Is it difficult to get into NIFT Kannur?

Every year, over 22,000 students apply for about 4,000 seats across all NIFTs. NIFT Kannur is popular, especially in demand for courses like Fashion Design. NIFT Kannur Fees for B.Des and B.F.Tech is INR 3.26 Lakhs for the First Year. For PG programs such as M.Des, M.F.Tech, and MFM, the institute charges INR 6.46 Lakhs for the entire course.

NIFT Kannur offers B.Des and B.F.Techat theUGand M.F.M. and M.Des at the PG levels. For UG, candidates can choose from 4 different B.Des specializationsTextile Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Communication, and B.FTech in Apparel Production. These UG courses are of a duration of 4 years. It offers M.Des (Design), M.F.M (Fashion Management), which are all 2-year programs at the PG level. Each course mixes creativity, technology, and business skills, depending on what you choose.

On what basis does NIFT Kannur offer admission?

NIFT Kannur Admission to all UG and PG programs is based on the NIFT Entrance Exam that includes a General Ability Test (GAT) along with an additional Creative Ability Test (CAT) for B.Des and M.Des programs. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of the NIFT Entrance Exam will have to then appear for a Situation Test or Personal Interview, if applicable to the course.

Can I join NIFT Kannur without an entrance exam?

No, NIFT Kannur doesnt offer admission to any of its courses without having a valid rank/scores in the national level entarnce exam conducted by NIFT. The exam includes GAT (General Ability Test), CAT (Creative Ability Test), and a Situation Test (for B.Des) or GD/PI (for M.Des and MBA).However, for NRI or foreign nationals, one can apply without the entrance exam using SAT, GRE, or GMAT scores. Theres also a ateral entry option into the 2nd year for diploma holders through a separate test.

Im just a first year so i havent done any internships yet. But from some of my seniors i heard you have to find internship opportunity yourselves. I will start looking for internship after second year.

Student Experience at NIFT

Likes

The people are fun to be around and from different areas
The environment is calm and the infrastructure is big
The exams are conducted as juries , so it’s practical

Dislikes

The teaching methods aren’t great, expectations weren’t met
The food is not great. It’s mostly the same menu every day
The facilities can be improved for the overall benefit

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for placements in the final semester,.i.e, semester 8. Different companies dealing with various streams visit colleges, providing a number of offers. For example, Reliance, Titan, Samsung and other smaller companies depending on the vacancies. The average package would be 3,00,000 - 6,00,000 and the highest would be 17,00,000- 18,00,000. Almsot 30% - 50% students get placed and get an average package. I plan to pursue my masters after the degree.

Likes

Diversity in college as students come from different parts of the country.
Regular industry visit/field visit for better exposure and experience gain.
Ample of cultural events and activities that maintain the youth of college.

Dislikes

There is no such thing I've seen so far.

Internships Opportunities:

The placement rate at NIFT kannur is generally between 60% to 70%. The top roles offered are head designer, assistant designer, print developer and textile head designer. Companies that recruit at NIFT kannur include MNCs, design houses, Raymond, Reliance and Fab India.

Great Experience at NIFT

Likes

The college and campus is pretty peaceful. And you can know everyone in the college
The college especially the kannur campus organises various activities every week to keep the fun going on.

Dislikes

There is less departemnts in the college. The facilities are nice. Also they can inprove the canteen food.

There is 2 compulsory internship in the course. One is a 2 month summer internship after 3rd year.a nd one is a 4 month graduation project during 8th sem. The faculties will give us mail ids of differnt companies. And we can choose and apply for internships. We can also apply anywhere we want if we can get the deliverables based on college guidelines. If are not able to get one by ourselves. The faculty mentors will help us get one.

Some things to know before you get into KSID

Likes

The students studying in the college are absolute gems
The faculties teaching methods and qualities are above average and helpful in most scenarios
The basic amenities/labs required for a design college are provided in the campus while some proposed buildings are still undeveloped

Dislikes

The management staffs are not very efficient in their work
There are only a limited number of faculties available as of now
Access of labs and amenities are limited to working hours

Internships Opportunities:

Students from our college has received internship offers from big companies such as Tata, Royal Enfield, etc for the roles of creative designers in product and communication. The projects are related to the respective field you're interested in and the outcomes have been great

NIFT KANNUR - the irreplaceable chapter in my life

Likes

The faculties are really industry experienced
The college provides students freedom of expression
All are treated equally and no discrimination is made

Dislikes

The course fees is too much and not affordable
Even if we are sick or in any bad situation that we cannot attend the classes, our attendance is still marked absent and we are forced to do rejury and pay fees . Even in worst situations they wont consider our situations.
The fact that the college is placed in the middle of nowhere like there is not much anything nearby

Unfortunate Truth

Likes

Got nice friends so I couldn't attend the college,if no the college would be changed for sure
Music can be played in the class while we are working
There is field trip may be twice we have received

Dislikes

Bad quality of infrastructure including campus amenities and learning facilities
No engagement with the college and no quality of social interaction
No programs or fashion shows are conducted at college, doesn't look like a fashion college with no exposure for the students there

Placement Experience:

After 8th semester the students are eligible for campus placement. Companies like Allen Solly, Kitex , Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger . Not high percentage of students are placed but some are. After getting the degree get a experienced and work as personal designer. Or fashion merchandising

Whole about NIFT

Likes

They provide the best fashion related courses and the best labs
The proper equipment’s and top end mechanical support they give
Out of all they provide every Wednesday DJ to flesh out our stress

Dislikes

We didn’t like the one thing that boys there is no hostel
And the car and bike parking for the students are not there inside the campus it’s outside
They don’t provide the materials to do our work

Internships Opportunities:

The internship will be based on the semester at the 6 th sem there is a compulsory internship that every students have to do . In that time we have to be a part of the project and also we have to get the products samples also . The jury evaluation will be there . And also the internship we have to find they will help but we have to find it in our way . Fashion and production related companies we usually goes

My gen z college life

Likes

I like the vast curriculum here because if this we get to study not only design and fashion but it also includes modelling, gardening, dance zumba, shoots and many more.
These college will bring out the most out of u in terms of social interactions because u have to interact with a lot of people on a daily basis especially with seniors because these seniors will ultimately help u get internship.
The campus is really nice and quite big. The building is not that old but the problem is we don't have AC over here

Dislikes

I don't like the students over here because of tge superiority complex.
There is a language barrier as most of the students here are either malyali or marathi. The mallu people rarely speak English so it's difficult to have a conversation with them.
Faculties sometimes can take revenge saying that they can ruin ur career and all.

Internships Opportunities:

So in third year we have to go for internship as it is part of the curriculum. We are asked to make a collection for whatever brand we are working wirh. They don't really help in getting internship u have to use ur own contacts and sources to get internship.

LIFE AT NIFT KANNUR

College infrastructure the ambiance and the locality
The faculties are very expert and they have very industry experience and connections

Dislikes

The hostel food quality should improve and facilities too

Placement Experience:

Campus placements are for students who are in semester 8 which means the fourth year the top recruiting companies are arvind lifestyle brands limited bata India limited h&m Manyavar etc the highest package offered was 6 to 7 lakhs per annum and the lowest paid was 2 lakhs per annum average package was 3 to 4 lakhs per annum job profiles offered are merchandiser production manager ie executive etc 99 percent of students got placements after completing my degree may I opt for masters or may search for a good company
