What students say about University of Guelph

Likes

  • The course curriculum is a bit dry; they try to enhance classes with labs, but sometimes they arent very helpful.
  • They pay the minimum wage, but they are very convenient because you can take shifts between classes as well.
  • The Robert Orr Lawson Scholarship is awarded to students with an outstanding research project and a maintained GPA of 9.0 in all semesters. The scholarship amount is $5000, and it is available at the University of Guelph.
  • The campus is excellent, and extracurricular activities are happening, giving a good experience to bond with locals.
  • I lived on campus during the first year to get to know more people and form study groups.
  • For example, we have to pay a fee for the gym, but that doesnt give us even close to decent access to the gym, and the fee is mandatory.
  • Because they were all experts, we got to learn from the best of the best.
  • I received a scholarship worth 40,000 dollars and an opportunity to do a research project in special education.

Dislike

  • If people wanted cheaper tuition by choosing not to support these clubs, I think the campus atmosphere would be a bit dry

I chose it because of the overall rank of the university in canada. The cultural exposure and comforting environment was also my priority.

I received a full ride to the school (scholarships based on grades), I liked the upper year course selection (ex. Cardiology course), the campus and city were close to home and familiar to me, and I liked the amount of research at the school. I applied to five schools with similar degrees (all biology) and had a 96% average in grade twelve.

I opted for this particular university because it had the program I wanted and throughout the tour I just felt like it was a place where I should go the school. Everything I was exposed to before I applied met my needs both through education and as a living means. It's easy to go out and do things but there are so many resources available to do really well in school.

University of Guelph's ambassadors regularly visited our high school to offer more information and answer any questions we may have about any faculty. They provided several brochures which gave us plenty of insight into the campus life as well. I also attended an event known as "Ontario Universities' Fair" in Toronto where we were able to have conversations with a lot of current students at different universities before selecting which ones we wanted to apply to. I applied to about 4 universities and my top two I had trouble choosing between Guelph and Waterloo. I selected Guelph because it was a smaller school, I would be closer to home, and because I heard positive things about their science programs from upper-year students.

The campus was beautiful and easy to get around. Everyone on campus seemed so nice and welcoming. It also had professors who were well known in the industry I was looking to pursue. Giving me the opportunity to have them as references on my resume.

Location, program, and prices where all that I needed. I wanted to get away from my family and be on my own to discover myself. Plus there are lots of employment options nearby with constant transit.

I was looking to stay at home for the first year so Guelph was the ideal choice. I applied to Biomedical Toxicology since Guelph is known to have a reputable science program. Staying close to home as important to save money and keep other costs low.

I was able to live at home and save money for the first year. Guelph always had a reputation for a great science program so at the time when I was in Toxicology it seemed like a good university to attend. U of G is known for their agriculture, so when I switched to Animal Bio I knew that this university would help me reach my goals.
