University of New Brunswick offers 150+ scholarships, of which 25+ are accessible to Indian applicants. The Fredericton campus disbursed over CAD 12.6 Million (INR 86 Crore) in entrance and renewable awards during the last cycle.

A mid-90s CBSE applicant can stack the Lady Vi Aitken Scholarship with the top International Recruitment Renewable Program tier. That combination trims yearly tuition by CAD 15,000 (INR 10.26 Lakhs) across four years.

    • Standard UG tuition (international): CAD 18,316 per year (INR 12.54 Lakhs)
    • With top Renewable Program tier (CAD 5,000/year): effective CAD 13,316 per year (INR 9.11 Lakhs)
    • Lady Vi Aitken plus Renewable Program combined: effective CAD 3,316 per year (INR 2.27 Lakhs)
    • Next major deadline: March 1, 2026 (UG entrance scholarship application via UNB Money Matters portal)

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 CAD = INR 68.42 as of August 2026. Amounts above INR 1 Lakh appear in Lakhs. Total cycle aggregates appear in Crore. Renewable means the award pays each year of study if you maintain the required average.

University of New Brunswick Scholarships for UG Students

Indian UG applicants can access 7 named entrance awards at University of New Brunswick, with recipient values from CAD 500 to CAD 120,000. The renewable tier program pays every year of study.

IB Entrance Scholarship$5,000 per yearINR 3.42 Lakhs/yearTop-ranked incoming IB Diploma international studentMarch 1, 2026

The Renewable Program pays across five bands based on your admission average. A 100% average unlocks CAD 5,000 per year (INR 3.42 Lakhs), renewable for up to four years. A 95 to 99.9% average pays CAD 4,000 per year (INR 2.74 Lakhs). A 90 to 94.9% average pays CAD 2,000 per year (INR 1.37 Lakhs).

The lower bands still contribute. An 85 to 89.9% average pays CAD 1,000 per year (INR 68,420). An 80 to 84.9% average pays CAD 500 per year (INR 34,210). CBSE and ISC percentages map directly to these bands after UNB’s admission review.

Reddit Insight: Average international award at UNB Fredericton was CAD 4,100 (INR 2.81 Lakhs) in 2021 to 2022 per the official Money Matters portal. CBSE 95%+ applicants typically clear the CAD 4,000 Renewable tier. They also qualify for Lady Vi Aitken consideration. Combined year-one value hits CAD 14,000 (INR 9.58 Lakhs).

Check the UNB admissions page for the entrance-average calculation UNB uses on Indian boards.

University of New Brunswick Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students

Indian Master’s applicants qualify for the PG Recruitment Funding Program at University of New Brunswick. The program bundles 3 named awards plus a minimum research stipend of CAD 23,500 per year (INR 16.08 Lakhs).

The Round 1 January 26, 2026 deadline carries a decisive advantage. Applicants in that pool see award notices before Round 2 opens. Round 2 pulls from remaining funds after the January awards commit.

Reddit Insight: Indian PG applicants report the Accelerated Masters CAD 8,000 (INR 5.47 Lakhs) award needs two things. First: prior UNB UG. Second: a faculty sponsor locked before you apply. Cold applications without a supervisor rarely convert.

Weigh your Round 1 file against likely stipend and tuition subsidy before you commit.

India-Specific Scholarships at University of New Brunswick

University of New Brunswick does not run a country-restricted India-only award. Instead, 5 pathways deliver strong India-facing value, ranging from IB-specific top-ups to alumni PG tuition parity.

    PathwayValueHow Indian applicants access it
Schulich Leader nomination via Indian schools$100,000 to $120,000 (INR 68.42 to 82.10 Lakhs)Indian CBSE, ICSE, or IB schools partnered with the Schulich Foundation; only the school can nominate
IB Entrance Scholarship$5,000 per year (INR 3.42 Lakhs)Top-ranked incoming IB Diploma international student; Indian IB graduates compete on academic score alone
Lady Vi Aitken Scholarship$10,000 per year for 4 years (INR 6.84 Lakhs/year)Top international UG applicant across all origins including India
    Renewable Program (95%+ average)$4,000 to $5,000 per year (INR 2.74 to 3.42 Lakhs)Achievable for CBSE 95%+, ISC 90%+, or IB 40 out of 45
Alumni Master’s tuition parityInternational tuition reduced to domestic rateIndian students who complete UG at UNB pay roughly CAD 8,000 instead of CAD 18,000 per PG year

Indian applicants typically build a stack rather than chase one big award. A realistic 4-year stack for a 95%+ CBSE Engineering applicant at University of New Brunswick:

    • Renewable Program (95 to 99.9% band): CAD 4,000 per year x 4 years = CAD 16,000 (INR 10.95 Lakhs)
    • Lady Vi Aitken Scholarship: CAD 10,000 per year x 4 years = CAD 40,000 (INR 27.37 Lakhs)
    • Dr. Salem and Laila Masry (Engineering): CAD 80,000 over program (INR 54.74 Lakhs), if awarded
    • Total realistic ceiling: CAD 136,000 (INR 93.05 Lakhs) across 4 years

The Schulich Leader route is narrow but high value. Only your school nominates you, and only one nomination per school per year is allowed under Schulich Foundation rules.

University of New Brunswick PhD Scholarships

University of New Brunswick funds Indian PhD entrants through 4 recruitment awards and an international subsidy. The subsidy drops tuition to domestic rates for years 1 to 3. Minimum PhD stipends run CAD 25,000 per year (INR 17.10 Lakhs).

Minimum PhD stipend (thesis)$25,000 per yearINR 17.10 Lakhs/yearAll thesis PhD studentsConfirmed at admission

A funded PhD offer at UNB typically bundles the tuition subsidy, a recruitment award, and stipend from your supervisor’s grant. Combined value clears CAD 40,000 per year (INR 27.37 Lakhs) for competitive Indian entrants.

The Round 1 January 26 deadline is the priority window. Applicants who submit a complete file (transcripts, GRE where required, supervisor commitment letter) by that date see the strongest offers.

External Government Scholarships for University of New Brunswick Students

Indian students at University of New Brunswick can stack 4 external Canadian government scholarships worth up to CAD 50,000 per year (INR 34.21 Lakhs). These sit on top of UNB’s own funding, not in place of it.

    ScholarshipValue (CAD)Value (INR)Eligibility for IndiansDeadline
Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship$50,000 per year for 3 yearsINR 34.21 Lakhs/yearIncoming PhD; academic excellence, research, leadershipTentative November 5, 2026 (via UNB institutional deadline)

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute FellowshipsUp to $15,000Up to INR 10.26 LakhsIndian students on qualifying India-Canada academic exchangeTentative January 15, 2027

Vanier CGS is the marquee PhD award for Indian applicants. UNB nominates candidates internally before the national November deadline, so your supervisor must flag your file by early September for institutional selection.

Banting requires an active affiliation with a Canadian university at the time of application. UNB’s Office of Research Services accepts Banting drafts on a rolling basis for feedback before the September lock.

Reddit Insight: Indian PhD entrants who won Vanier at UNB report a two-stage process. Round 1 is supervisor endorsement in July or August. Round 2 is the University-level review by October. Missing the July supervisor sign-off means no Vanier that year, regardless of merit.

University of New Brunswick Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian UG applicant can build at University of New Brunswick?

Ans. A CBSE 100% Engineering applicant can stack the Schulich Leader Scholarship at CAD 120,000 total (INR 82.10 Lakhs). Add the Renewable Program top tier of CAD 5,000 per year (INR 3.42 Lakhs). Combined value crosses CAD 140,000 (INR 95.79 Lakhs) across 4 years. Realistic stacks for 95%+ CBSE applicants sit at CAD 40,000 to 60,000 total. That maps to INR 27.37 to 41.05 Lakhs via Lady Vi Aitken plus a Renewable band.

Ques. When should Indian applicants submit UNB scholarship applications and when are decisions announced?

Ans. UG entrance scholarship files close March 1, 2026 via the UNB Money Matters portal. Award decisions land by April 30, 2026. PG and PhD applicants target the Round 1 January 26, 2026 deadline for the strongest offers. Round 2 closes March 16, 2026 and pulls from residual funds.

Ques. Do Indian applicants need a separate scholarship application, or does UNB auto-consider on admission?

Ans. The Renewable Program and Lady Vi Aitken auto-consider once you submit your admission application. Named entrance awards like Ted Rogers Legacy and Dr. Salem Masry need a separate scholarship application inside your UNB applicant account after admission. Schulich Leaders is a nomination-only track through your school; you cannot self-apply.

Ques. What CBSE, ISC, or IB score do I need for the top UNB Renewable Program tier?

Ans. The top CAD 5,000 (INR 3.42 Lakhs) band requires a 100% admission average. UNB converts CBSE, ISC, and IB scores using its own scale. A CBSE aggregate of 95%+ typically maps to the 95 to 99.9% band worth CAD 4,000 (INR 2.74 Lakhs). An IB score of 40 out of 45 lands in the same band.

Ques. What does the Lady Vi Aitken Scholarship cover and how competitive is it for Indian applicants?

Ans. The Lady Vi Aitken pays CAD 10,000 per year (INR 6.84 Lakhs) for 4 years, totaling CAD 40,000 (INR 27.37 Lakhs). It is awarded to the top international UG applicant of the incoming cycle. Selection is single-slot across all origins, so Indian applicants compete against every other international file. A 95%+ CBSE aggregate with strong extracurriculars is the realistic floor.

Ques. Does the UNB PhD International Subsidy fully cover living costs in Fredericton?

Ans. The subsidy covers tuition, not living costs. Fredericton monthly living runs CAD 1,000 to 2,000 (INR 68,420 to INR 1.37 Lakhs). Add the minimum PhD stipend of CAD 25,000 per year (INR 17.10 Lakhs). A funded PhD then covers rent, food, and utilities with a modest surplus.

$5000 for GMAT score

It was a great experience. Especially the overall academics and support from the staff/faculty. The MBA offered here is one of the least expensive ones in the whole of Canada however the ROI entirely depends on the student on how they get the best value out of it.

At first, I wasn't sure about how to apply so I only applied for an entrance scholarship and because my 12-grade grades weren't that good I got 1000$ only. However, for the next years, it depends on your GPA. You have to be on the dean's list to apply. This means a 3.7 or above GPA

The admission process is pretty chill. They don't make a drama about it, unlike some other universities. You need your transcripts and a letter. They reply very quickly as well. There wasn't any exam to be taken for the university. I took ielts for the visa process. I didn't use anything for IELTS. Studied by myself. I chose this university because it tells you about its scholarships. And that made me hopeful that maybe I could get some. And I loved the place Fredericton and loved the aesthetic of the university itself.

I am fully funded through a scholarship with the university. I received a nomination from my supervisor and was selected to receive the funding.

The university had an Institute of biomedical engineering. The institute specialized in prosthesis research, which was what I sought to get into. I also sought to work with the professors associated with the institute to supervise my research.

It's the best one in the city and affordable. I didn't want to have to move out of my home town because I don't have the money for that. I also had several friends who attended and graduated and I went to them for their opinions before applying. They all talked of the teachers they enjoyed and told me the pros and cons, helping me decide.
