PIET B.Tech Lateral CSE FAQs
Ques. Can a diploma holder from a non-CSE branch apply for B.Tech Lateral Entry in CSE at PIET?
Ans. Yes, as per AICTE and HSTES guidelines, diploma holders from any branch of Engineering and Technology are eligible to apply for B.Tech Lateral Entry in CSE. However, the university may offer bridge courses in subjects like Mathematics and Engineering Drawing to help students from diverse backgrounds meet the learning outcomes of the programme.
Ques. Is the B.Tech Lateral Entry degree from PIET equivalent to a regular B.Tech degree?
Ans. Yes, the B.Tech Lateral Entry degree awarded by Kurukshetra University (or the autonomous PIET) is equivalent to a regular B.Tech degree. Lateral entry students join the 2nd year (3rd semester) and complete the same curriculum as regular students from that point onwards. The degree certificate does not distinguish between lateral and regular entry.
Ques. How many seats are available for B.Tech Lateral Entry in CSE at PIET, and how competitive is the admission?
Ans. PIET offers approximately 30 seats for B.Tech Lateral Entry in CSE. As per AICTE norms, lateral entry seats can be up to a maximum of 10% of the sanctioned intake. Admission is through OCET conducted by HSTES, and competition is moderate. Students with a strong diploma percentage and good OCET rank have a good chance of securing admission.
Ques. What is the fee payment schedule for B.Tech Lateral Entry at PIET?
Ans. The annual fee of Rs. 1,80,000 is payable in two equal instalments of Rs. 90,000 each - the first instalment at the time of admission (1st semester) and the second instalment in November/December (2nd semester). The total fee for the 3-year programme is Rs. 5,40,000.
Ques. Are lateral entry students at PIET eligible for campus placements and scholarships?
Ans. Yes, lateral entry students are fully eligible for campus placements through PIET's Training and Placement Cell and can participate in all placement drives from their 2nd year at PIET onwards. They are also eligible for all institutional scholarships offered by PIET, including merit-based, social criteria-based, and competition-based scholarships.
Ques. What documents are required at the time of reporting to PIET after HSTES counselling seat allotment?
Ans. Candidates must bring original documents including their diploma/B.Sc marksheets and certificates, 10th and 12th marksheets, OCET admit card and rank card, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate (for Haryana candidates), PPP ID (mandatory for Haryana candidates), passport-size photographs, and the seat allotment letter from HSTES. Fee payment is to be made at the institute to confirm admission.
