AISSMSCOE: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 13 Reviews

Admission to AISSMS College of Engineering, Maharashtra, is via the centralized admission process (CAP) managed by the state government. Selection is based on HSC and JEE Mains results, with admissions allocated by merit through a computerized system. The faculty is highly qualified, with most having master's degrees and some holding PhDs, though presentation and English skills vary. Fees for general students are around 1 to 1.2 lakh INR annually, while OBC students pay about 65,000 INR, and SC, NT, and VJNT students pay significantly less due to scholarships.

Jammu and Kashmir students pay approximately 25,000 INR per year. Scholarships like the Chhatrapati Rajarshi Maharaj Scholarship (EBC) reduce fees for students with an income below Rs. 6,00,000 to 60,000 INR, similar to OBC fees. Placement rates are about 60%, with higher success in Computer and IT at 70%, while Civil and Mechanical face challenges, and no Civil students were placed in recent years. In 2019, over 250 students were placed with companies like TCS, Infosys, and Amazon, with average salaries between 2-4 lakhs, and some lower offers at 1.2 lakh INR.

Internships are limited, with some departments offering one-month opportunities. The college assists with government scholarship applications and does not offer direct loans but guides students for external bank loans.

AISSMSCOE BE Civil FAQs

Ques. What makes BE Civil Engineering at AISSMS COE stand out compared to other colleges in Pune?

Ans. AISSMS COE's Civil Engineering department stands out for several reasons: it has a PhD Research Centre (started 2022-23), offers unique Honors programmes in "Architecture and Town Planning" and "Metro Construction" from the third year, and has active student chapters of IEI, IGS, ISTE, and IWWA. The department also has PG programmes (ME in Construction Management and ME in Structural Engineering) on the same campus, making it a comprehensive destination for civil engineering education. The college's NAAC A+ accreditation and NBA accreditation further add to its credibility. Pune's booming infrastructure and real estate sector also provides excellent internship and placement opportunities.

Ques. What is the total fee for the entire BE Civil Engineering course at AISSMS COE for an Open category student?

Ans. For an Open category Maharashtra student admitted through CAP, the FRA-approved tuition and development fee is Rs. 1,63,000 per year. Over 4 years, this amounts to Rs. 6,52,000. In the first year, additional charges such as university exam fees, eligibility fees, Amartya Shiksha Yojana, and form fees bring the total first-year payment to approximately Rs. 1,69,351. Subsequent years will have tuition and development fees plus university exam fees each semester. Management quota students pay Rs. 4,89,000 per year as per FRA norms. Hostel (optional) costs an additional Rs. 1,05,000 per year.

Ques. What are the Honors programmes available in BE Civil Engineering at AISSMS COE, and how can I opt for them?

Ans. AISSMS COE offers two Honors programmes for BE Civil Engineering students: "Honors in Architecture and Town Planning" and "Honors in Metro Construction." These are available from the third year (Semester V) onwards for students who have secured a CGPA of 6.5 or above. Students must register for the Honors programme and complete all assigned credits within 4 years from Semester V. Upon successful completion, the degree certificate will mention the Honors specialization. These programmes are offered under the SPPU curriculum and are a great way to gain a specialization edge in the job market or for higher studies.

Ques. What are the career and placement prospects for BE Civil Engineering graduates from AISSMS COE?

Ans. Civil Engineering graduates from AISSMSCOE find opportunities in infrastructure, construction, real estate, government PSUs, and consulting firms. Pune's rapid urban development, metro rail projects, and IT infrastructure boom create strong demand for civil engineers. Graduates have been placed in companies involved in construction management, structural design, transportation, and water resources. Many students also pursue GATE to qualify for ME/MTech at IITs/NITs or for PSU recruitment (ONGC, NHAI, CPWD, etc.). The college's placement cell actively facilitates campus recruitment, and the department's industry MOUs and expert sessions help students stay industry-ready.

Ques. Is there a lateral entry option for BE Civil Engineering at AISSMS COE, and what is the process?

Ans. Yes, lateral entry (Direct Second Year / DSY) is available for diploma holders in Civil Engineering or related branches. Lateral entry admissions are also conducted through the Maharashtra CAP process via the DSY round. Eligible candidates must have passed a 3-year diploma in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks (40% for reserved categories). The seat intake for lateral entry is 20% of the approved intake (i.e., approximately 24 seats for Civil Engineering). Candidates must register on the CAP portal and participate in the DSY allotment process separately from the first-year CAP rounds.

Ques. How is the infrastructure and lab facility for Civil Engineering at AISSMS COE?

Ans. The Civil Engineering department at AISSMS COE has well-equipped laboratories covering all major areas of civil engineering, including structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, environmental engineering, fluid mechanics, and surveying. The department uses advanced digital instruments and equipment to provide hands-on training. The college also has a dedicated research centre for civil engineering (PhD level), which means students benefit from research-oriented faculty and access to advanced research equipment. Regular industry visits, expert sessions, and participation in national-level hackathons through the Innovation Cell further enhance the practical learning experience.
