MIT Manipal: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 9 Reviews

The Biomedical Engineering program at Manipal University, accessed through the MUOET entrance exam, allows for lateral entry into the second year for diploma holders. The university conducts counseling at its Manipal, Jaipur, and Sikkim campuses. While faculty are noted for their subject expertise and supportiveness, teaching methods focus heavily on academic performance over practical skills, which some students find restrictive. Tuition fees are relatively high, with an annual fee of 3 lakhs INR for most branches and 4 lakhs INR for core branches like Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical and Communications, and Civil Engineering, excluding hostel fees of about 1 lakh INR per year.

Re-registration for failed subjects costs 18,000 INR. Despite stringent financial policies, the college offers scholarships based on merit, financial need, and specific criteria such as OBC status. The university boasts a 90% placement rate with top companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Infosys recruiting students, who become eligible for placements by the 7th semester. Placement packages average between 4-5 LPA, with highs of 30 LPA and lows around 2-3 LPA. Internship opportunities, often without stipends, are available, and students participate in notable projects such as Formula Manipal.

The institution supports student research, offering funding for paper publications and internships. While campus placement opportunities can be limited in some departments, the university provides specialized training through its Placement School and Portal. MIT Manipal: 2 Answered Questions

What is the total expenditure for a BTech course in Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka?

Sapna Malik
Shyam VermaComputer Science, and Engineering, MIT Manipal

Here is a rough estimate of the total expenditure for a BTech course at MIT Karnataka.

  • Total Tuition Fees ( BTech): INR 18.62 Lakhs
  • Hostel + Mess fees: Around 4–5 Lacs depending on the hostel you choose
  • Travel expense: On average you will be spending 750-1000 per month. So the cost of a 9-month stay for 4 years will be 1000*36= INR 36000
  • Travel expense from home to college: This varies from person to person because if you live far away, you will have to travel by airplane. Assuming, you will be taking 4 trips a year, the cost will be around 1 Lakh.
  • Misclieous Expenses: Around INR 5000 per month. So 5000 x 9 x 4 = 180000 INR.

The above estimate does take into account the money you spend partying or going on trips. Also, it's important to note that the above estimate is purely based on my speculations and may vary from person to person.

Which one is better for a BTech course: BITS Pilani or Manipal Institute of Technology Karnataka?

Bidita GhoseLives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

It's highly illogical to compare a Tier-1 engineering college like BITS to a Tier-2 university like Manipal Institute of Technology.

One cannot compare universities like Manipal, VIT, SRM, Jaypee, Amity, etc. to IIT, NIT, and BITS. These colleges have no brand value of their own and most of the people coming here are those who failed to qualify for competitive exams like JEE/BITSAT/AIEEE/etc. Moreover, the exposure and opportunities offered at BITS are unmatched. It's probably the only private engineering college that enjoys excellent global recognition too.

Irrespective of the branch you go for, the BITS Pilani degree has similar value everywhere. The BITS alumni network is great with some of them being co-founders of Redbus, Hotmail, etc.

Here is a brief comparison of these institutes
