Durham College Application Deadlines and Intakes

Durham College accepts international applications for three intakes each year, with September (Fall) as the primary intake because it opens the widest program set. The other two intakes are January (Winter) and May (Spring). Most programs run rolling admissions and accept applicants until seats fill; only highly competitive programs like Practical Nursing, Paramedic, and Dental Hygiene enforce fixed deadlines. The dates below are drawn from the Durham College international applicants page.

Durham College’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (September), where most 140+ programs open.

Durham College Eligibility for Indian Students

Durham College is an access-oriented polytechnic, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English thresholds; competitive programs then rank applicants by grades. The eligibility floors below apply to Indian applicants and come from the official international requirements page.

  • UG diploma and advanced diploma: Class XII completion (OSSD equivalent) with senior-level English and any program-specific prerequisites
  • Bachelor degrees (Honours): Class XII with 65 percent or higher, including Mathematics for STEM streams
  • Graduate certificates (PG): A completed Bachelor’s degree in a related field; some programs accept a two-or-three-year diploma
  • Practical Nursing: Class XII with Math, Biology, and Chemistry at 85 percent or higher (past cut-off 86.5 percent for May 2024 intake)

English proficiency scores are compared against the level being applied to. Durham College accepts a wide test list.

Durham College IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Indian applicants who have completed a minimum of three years of full-time secondary or post-secondary education in English medium in India may qualify for an English test exemption. The waiver is discretionary and requires the admissions officer to review your school’s medium of instruction certificate and transcripts. If you finished Class XII from a CBSE, ICSE, or state board school where English was the language of instruction and assessment, request the waiver in your application cover note and upload a formal MOI letter from your school.

Durham College Graduate Certificate Programs and English Scores

Durham College’s Graduate Certificate track is a one-year post-Bachelor’s route that pairs classroom learning with capstones, and it is the most common entry point for Indian PG applicants. Base tuition for a two-semester graduate certificate is roughly C$15,488.92 per year (about ₹10.61 Lakh) for standard programs, with higher-premium tracks like Cybersecurity and AI charging more. For per-program totals, see the course-wise fees breakdown.

Durham College Diploma and Bachelor Programs

Durham College’s UG track covers one-year certificates, two-year diplomas, three-year advanced diplomas, and four-year Honours Bachelor degrees. Diploma and advanced diploma programs accept a strong Class XII record, while the Honours Bachelor programs expect at least 65 percent in Class XII with Mathematics for STEM tracks. Base tuition for a standard two-semester diploma is C$15,488.92 per year (about ₹10.61 Lakh); Bachelor degrees run higher at roughly C$19,193.52 per year (about ₹13.15 Lakh).

Durham College Application Process Step by Step

International applicants use Durham College’s MyCampus Self Service Portal (SSP), not the Ontario Colleges Application Service (OCAS) that domestic applicants use. Plan for around six to eight weeks between application submission and offer, and start the process at least four months before your target intake.

  1. Create an account on the MyCampus SSP portal and pick your program from the 140+ full-time options.
  2. Review program-specific eligibility on the official Durham College page and confirm your Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts meet the floor.
  3. Upload each document (transcripts, passport, English test scorecard) as a separate PDF or JPEG file.
  4. Pay the C$100 (about ₹6,853) application fee via credit card on the MyCampus SSP portal. The fee is non-refundable.
  5. Monitor application status inside SSP within 14 business days; respond to any conditional requests from the International Education Office.
  6. Accept your offer and pay the first-semester tuition deposit through the portal to trigger your Letter of Acceptance.
  7. Complete the Provincial Attestation Letter eligibility form after paying, since Ontario requires a PAL for study permit applications.
  8. File your study permit application with IRCC and email Durham College at international@durhamcollege.ca once approved.

Durham College Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Durham College reviews complete applications on a rolling basis for most programs, and Indian applicants typically hear back within two to four weeks of a complete submission. Competitive programs like Practical Nursing publish decisions in waves after their fixed deadlines.

  • Complete file review: 14 business days for status update, 2 to 4 weeks for a decision on most programs
  • Conditional offer: Common for applicants who submit before final Class XII marks arrive; upgraded to unconditional after final transcript
  • Acceptance deadline: Applicants must accept and pay the first-semester tuition deposit by the date printed on the offer letter, typically 30 days from issue
  • Deferral policy: Durham College allows one-time deferral to the next intake if a study permit is delayed, subject to program availability
  • Letter of Acceptance: Issued only after deposit clears; this is the document you upload for your Canada study permit application

Durham College Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Every Indian applicant uploads the same core file set to the MyCampus SSP portal, plus program-specific extras (portfolio for design programs, work experience letter for Cybersecurity graduate certificate). Documents must be scanned in colour as separate PDF or JPEG files.

  • Valid Indian passport (bio-data page)
  • Class X and Class XII mark sheets and passing certificates (all boards accepted)
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and consolidated transcripts (for PG applicants)
  • English test scorecard: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo report
  • Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from your school, if claiming an English waiver
  • One-page Statement of Purpose explaining program fit and career goals
  • Updated CV (mandatory for graduate certificate applicants with work experience)
  • Portfolio (Animation, Fine Arts, Graphic Design applicants only)
  • Work experience letters (Cybersecurity graduate certificate; two years of IT work needed)
  • Notarized English translations of any transcript issued in a regional language

Before you apply: Request certified transcripts from your board or university at least eight weeks ahead. Indian state boards can take four to six weeks to issue duplicate mark sheets, and CBSE requires a fresh application through Pariksha Sangam for consolidated transcripts.

Durham College Acceptance Rate and Selectivity

Durham College does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Based on competitive-intake program patterns and public reporting from Ontario polytechnic colleges, the effective acceptance rate is estimated at 38 to 41 percent for Indian international applicants across all programs. For where Durham College sits among Ontario polytechnics, see its ranking band.

Durham College Program Selectivity for Indian Students

Selectivity varies sharply by program. Business, IT, and hospitality diplomas admit most qualified applicants and function as near-open-admission tracks. Health science programs, especially Practical Nursing and Paramedic, run at effective acceptance rates under 15 percent because they cap seats and demand Class XII cut-offs of 85 percent or higher.

Durham College Deferral and Waitlist Practice

Waitlists are used only for competitive programs. If you are waitlisted for Practical Nursing or Paramedic, you are moved to the next intake automatically if you request it in writing within 14 days. Non-competitive programs do not run waitlists because they admit on a rolling basis.

Insider note: Indian applicants targeting Practical Nursing should apply in the very first application window (January 15 for Fall) since the program routinely fills before the second review cycle. Waiting until March or April sharply lowers your odds.

Canada Student Visa for Durham College Students

Once Durham College issues your Letter of Acceptance, apply for a Canada Study Permit through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Ontario also requires a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), which Durham College generates after you pay your first-semester tuition. The Study Direct Stream (SDS) route for Indian applicants was discontinued in November 2024, so all Indian students now file under the regular study permit stream with a standard 8 to 12 week processing window.

Financial proof needs a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of C$20,635 (about ₹14.14 Lakh) from a participating Canadian bank, plus proof of first-year tuition payment. Biometrics are collected at any VFS centre in India after online application submission. On arrival in Canada, register with Durham College’s International Education Office within 14 days to activate your health coverage and confirm class enrolment.

2026 update: IRCC now caps international study permits per province and requires the PAL for every application. Indian applicants should budget an extra 2 to 3 weeks of processing time compared to previous cycles and file as soon as the Letter of Acceptance arrives.

Tips and Application Checklist for Durham College

The tips and steps below are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Durham College across the 2024 and 2025 intakes, and they emphasise timing over paperwork already covered above.

  • Apply in September or October for the following Fall intake to maximise Practical Nursing and Paramedic odds, since seats fill in the first review wave.
  • Request transcripts eight weeks early: CBSE consolidated transcripts and state-board duplicates routinely take four to six weeks in India.
  • Book IELTS ten weeks before submission to leave room for one retake if your Practical Nursing target of 7.0 misses on the first attempt.
  • Claim the MOI waiver upfront only when your school issues a formal letter naming English as the medium of instruction and assessment.
  • Pay the tuition deposit within 30 days of the offer letter, since Durham College releases the Letter of Acceptance only after the deposit clears.
  • Trigger the PAL immediately after deposit clearance; the form takes 5 to 10 business days and blocks your study permit filing until issued.
  • File the study permit within 14 days of receiving the Letter of Acceptance and PAL, given the 8 to 12 week IRCC processing window.
  • Read recent international student reviews before finalising Oshawa versus Whitby campus for classroom and housing fit.

Durham College’s admission floor is realistic for most Indian applicants, but competitive programs like Practical Nursing reward early filers and high Class XII marks. Lock in your MOI waiver evidence, request transcripts by end of Class XII, and target the January 15, 2027 window for Fall 2027 to keep every option live.

Overview

The admission process for college is relatively straightforward. We have to submit an application form, transcripts of all previous academic work, a copy of the PTE test & a copy of the passport and visa application form. I have an admission with the help of the consultant agency CanDream Consulting and Coaching.

Overview

My experience at Durham College was pretty great. The teachers were friendly and the courses were well-designed to allow us to learn about each and every aspect of Digital Media Management. We had students from different countries which added to the diversity. Overall, I would recommend future students to definitely check out Durham College if they are considering Canada as their study destination.

Scholarship

I got a scholarship of CAD 1000 for scoring a band of 7.5 in my IELTS. The scholarship was automatically added to my student account once I submitted my IELTS score.

Overview

I had done my Bachelors in the field, other colleges were not providing a three-year course for the program. Having good theoretical knowledge in this field, wanted to get more hands-on practice, which this college was providing. Most importantly they were providing placement options last year, which would give me a broader vision of whether I could survive in this field for the next 20-25 years of my life.

Scholarship

No, i did not get any scholarships.

Overview

I did my bachelors in computer science engineering and ever since I have worked as a Business Analyst. I chose this program to further my knowledge of Analytics and Data. It is a vast field and is highly in demand. I chose to come to Canada as the country is very accepting of immigrants like myself. I love how every festival or event is celebrated here as well. The reason why I chose Durham college was that it was the only college which offered me the course I was looking for.
