MIT Manipal: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 52 Reviews

Admission to Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) is merit-based, determined by the Manipal Entrance Exam (MET), which tests knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English. The exam allows two attempts and uses a +2, 0 marking scheme. Counseling for seat allocation occurs in May and early June, requiring fee drafts and documents. Classes start mid-July, and the faculty consists of diverse professionals and experienced professors, though teaching quality varies by department.

Mechanical, Civil, and Mathematics faculties are noted for excellence, whereas computer-related branches may lack engagement. Fees for a four-year engineering course total approximately 20 lakh rupees, including tuition, hostel, and mess fees, posing financial challenges for mid-income families. The annual tuition fee is around 3.07 lakh for the first year and 2.97 lakh for later years. Hostel costs vary, with single non-AC and double AC rooms priced at 1.36 lakh annually, contributing to a yearly expense of 4.5 to 5 lakh rupees.

MIT's placement process is strong, attracting over 300 companies annually. Top salaries reach 54-60 lakhs per annum, especially in computer-related fields, with average packages between 6-16 lakhs. The placement rate is 80-93%, with nearly 100% placement in computer science. Major recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, and Goldman Sachs. Internships and Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) are common, supported by a robust alumni network. Scholarships based on merit and financial need are available, including a full tuition waiver for top MET performers and students from families earning below 3 lakhs annually.

Approximately 25% of students receive scholarships covering 20% to 100% of tuition costs. The total cost for four years, including all fees, is about 22-25 lakhs. Financial aid is supported by AICTE and other schemes, with loans easily obtainable from local banks.

MIT B.Tech CSE FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech CSE and B.Tech CSE with specialization at MIT Manipal?

Ans. B.Tech CSE at MIT Manipal allows students to choose a specialization (such as AI/ML, Data Science, Cyber Security, etc.) at the beginning of the 3rd year based on their CGPA. Students who opt for a specialization receive a degree titled, for example, "B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science)." Students who do not opt for a specialization receive a plain "B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering" degree. Both are equally valid; the specialization simply indicates a focused area of study.

Ques. What is the SUNY Binghamton collaboration at MIT Manipal CSE?

Ans. MIT Manipal's CSE department has a collaboration with State University of New York (SUNY), Binghamton, USA, offering a 3.5+1.5 year program. This is a premium pathway for students interested in pursuing higher education abroad while completing their undergraduate studies.

Ques. What MET rank is typically required to get CSE at MIT Manipal?

Ans. CSE is the most competitive branch at MIT Manipal. Based on previous years' trends, students with a MET rank in the range of 1 to approximately 3,000-5,000 (combined merit considering 50% MET + 50% 10+2 marks) typically secure CSE seats. The exact rank requirement varies each year based on the number of applicants and seat availability. Students are advised to aim for a high MET score and maintain strong 10+2 marks.

MIT Manipal: 2 Answered Questions

What is the total expenditure for a BTech course in Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka?

Sapna Malik
Shyam VermaComputer Science, and Engineering, MIT Manipal

Here is a rough estimate of the total expenditure for a BTech course at MIT Karnataka.

  • Total Tuition Fees ( BTech): INR 18.62 Lakhs
  • Hostel + Mess fees: Around 4–5 Lacs depending on the hostel you choose
  • Travel expense: On average you will be spending 750-1000 per month. So the cost of a 9-month stay for 4 years will be 1000*36= INR 36000
  • Travel expense from home to college: This varies from person to person because if you live far away, you will have to travel by airplane. Assuming, you will be taking 4 trips a year, the cost will be around 1 Lakh.
  • Misclieous Expenses: Around INR 5000 per month. So 5000 x 9 x 4 = 180000 INR.

The above estimate does take into account the money you spend partying or going on trips. Also, it's important to note that the above estimate is purely based on my speculations and may vary from person to person.

Which one is better for a BTech course: BITS Pilani or Manipal Institute of Technology Karnataka?

Bidita GhoseLives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

It's highly illogical to compare a Tier-1 engineering college like BITS to a Tier-2 university like Manipal Institute of Technology.

One cannot compare universities like Manipal, VIT, SRM, Jaypee, Amity, etc. to IIT, NIT, and BITS. These colleges have no brand value of their own and most of the people coming here are those who failed to qualify for competitive exams like JEE/BITSAT/AIEEE/etc. Moreover, the exposure and opportunities offered at BITS are unmatched. It's probably the only private engineering college that enjoys excellent global recognition too.

Irrespective of the branch you go for, the BITS Pilani degree has similar value everywhere. The BITS alumni network is great with some of them being co-founders of Redbus, Hotmail, etc.

Here is a brief comparison of these institutes
