The civil engineering department at GIT is supported by a highly qualified faculty with expertise in various engineering disciplines such as structural, geotechnical, and environmental engineering. Despite the faculty's dedication, there is a high attrition rate. First-year admission fees are based on KCET guidelines, requiring a minimum of 45% in specific subjects for general candidates and 40% for reserved categories. Over 750 placements were achieved in the 2015-16 academic year, with participation from around 65 companies, including big names like TCS, Amazon, and Mercedes Benz.
The highest salary package reached Rs. 58 lakh per annum, with an average ranging from Rs. 7 to Rs. 8 lakh. Students can participate in placements from their 6th semester, with a 60-70% placement rate. Although internships are not offered, project-based learning is available, with some projects recognized by KSCST. The fee structure includes a government CET fee of Rs. 35,000 and a college fee of Rs. 14,500 for the first year, reducing in subsequent years.
Through KCET, students pay a total of Rs. 97,000, split between CET and college fees. Scholarships are provided for SC/ST students, covering college fees, and the SSP scholarship offers up to Rs. 18,000 for families with incomes below Rs. 2.5 lakh. The campus also offers separate hostels and campus jobs for students.
