GCAC Kolkata Admission FAQs 2026

Ques. How tough is the BFA admission test at GCAC Kolkata?

Ans. The BFA admission test at GCAC Kolkata is quite tough and competitive. The reason for this is the limited number of seats and a large number of applicants for the BFA program. Students usually find the creative section of the test to be the most difficult, as it tests not only their skill, but also their originality and creativity. With constant practicing and sketching, the test becomes easy.

Ques. Do students have to have a fine arts background in order to get enrolled in GCAC Kolkata?

Ans. Not belonging to a fine arts background does not spoil the chances of getting enrolled in GCAC Kolkata. GCAC focuses on skill and creativity, rather than formal training. Many of their students come from Arts, Commerce, or Humanities backgrounds. They secured admissions through their portfolio and performance. Consistency is more important than educational training.

Ques. Do students need to carry a portfolio for admission to GCAC Kolkata?

Ans. Yes, showcasing your portfolio, with at least 10 of your original artworks, is a must for getting admission in GCAC Kolkata. Evaluators check for the authenticity of the portfolio, and determine your personal style through it. A good and unique portfolio becomes the deciding factor between two students who have performed equally in the admission test.

Ques. Can students reapply if they miss out on the first attempt at GCAC Kolkata?

Ans. Students can easily apply for the second time if they fail at their first attempt. They can try again after improving and polishing their skills. Many students say that their second attempt was better, as they had the time to improvise and review their mistakes. They could polish their creativity and give better performance.

Admission:

At RBU I have applied to paint but I got a chance in the government college of art and craft and I thought that it was the best college from RBU that's why I am not attending RBU. I am belonging as an sc candidate. The admission criteria were the first step was the form fill up with all details like 12th marks, 10th marks and family details, quota details etc. After that, the college was sent a mail for admission test and I was attending that and got chance after that clg call for viva test and I was selected for admission in 2019 and submit the fees and start first sem and after now also I am continuing the course. And admission process has rules for all candidates getting a chance for admission just 2 years after HS bt category like sc, st, obc get relaxation for 2 yrs extra also. So the age limit was 19-22 In that time who can eligible for that year. And counselling day the teachers take a small interview with test like in 2 minute figure drawing etc and checking the documents and gave a selection list.

Admission:

I took admission into this college based on my 12th aggregate, after filling the application form I was called to visit the college for completing my admission process. I visited the college and was asked for my ID proof and my 12th marksheet, for verification. After that I filled the registration form and was enrolled in the BFA Applied Arts, as I wished. I also submitted a small portion of my fee after that to ensure my admission there.
