AISSMSCOE M.Tech Mechanical Design FAQs
Ques. Is GATE mandatory for admission to M.Tech Mechanical Engineering Design at AISSMSCOE, or can I apply without a GATE score?
Ans. GATE score is mandatory for admission through the CAP (Centralised Admission Process) rounds conducted by the Maharashtra State CET Cell. However, AISSMSCOE also has institute-level seats and vacant seats after CAP rounds, for which non-GATE candidates may be considered as per DTE Maharashtra rules. If you do not have a GATE score, you can apply for institute-level seats directly to the college during the institute-level admission round (typically in September). It is strongly recommended to have a valid GATE score as it significantly improves your chances of securing a seat in the CAP rounds and may also make you eligible for MHRD/AICTE scholarships.
Ques. What is the difference between CAP round fees and FRA (institute-level) fees for M.Tech at AISSMSCOE?
Ans. Students admitted through the CAP (Centralised Admission Process) rounds pay fees as approved by the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) for CAP seats, which is Rs. 90,000 per year for Open category students. Students admitted through the institute-level or management quota seats pay the FRA-approved fees for those seats, which is Rs. 1,22,000 per year. The difference arises because management/institute-level seats have a higher tuition fee component (Rs. 1,10,000 vs Rs. 76,715). SC category students admitted through CAP pay only Rs. 2,285 per year as their tuition and development fees are waived by the government.
Ques. What specialisations or subjects are covered in the M.Tech Mechanical Engineering Design programme at AISSMSCOE?
Ans. The M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering Design at AISSMSCOE covers subjects such as Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Machine Design, Product Design and Development, Manufacturing Systems, Tribology, Vibration Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and a research-based dissertation in the final semester. The programme is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and follows the SPPU curriculum, which is regularly updated to align with industry requirements. Students also get access to advanced labs including CAD/CAM labs and FEA simulation software.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering Design from AISSMSCOE?
Ans. Graduates of M.Tech Mechanical Engineering Design from AISSMSCOE find opportunities in core engineering sectors such as automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, defence, and R&D organisations. Typical roles include Design Engineer, Product Development Engineer, CAD/CAM Engineer, FEA Analyst, R&D Engineer, and Project Engineer. Companies like Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Cummins, Thermax, Kirloskar, and various Pune-based manufacturing firms recruit from AISSMSCOE. Graduates can also pursue PhD programmes or appear for PSU recruitment through GATE score. Pune's strong industrial base makes it an excellent location for mechanical design engineers.
Ques. Is hostel facility available for M.Tech students at AISSMSCOE, and what are the charges?
Ans. AISSMSCOE has hostel facilities primarily for girls, with two hostels named Jijabai and Tarabai, located approximately 1 km from the college in the heart of Pune city. The hostel fee is Rs. 1,05,000 per academic year, payable in two instalments (Rs. 55,000 immediately and Rs. 50,000 on or before 30th October). The hostels offer 2 and 3 seater rooms, canteen and mess facilities, sports and gymnasium, generator backup, and a dispensary. Hostel accommodation is optional and not mandatory for M.Tech students. Boys' hostel facilities are limited; male students typically arrange private accommodation near the college.
Ques. How is the GATE score used for merit list preparation in Maharashtra M.Tech CAP admissions?
Ans. In Maharashtra M.Tech CAP admissions, the merit list is prepared based on the GATE score (out of 100 marks normalised score). Candidates with higher GATE scores get priority in seat allotment during CAP rounds. The State CET Cell prepares separate merit lists for Maharashtra State candidates and All India candidates. Candidates must register on the State CET Cell portal (me2026.mahacet.org), upload their GATE scorecard, and participate in the online option form submission process. The GATE score is valid for 3 years, so candidates who appeared in GATE 2024, 2025, or 2026 are all eligible to apply for AY 2026-27 admissions, with the best/latest score being considered.
