Baylor University admissions run through a private-university direct application, with the Common Application or the free goBAYLOR portal at undergraduate level and the GoGrad portal at graduate level, and Indian applicants typically need Class XII at 65 to 75 percent for a Bachelor’s seat and a four-year Bachelor’s with roughly 60 percent (a 3.0 GPA, or about 75 percent in Indian terms) for master’s entry.

  • The next primary-intake deadline is 1 November 2026 for Fall 2027 undergraduate Early Decision and Early Action rounds.
  • Base tuition is USD 63,620 (around INR 60.97 Lakhs) a year for undergraduate international students, with no application fee at undergraduate level and a USD 60 (around INR 5,750) application fee at graduate level.
  • Undergraduate entry asks for Class XII at 65 to 75 percent plus IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80; graduate entry asks for a four-year Bachelor’s at 60 percent (3.0 GPA) plus IELTS 6.5 (7.0 for business programs).
  • Baylor’s overall acceptance rate is 51 percent, placing it in the moderately selective band for private USA universities.

Popular programs for Indian applicants include the MS Computer Science, the Full-Time MBA in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation, the MS Biomedical Engineering, and the MS Information Systems, and Indian students describe Baylor University as a mid-sized Christian campus with strong faculty access and generous merit aid.

Status: Open. Baylor’s Fall 2027 primary intake is accepting applications now. The Common Application 2026-27 cycle opened 1 August 2026 for undergraduate use, and the next undergraduate binding Early Decision and non-binding Early Action deadline falls on 1 November 2026. Graduate applications route through the GoGrad portal at grad.baylor.edu/apply with a default Fall deadline of 15 February 2027. Undergraduates pay no application fee, and graduate programs charge a flat USD 60 (around INR 5,750).

Baylor University Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Baylor University runs a Fall (August) primary intake plus a smaller Spring (January) intake, per the international applicants timeline and the graduate school’s admissions catalog. Fall is the intake most Indian applicants target, because MBA, MS, PhD, and full undergraduate cycles all open there. Undergraduate applicants can apply through the Common Application or the free goBAYLOR portal; graduate applicants use the GoGrad portal at grad.baylor.edu/apply.

Baylor’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (August) — most programs open here.

Most graduate departments accept rolling applications after the priority date, but funding and I-20 timing tighten sharply once the priority window closes.

Planning note: Baylor’s UG International Final on 1 June is generous by USA standards, but I-20 issuance and F-1 visa slot availability in India tighten badly after March. Aim for the Early Action deadline of 1 November 2026 or Regular Decision by 1 February 2027 if you need a Fall 2027 start.

Baylor University Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at Baylor is set by the Graduate School (for master’s and PhD) and by Undergraduate Admissions (for Bachelor’s programs). Individual departments layer subject prerequisites and higher English floors on top of these institution-wide minimums.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 65 to 75 percent from a recognised Indian board, with subject prerequisites (Mathematics for engineering and computer science; Biology or Chemistry for pre-health).
  • PG general entry: A four-year Bachelor’s degree with at least 60 percent, or a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (about 75 percent in Indian terms).
  • MBA entry: Any four-year Bachelor’s, with three years of post-graduation work experience preferred for international applicants.
  • PhD entry: Master’s degree strongly preferred, plus a research statement and matched faculty advisor.

All accepted English proficiency tests and their minimum scores appear below, sourced from Baylor’s English Proficiency Examination page.

All three tests stay valid for two years from the test date. Baylor accepts IELTS Indicator, TOEFL Home Edition, and TOEFL MyBest Scores at the undergraduate level.

Baylor University English Waiver Options for Indian Students

Indian applicants can skip the English test entirely if they meet one of three conditions the Graduate School publishes on its proficiency page.

  • English-medium bachelor’s: A conferred Bachelor’s (or higher) from an institution where English is the only language of instruction. This covers most Indian central universities, IITs, IIITs, NITs, BITS, and many private universities.
  • US degree: A conferred Bachelor’s or higher from an accredited US institution.
  • US citizenship or permanent residency: Applies to Indian applicants only if they have already secured this status.

To claim a waiver, upload transcripts to your application and email GraduateAdmissions@baylor.edu with the request. Baylor reviews each case individually and may still ask for a test if instruction language is unclear on your transcript.

Insider note: Applicants from Indian universities that teach in Hindi or a regional language for a portion of coursework should submit a Medium of Instruction letter on university letterhead alongside the waiver request. Baylor rejects blanket claims that lack that documentation.

Baylor University PG Programs and English Scores

Baylor’s Graduate School and the Hankamer School of Business jointly host over 100 master’s and doctoral programs. The table below shows the eight programs Indian applicants most commonly target, with duration, subject prerequisites, and the verified English floor from each program page. Base tuition sits between USD 54,844 and USD 79,530 (roughly INR 52.56 Lakhs to INR 76.21 Lakhs) a year depending on the program and credit load; for detailed by-course tuition and living-cost figures see the program-wise fees breakdown.

Two letters of recommendation are required for master’s admission through GoGrad; the portal solicits contact details for three, and the third is welcomed if you provide it. Statement of purpose length and prompts vary by department.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Baylor Graduate School application page for your chosen program before applying.

Baylor University UG Programs and Requirements

Baylor’s undergraduate international admissions are handled by the Undergraduate Admissions Office and use a test-optional, holistic review. Base tuition is USD 63,620 (around INR 60.97 Lakhs) for the 2026-27 academic year, and the application itself is free. Indian applicants supply Class XII marksheets and any board-issued predicted marks for Class XII where results are pending.

ProgrammeDurationMinimum EligibilityEnglish Req. Min.
BS Computer Science4 yearsClass XII at 70%+ with Mathematics; SAT or ACT optionalIELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80, Duolingo 110
BS Biochemistry4 yearsClass XII at 70%+ with Chemistry and Biology; strong Math preferredIELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80, Duolingo 110

BS Nursing (Louise Herrington School)4 yearsClass XII at 75%+ with Biology and Chemistry; competitive reviewIELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80, Duolingo 110

Baylor accepts one year of full-time study at an English-medium USA high school as a substitute for a test score. Standardised tests (SAT or ACT) stay optional at the undergraduate level, though submitting a strong score can strengthen merit-aid consideration.

Baylor University Hankamer MBA Admissions

The Hankamer Full-Time MBA is a 21-month program with an Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation focus, based at the main Waco campus. There is no application fee at any Baylor MBA variant, and the GMAT or GRE stays optional (except the Pre-Clinical Track, which requires MCAT, DAT, or GRE).

Baylor University MBA Round Structure and International Deadline

Four rounds run through the year, but Indian applicants must slot into the first three to meet the international final.

RoundDeadlineDecisionIndian Applicant?
Early Decision15 November 20261 December 2026Yes
Round 115 February 20271 March 2027Yes
Round 2 (International Final)15 March 20271 April 2027Final round
Final15 May 20271 June 2027Domestic only

Baylor University MBA Documents and Interview

The application asks for a current resume, a one-page cover letter, one letter of recommendation (ideally from a direct supervisor or a professor), and transcripts from every degree-granting institution. Three years of post-Bachelor’s work experience is preferred for international candidates but not a strict minimum.

Shortlisted applicants receive an email invitation to schedule an admission and scholarship interview. Interviews are held by video (Zoom or Teams) for Indian applicants and cover career goals, leadership examples, and program fit. The interview is used for both admission and scholarship decisions, so preparation carries weight beyond the yes/no outcome.

Insider note: Baylor’s Full-Time MBA rounds run alongside a formal interview stage, but the domestic-only Final round (15 May) closes after the international window. Indian applicants must lock their file by 15 March 2027, regardless of visa timing.

Baylor University PhD Admission Pathway

Baylor offers PhDs across engineering, computer science, statistics, biosciences, education, and the humanities. All doctoral applications route through GoGrad at grad.baylor.edu/apply, use the same USD 60 (around INR 5,750) application fee, and require the higher PhD English floor.

Baylor University PhD English and Test Requirements

Research doctorate applicants need IELTS 6.5 minimum with no band below 6.0, or a Duolingo 125. GRE is program-specific: Computer Science makes GRE optional until Spring 2027, while several science PhDs still expect the general GRE. Contact the department for the exact score band.

Baylor University PhD Funding for Indian Students

Most PhD offers include a graduate assistantship covering full tuition plus a stipend for the 2026-27 academic year. Stipend amounts vary by department; the School of Engineering and Computer Science, for example, funds admitted PhD students competitively. Indian applicants applying by department priority dates (typically 1 January or 15 January for Fall) are considered for full-package funding, while later applicants may receive admit-only offers.

Planning note: PhD funding at Baylor is department-controlled, and later rolling applicants are almost always admit-only. If funding matters (and it usually does for Indian applicants), file by the department’s early January deadline for Fall 2027 entry rather than the Graduate School’s default 15 February.

Baylor University Application Process Step by Step

The application flow differs by level. Undergraduates can pick either the Common Application (a single form used for many US universities) or the free goBAYLOR portal directly. Graduate applicants use GoGrad only.

  1. Pick the portal. Undergraduates: create a Common App account at commonapp.org (the 2026-27 cycle opened 1 August 2026) and add Baylor, or open a goBAYLOR account at apply.baylor.edu. Graduate applicants: start at grad.baylor.edu/apply and select your target program.
  2. Pay the application fee. Undergraduate applications carry no application fee. Graduate applicants pay the USD 60 (around INR 5,750) application fee through the GoGrad portal after submission. MBA applicants pay no application fee at any Hankamer variant.
  3. Upload transcripts. Unofficial mark sheets and degree certificates are enough for review. Baylor requires official copies from your institution only after admission.
  4. Send test scores. IELTS or TOEFL scores go to Baylor’s CEEB code 6032 or via the test provider’s e-delivery. Duolingo scores go directly through the DET dashboard.
  5. Provide recommender contacts. Two references for master’s admission, three for PhD, and one for the Full-Time MBA. Baylor emails each recommender an automated link.
  6. Upload statement of purpose. Prompt and length vary by department, but a 700 to 1,000-word focused SOP works for most PG programs.
  7. Submit financial documents post-admission. An I-20 request needs a bank statement or affidavit of support showing at least one year of tuition plus living costs (approximately USD 85,000 to USD 95,000 for graduate students).

Baylor University Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Regular Decision undergraduate applicants receive an admission status update no later than 10 April 2027, per Baylor’s international admissions page. Early Action and Early Decision candidates hear back in mid to late December. Graduate decisions arrive on a rolling basis, typically two to four weeks after each department’s priority date. Full-Time MBA decisions follow the round schedule, with the international final Round 2 decision reaching applicants by 1 April 2027. Baylor honours the CGS 15 April deadline for Fall offer acceptance from applicants holding assistantship packages at multiple US universities.

Baylor University Documents Required

Indian applicants prepare a single documents pack that works across the Common App, goBAYLOR, and GoGrad portals. Everything below is paperwork; the academic thresholds and test floors that determine admission sit in the Eligibility section.

  • Passport bio page: Valid for at least six months beyond expected arrival in Waco.
  • Academic transcripts and mark sheets: Class X, Class XII, and semester-wise Bachelor’s mark sheets (uploaded unofficially at application; official versions sent after admission).
  • Degree certificates: Provisional or final degree from your Bachelor’s institution for master’s applicants; conferred degree for PhD applicants.
  • Statement of Purpose: Program-specific SOP, generally 700 to 1,000 words.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two for master’s, three for PhD, one for the Full-Time MBA. Submitted through automated recommender emails.
  • Resume or CV: Required for all graduate programs; strongly recommended for undergraduates highlighting research or competition credentials.
  • English proficiency score report: IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo, unless you qualify for a waiver.
  • Financial documents: Undergraduate BIFAA (Baylor International Financial Aid Application) for Fall 2027 entry, plus a bank statement for the I-20.
  • Credential evaluation (optional): WES or SpanTran evaluation, strongly encouraged for Indian three-year Bachelor’s degrees though not mandatory.
  • Passport-size photographs: Two recent photos for the F-1 visa application (not the Baylor application itself).

Baylor University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

Baylor’s overall acceptance rate stands at 51 percent, placing it in the moderately selective band among USA private universities. The rate reflects a holistic, test-optional review that weights Class XII performance, essay quality, extracurricular depth, and (for graduate applicants) research or work fit above single-number thresholds.

Baylor University Selectivity by Program

Program-level selectivity varies sharply. Full-Time MBA cohorts are small (typically under 100 students), so competition for scholarship interviews runs tighter than the headline rate suggests. Nursing, biochemistry, and pre-health tracks also run above the university average because of clinical seat caps. Engineering and computer science master’s programs stay closer to the Graduate School’s overall admit rate.

Baylor University Ranking Context for Indian Applicants

Baylor holds a US News National Universities rank of #88 for 2026 and appears in the QS World University Rankings 2026 ranking band of 1001-1200 globally. Indian applicants weighing selectivity against outcomes should read the acceptance rate alongside program-level placement data rather than as a single decision anchor.

Insider note: A 51 percent admit rate is far more welcoming than the top 20 US private universities, but Baylor’s yield is high and merit aid is competitive. Applicants at or just above the Class XII floor (65 to 70 percent) benefit most from strong essays and quantified extracurricular impact.

USA F-1 Student Visa for Baylor University Admits

Indian admits to Baylor apply for the F-1 student visa after receiving Form I-20 from Baylor’s Center for Global Engagement. The F-1 category permits full-time study, on-campus work up to 20 hours a week, and Optional Practical Training (OPT) of 12 months post-graduation, extended to 36 months total for STEM-designated programs (which includes MS CS, MSBA, and MSIS at Baylor).

The visa process runs in four steps: pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,540), complete the DS-160 non-immigrant visa application online, pay the MRV visa fee of USD 185 (around INR 17,729), and book a visa interview at a US Consulate in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, or New Delhi. Interview slots in India tighten between May and July, so book the moment your I-20 arrives. Full step-by-step guidance for Indian applicants is on our F-1 student visa guide.

Financial proof at the interview covers one full year of tuition plus living expenses, typically USD 85,000 to USD 95,000 (around INR 81.46 Lakhs to INR 91.04 Lakhs) for graduate students and USD 90,000 to USD 98,000 (around INR 86.25 Lakhs to INR 93.91 Lakhs) for undergraduates. Bank statements dated within three months, education loan sanction letters from Indian lenders, and sponsor income tax returns are all accepted.

2026 update: The US Department of State has moved F-1 visa dropbox eligibility for renewal cases from 48 months to 12 months from prior visa expiry. First-time student applicants must still attend an in-person interview at a US Consulate in India.

Tips and Application Checklist for Baylor University Admissions

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Baylor. They mix insight tips with timeline-anchored actions in the run-up to Fall 2027 entry; more program-level cost-of-living context is on our USA cost of living guide.

  • Build the file six months before deadline: Baylor’s international timeline recommends starting early, and I-20 timing after admission takes another four to six weeks.
  • Request transcripts eight weeks before your target date: Indian university transcript issuance is slow, and Baylor accepts unofficial uploads only for the initial review.
  • Claim the English waiver where you qualify: If your Indian Bachelor’s is fully English-medium, email GraduateAdmissions@baylor.edu with a Medium of Instruction letter and skip the IELTS entirely.
  • Apply by MBA Early Decision (15 November 2026): Scholarship pools at Hankamer are largest in the first two rounds. Waiting for Round 2 costs candidates on aid, not admission.
  • Pick a portal, not both: If you apply through the Common App, Baylor still emails you goBAYLOR credentials within 48 hours. Filing twice creates duplicate records and slows review.
  • Send test scores 10 to 14 days ahead of the deadline: ETS and IELTS e-delivery to Baylor’s CEEB 6032 can take up to two weeks in peak season.
  • Book the F-1 interview slot the day your I-20 arrives: Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi consulate slots for May to August fill within hours in the summer window.
  • Line up two academic and one professional reference by August 2026: Master’s applications need two, but Baylor invites three, and a workplace reference lifts non-CS applications.

Baylor University’s admissions cycle for Fall 2027 is open, with a free undergraduate application, a USD 60 (around INR 5,750) graduate fee, and rolling review beyond the primary priority dates. Indian applicants who file by early November for undergraduate rounds or by 15 February for graduate programs get the strongest scholarship and I-20 timing.

Baylor University Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions

Overview

Combination of Academics and scholarships. Baylor had a good honours college with a flexible degree program, it was a faith-based school, and they basically paid me to go there. The residential college community was also good.

Scholarship

I had a lot of financial aid. My tuition was all paid for, with an additional 6000 scholarship from the honours college, a 1000 scholarship from some sort of baptist heritage fund, a 2000 scholarship from National Merit, and I think another scholarship too of around 2500. Additionally, when I studied abroad for a semester, I was given another 4000.

Overview

The programs offered are extraordinary, the community is tight yet still has that larger school atmosphere, it's just far enough from home to feel independent yet not unreachable in case of an emergency, and the value is good considering scholarships and financial aid.

I have both financial aid and scholarships, the process isn't too complicated. Make sure to send in the FASFA on time and I believe scholarships favor early applicants so don't wait until the last minute. There are a few short essays involved but it's not too difficult.
