MIT Manipal B.Tech Mechatronics FAQs

Ques. Is B.Tech Mechatronics Engineering at MIT Manipal a good choice for students interested in robotics and automation?

Ans. Yes, MIT Manipal is one of the best and among the very few institutions in India offering Mechatronics as an undergraduate degree. The program has NBA accreditation, industry-grade labs from Bosch, ABB, and Siemens, and strong student project culture through teams like Robo Manipal. However, students should be aware that core Mechatronics placements in India are limited compared to CSE or Mechanical, and success depends heavily on building a strong project portfolio and internship experience.

Ques. What is the placement reality for Mechatronics Engineering at MIT Manipal? Are core jobs available?

Ans. Core Mechatronics placements are limited but available. Companies like Bosch, ABB, Siemens, Continental, and KPIT Technologies recruit from the campus for automation, embedded systems, and controls roles. Many students also get placed in IT/analytics companies. The approximate average package for Mechatronics is Rs. 7-9 LPA, with a placement rate of around 60-70%. Students who proactively build skills in robotics, PLC programming, embedded systems, and IoT tend to get better core placements.

Ques. How does Mechatronics Engineering differ from Mechanical Engineering at MIT Manipal?

Ans. Mechatronics is a multi-disciplinary program combining Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Science, whereas Mechanical Engineering is a more focused, traditional engineering discipline. Mechatronics covers subjects like PLC programming, robotics, embedded systems, control theory, sensors, and drives, in addition to core mechanical subjects. Mechanical Engineering has a larger seat intake (200 vs 120), more core company recruiters, and generally better placement rates. Mechatronics is ideal for students passionate about automation and robotics; Mechanical is better for those seeking broader core engineering opportunities.

MIT Manipal: 2 Answered Questions

What is the total expenditure for a BTech course in Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka?

Sapna Malik
Shyam VermaComputer Science, and Engineering, MIT Manipal

Here is a rough estimate of the total expenditure for a BTech course at MIT Karnataka.

  • Total Tuition Fees ( BTech): INR 18.62 Lakhs
  • Hostel + Mess fees: Around 4–5 Lacs depending on the hostel you choose
  • Travel expense: On average you will be spending 750-1000 per month. So the cost of a 9-month stay for 4 years will be 1000*36= INR 36000
  • Travel expense from home to college: This varies from person to person because if you live far away, you will have to travel by airplane. Assuming, you will be taking 4 trips a year, the cost will be around 1 Lakh.
  • Misclieous Expenses: Around INR 5000 per month. So 5000 x 9 x 4 = 180000 INR.

The above estimate does take into account the money you spend partying or going on trips. Also, it's important to note that the above estimate is purely based on my speculations and may vary from person to person.

Which one is better for a BTech course: BITS Pilani or Manipal Institute of Technology Karnataka?

Bidita GhoseLives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

It's highly illogical to compare a Tier-1 engineering college like BITS to a Tier-2 university like Manipal Institute of Technology.

One cannot compare universities like Manipal, VIT, SRM, Jaypee, Amity, etc. to IIT, NIT, and BITS. These colleges have no brand value of their own and most of the people coming here are those who failed to qualify for competitive exams like JEE/BITSAT/AIEEE/etc. Moreover, the exposure and opportunities offered at BITS are unmatched. It's probably the only private engineering college that enjoys excellent global recognition too.

Irrespective of the branch you go for, the BITS Pilani degree has similar value everywhere. The BITS alumni network is great with some of them being co-founders of Redbus, Hotmail, etc.

Here is a brief comparison of these institutes
