly known as IIOR Hyderabad and was established in 1967. The institute provides students with Ph.D. degrees in Agriculture and it is approved by the ICAR- Indian Council of Agricultural Research. It started operations with an administrative head and with the aid of seven other project coordinators. The NTA (National Testing Agency) conducts the AICE JRF/SRF Ph.D. entrance examination for the admission of students into the institute. The candidate applying for admission shall have an M.Sc. degree in the field with a minimum of 60% of marks.

The Exam structure consists of Stream A and Stream B, Stream A consists of physics, chemistry and agriculture/biology and Stream B consists of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Exam is purely based on the subjects except Stream A exam paper there are questions from both subjects ?Biology and Agriculture. Candidates need to attempt questions from either of the subjects.

I had applied for PhD in agriculture oilseeds. Besides course curriculum this university also focuses on various internships and experiments. Such as Sorghum MAGIC: Multiparent Advanced Generation Inter-Cross development for gene discovery and allele validation millet (2008-2010) funded by Generation Challenge Programme of CGIAR ? Development of microsatellite markers for improving the breeding efficiency of pearl millet in Africa and Asia (2006-2008) funded by Syngenda Foundation, USA.
In this college I had applied for PhD program in agriculture. The course structure focuses on the research. The guides are really helpful and we get too much of informations to learn.The & project coordinators were for groundnut, rapeseed-mustard, sesame and niger, linseed, castor, safflower, and sunflower.
The course was of 3 years which included various assignments, mostly lab work. we had to submit thesis on our research project. The schedule was quite hectic and the degree demands your time and attention.
The course is of 3 years and gives full exposure to the agricultural field as the college works on research projects. It prepares the student for future by giving full opportunity to work . The college also has lab which is fully capable of soil and plant analysis. The balance between theory and practical is perfect.
The course is offered in full time regular mode for 3 years of duration. We are surrounded by various assignments, lab works, case based studies. We have to submit our PhD thesis within the given time period. All this workload makes the degree hectic by the end of the day.
Syllabus for Ph.D. has been created ideally which will help students and researchers to grasp important knowledge about agriculture. Apart from this, there are various field trips to local farms and institute's farms to give students the concept of farming and seeds.
