Hindu College: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 11 Reviews

Hindu College, with about 70 students per class, offers dedicated faculty for each core subject and conducts exams at the Delhi University level. Known for simplifying complex subjects, the college has a strong placement record, with 95% of students securing opportunities. The active placement cell collaborates with top firms like Google, Deloitte, and HDFC. Notable placements include Economics Honours students receiving packages of 29 lakhs and 10 lakhs. The average package is around 10 LPA, with the highest at 13 LPA.

Approximately 80% of eligible students get placed, mainly in commerce and government sectors. The internship cell is active, though not specific to the Philosophy Department. Tuition varies, with BA Philosophy Honours costing around Rs. 18,500 per year and other courses up to Rs. 25,500. Accommodation costs, including hostels or PGs, are significantly higher at about Rs. 1.5 lakhs annually, bringing total yearly expenses to Rs. 2-2.5 lakhs. Scholarship options include government schemes through the National Scholarship Portal and company-sponsored scholarships for financially weaker students.

The Rajeev Bhargava scholarship is available post-enrollment. While placements are not the college's primary focus, some students from professional courses secure placements. Those aiming to study abroad, especially in MA Philosophy, might receive full scholarships based on academic performance, with professors assisting in securing Letters of Recommendation. Despite higher living costs, Hindu College is ranked India's no. 1 co-ed and no. 2 overall by NIRF, offering moderate tuition fees and valuable academic and career opportunities.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The Fee for the entire 1st year course is 27000 for my BA Philosophy Hons. As far as I know the College conducts a test for a scholarship called Raj Bhargav Scholarship which is only available to Humanities students. It reduces the fee by 50% if someone secures it. Yes the course fee has increased in the last few years.

The fee for my course was 25300 ruppes which I think is very high for a government college even though it is ranked India's no. 1 co-ed and no. 2 overall according to the nirf ranking. There are placement opportunities in the campus as I have heard but it is minimal from my perspective because only 10-15% of the class actually gets placed and that too only from the professional courses. But that is not an concern because people don't come Hindu College for placement anyways.

The fee is not really high , it's moderate like around 25000 for a year but main expenses are accomodation cost even hostels are really costly around 1.5 lakhs per year and pg stays also cost around same . So collectively you need around 2-2.5 lakhs for a year . There are lot of scholarships introduced like by government such as nsp and many companies provide scholarships to students of weaker sections

The fees for BA Philosophy Honours is around 18500 per year. I think it's a genuine ask as long as you're having offline classes. I'm still in second year so I don't know about Jobs etc. but you can still apply for government scholarships if you pass the eligibility. You can go for a MA in Philosophy to foreign universities, if you score well you can even get a 100% scholarship and professors are generous enough to provide you with LoRs if your performance is average in college.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I find myself very disappointed with the system. I had high expectations out of this academic system based on other reviews but it turned out to be very underwhelming. There exists a very close-knitted community of people who are dedicated purely towards academics and dialectical discourses, which I'm not sure if it stems from the lack of social encouragement or the carefree attitude of both the professors and students. Although yes, I will appreciate how inspite of its flaws, the DU community is accepting of all.
