UGI D.Pharma FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between D.Pharma and B.Pharma, and which one should I choose?
Ans. D.Pharma is a 2-year diploma programme that qualifies you to work as a registered pharmacist, open a medical store, or work in hospital pharmacies and drug manufacturing. B.Pharma is a 4-year degree programme that offers broader career options including R&D, quality control, regulatory affairs, and eligibility for M.Pharm. If you want to enter the pharmacy profession quickly and at a lower cost, D.Pharma is ideal. If you want a more comprehensive education and higher career growth, B.Pharma is better. Importantly, D.Pharma holders can pursue B.Pharma through lateral entry (direct 2nd year), saving one year.
Ques. What is the total fee for D.Pharma at UGI Allahabad for 2026-27?
Ans. As per the official UGI fee structure for 2026-27, the total fee is Rs. 1,57,000 over 2 years (Rs. 80,000 in Year 1 and Rs. 77,000 in Year 2). This includes tuition fee, university dues, and book bank charges. The caution deposit of Rs. 3,000 paid in Year 1 is refundable. Fee is payable in two instalments per year.
Ques. Is JEECUP mandatory for D.Pharma admission at UGI Allahabad, or can I apply directly?
Ans. JEECUP is the primary entrance exam for D.Pharma admission at UGI Allahabad. 85% of seats are filled through JEECUP counselling. The remaining 15% management quota seats can be filled directly by the institute. Candidates interested in management quota admission should contact UGI directly at info@united.ac.in or call 9999707942. However, appearing in JEECUP is strongly recommended as it gives access to the majority of seats.
Ques. Can I open my own medical store (pharmacy) after completing D.Pharma from UGI Allahabad?
Ans. Yes, after completing D.Pharma from a PCI-approved institute like UGI Allahabad, you can register as a pharmacist with the Uttar Pradesh State Pharmacy Council. With a valid pharmacist registration, you are eligible to open and operate a retail pharmacy/medical store (chemist shop) as per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. This is one of the most popular career paths for D.Pharma graduates, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
Ques. What are the career options after D.Pharma from UGI Allahabad?
Ans. After D.Pharma, graduates can work as registered pharmacists in hospitals, nursing homes, and retail pharmacies; as drug inspectors (after qualifying the relevant state exam); in pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in production and quality control roles; as medical representatives; or pursue B.Pharma through lateral entry for higher qualifications. Government pharmacy jobs in state health departments and PSUs like ESIC and CGHS also require D.Pharma as a minimum qualification.
Ques. How many seats are available in D.Pharma at UGI Allahabad, and what JEECUP rank is needed?
Ans. There are 60 seats available in D.Pharma at UGI Allahabad. Since UGI is a well-known PCI-approved institute in Allahabad, competition for seats can be moderate. Based on previous years' trends, candidates with a JEECUP rank within the top 10,000-15,000 in the D.Pharma category generally have a good chance of securing admission. Candidates from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC) have additional seats reserved as per UP government norms.
