MIT Chennai Course Admission 2026: Dates, Fees, Eligibility, Application Process, Selection Criteria

Madras Institute of Technology is a private and autonomous college under Anna University. It ranks at 8th position for Top Engineering Colleges in Chennai and is accredited by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The mode of applying for the college is online, through its official website.

The university is known for its Aeronautical Engineering department. It offers 36 different courses under B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Phil, M.Sc, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. The college offers 9 separate specializations under the undergraduate degree each for the duration of 4 years.

Admission Process:

B.Tech:

• The candidate has to pass the 10+2 exam with a minimum of 50%; with Physics, Maths, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
• Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) exam is necessary to get an undergraduate seat in the college.
• Post the exam, students have to fill the registration form on the Anna University's website. The online application needs to be filled with precaution and an application fee of INR 800 is required.
• The application form of the candidate needs to be mailed to the Office of Director of Admissions, Anna University.
• After the announcement of Merit list, students have to attend the TNEA counseling process conducted by the University.
• Students need to reach the venue with the required documents and a DD of INR 5,000.

The documents required are at the time of admission includes:

• Counseling Call Letter
• Mark sheets of Class 10 and 12
• Graduation certificate
• Allotment Order
• Community Certificate
• Transfer Certificate
• Physically Fit certificate

Students will then receive an allotment letter which needs to be submitted in MIT College to confirm their seat.

Students choose this college for its placement statistics. Companies such as Amazon, TCS, WAPCOS, Dell, Infosys, Microsoft, Bank of America, Qualcomm India, and Adobe visit the campus during the placement season. The average salary of an MIT student is 4.5 LPA and up to INR 3.9 million has been the annual salary package for CSE and IT courses.

After being rejected from MIT, and getting admission in UC Berkeley, I got to know where my shortcomings were. I might not have another chance to change it, but I can surely give you some pointers which might be useful for you.

• Always try keeping your grades up. Try to obtain a minimum of 9 CGPA or above.
• After applying for MIT in your 6th semester, do not take your 7th semester lightly. Your scores will play an important role.
• Try to obtain a high GRE score of 330 or above. Focus mainly on English for GRE.
• Read English newspapers, editorials, magazines, and novels to improve your vocabulary and writing.
• Study GRE materials. Quantitative Aptitude in GRE is comparatively easier.
• Do projects on innovative topics, publish your work, and try acquiring internships at IITs and IISC. 

Lastly, talk to the teachers as they can guide you thoroughly. Make your Statement of Purpose worthy enough. But always remember that MIT is not your only option. Do not get disappointed if you don't get admission there as there will be other options also.

Anna University holds over 13 constituent schools and 593 associated schools. MIT is a member of Anna University and has won various awards that include an award from the Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE). COEP is an autonomous institute and is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University with 725 and 342 students in the UG and PG level courses. Jadavpur University is a member of the Association of Universities of India (AIU) and has been accredited with Grade 'A' by NAAC.

Admission Process:

Anna University and MIT Chennai:

• Students who obtained a minimum of 50% in PCM in 10+2 can apply for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions(TNEA) for undergraduate admissions at MIT Chennai and Anna University. For the B.Arch program, students will have to sit for the NATA entrance exam and must obtain a minimum of 50% in PCM in 10+2

• Bachelor’s students with 50% marks can apply for M.Tech programs, given that they have a relevant TANCET/GATE score and is required by most universities.

College of Engineering Pune: Students with a minimum of 50% in 10+2 can sit for the MH-CET entrance exam, which will enable them to apply for an array of B.E/B.Tech programs at COEP.

Jadavpur University: For admissions into the B.Tech and B.Pharm program of Jadavpur University, students must obtain a minimum of 45% in 10+2 with a valid rank in WBJEE entrance test.

Cut off:

MIT Chennai:

• In the year 2019, the MIT Chennai cut-off for B.E in Computer Engineering was 516 and for B.E in Automobile Engineering was 1312.

• The lowest cut-off at MIT Chennai was recorded in B.E in Rubber and Plastic Technology and B.E in Automobile Engineering with 9812 and 6192 respectively.

Jadavpur University:

• In the year 2019, the WBJEE cut-off for Computer Science and Engineering ranged from 49-81, and Information Technology was 104-159 in Round 1.

College of Engineering Pune:

• Among all the courses in the College of Engineering Pune, the highest cut-off has been recorded in B.Tech in Computer Engineering with a cut-off of 134 in the year 2019.

Admission to the aforementioned universities can be a cakewalk if one qualifies the relevant entrance exams with standard scores. In regard to cut-off marks, universities display wide variation in their cut-off between consecutive years.
