University of Texas, San Antonio Application Deadlines 2026-27

University of Texas, San Antonio runs three intakes each academic year, but Fall is the primary intake where most degree programs open seats. University of Texas, San Antonio Eligibility and English Requirements

UTSA sets separate academic floors for undergraduate and graduate international admission, then layers on a standard English proficiency requirement. Meeting the minimums is not a guarantee of a seat; competitive programs review the whole application against the applicant pool for that term.

  • UG academic floor: Class XII (CBSE, ICSE, or state board) equivalent to a US high school diploma, evaluated by UTSA International Admissions.
  • PG academic floor: Bachelor’s from a recognised Indian university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (broadly around 65 percent).
  • GRE / GMAT: not required for most Master’s or MBA programs; competitive scores can strengthen the file.
  • Credential evaluation: a course-by-course report from a NACES-approved agency is required for any coursework completed outside the US.

The full accepted English test list, drawn from the UTSA international undergraduate catalog, is shown below.

English Test UG Minimum PG Minimum
IELTS 6.5 overall 6.5 overall
TOEFL iBT 79 79
PTE Academic 58 Program-specific
Duolingo English Test 95 100
iTEP Academic 3.8 Program-specific
Cambridge C1 Advanced Grade C, scale 180+ Program-specific

UTSA IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Indian applicants can request an English proficiency waiver under any of these pathways. If you attended an English-medium Class XII school with three years of English coursework, submit the transcript with the school’s medium-of-instruction letter and UTSA will review a waiver. UG applicants who score SAT Reading and Writing 500 or above, or ACT English 21 or above, are automatically exempt. Graduate applicants who have already completed a Bachelor’s or higher in the United States are also exempt. Applicants from the 34 listed English-speaking countries are exempt by default, though most Indian applicants will use the SAT/ACT route or the medium-of-instruction route.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official UTSA international page for your chosen program before applying.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official UTSA graduate admissions page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Texas, San Antonio Undergraduate Programs Admissions

Undergraduate international applicants apply through ApplyTexas or the Common App. Base non-resident UG tuition is USD 27,598 per year (INR 26.33 Lakhs), with differential fees on some upper-division engineering and business courses. The Class XII certificate is treated as broadly equivalent to a US high school diploma, but competitive UG programs still look for strong Mathematics and English marks.

Programme Duration Minimum Eligibility English Req. Min.
BS Computer Science 4 years Class XII with 65 percent, Mathematics through Class XII IELTS 6.5
BS Cyber Security 4 years Class XII with 65 percent, Mathematics through Class XII IELTS 6.5

BS Biology 4 years Class XII Science stream with 65 percent IELTS 6.5

University of Texas, San Antonio MBA Admissions for Indian Applicants

The Carlos Alvarez College of Business MBA at UTSA is a 36-credit AACSB-accredited program with four delivery options that Indian applicants can pick from. GMAT and GRE scores are optional, but a competitive score can help borderline files.

  • Full-time MBA: 1.5 to 2 years, evening in-person classes.
  • Part-time MBA: 2 or more years, self-paced.
  • Accelerated MBA: 11-month fixed cohort, ideal if you want to return to India quickly.
  • Online MBA: 1 to 2 years, fully online, self-paced.

UTSA MBA Deadlines and Application Fee

International MBA priority deadlines are 1 June for Fall and 1 November for Spring, drawn from the official UTSA MBA program page. The application fee is USD 90 (INR 8,586) for international applicants. Some professional experience is recommended for all formats, though there is no fixed minimum year requirement for the full-time or accelerated tracks; the online and part-time formats generally attract working professionals with two or more years of experience.

UTSA MBA English Requirements

You must submit TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, or Duolingo 100, and scores older than two years are rejected. An interview is not a published mandatory stage, but the MBA Programs Committee may request one for borderline files at its discretion.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official UTSA MBA page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Texas, San Antonio PhD Admissions and Funding

UTSA runs 35 doctoral programs plus eight health-professional doctorates. Most PhDs are structured as five-year, full-funding tracks where admitted students receive a teaching or research assistantship that covers tuition and pays a stipend. Programs in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, and Chemistry are the most common routes for Indian STEM applicants.

UTSA PhD Eligibility

A Bachelor’s or Master’s with a strong academic record is required. UTSA does not publish a hard cut-off above the 3.0 GPA institutional floor, but competitive doctoral offers typically go to applicants with a research profile, one or two publications or a thesis, and clear alignment with a named faculty advisor.

UTSA PhD Funding and Stipend

Doctoral funding is program-specific. Indian applicants should identify a target advisor early and reach out with a research statement before the program deadline; funding decisions are typically finalised alongside admission decisions. Detailed funding options for Indian students, including the International Student Grant and the Good Neighbor scholarship, are covered in the linked scholarships hub.

Insider note: Contact the target PhD advisor 3 to 4 months before the deadline. UTSA doctoral admissions committees weight faculty advocacy heavily, so a one-line "yes, apply and mention me" from a lab head can move your file from waitlist to funded offer.

University of Texas, San Antonio Application Process and Decisions

UTSA has a straightforward, portal-based application process. Undergraduates use ApplyTexas or the Common App; graduate applicants use the Graduate School’s dedicated portal on the UTSA Future Roadrunner site.

  1. Choose your intake and confirm the exact program deadline on the UTSA Future Roadrunner portal.
  2. Create your account and start your online application in ApplyTexas (UG) or the UTSA Graduate application (PG).
  3. Upload unofficial transcripts, your statement of purpose, resume, and two or three letters of recommendation, requested through the portal.
  4. Send your English test scores directly from IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo to UTSA; institution code is 6919 for TOEFL.
  5. Order a course-by-course credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency, required for Indian degrees.
  6. Pay the application fee of USD 75 (INR 7,155) for UG or USD 90 (around INR 8,586) for international PG on the portal; no fee waivers are offered to international applicants.
  7. Submit financial documents once admitted, so UTSA can issue the I-20 for the F-1 visa interview.

UTSA Admission Decision Timeline

UG decisions are typically released on a rolling basis 4 to 8 weeks after a completed application, with a hard cut-off at the term deadline. Graduate decisions vary by department: highly competitive labs may take 8 to 12 weeks. Once admitted, you receive an I-20 within 2 to 3 weeks of submitting financial documents. Offers are conditional until final transcripts and English scores are verified, and UTSA allows a one-term deferral request in writing.

University of Texas, San Antonio Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Document errors are the single largest reason Indian applications stall at UTSA. The list below is what the international admissions office needs on file to move your application into review, drawn from the official international admissions checklist.

  • Valid Indian passport with at least six months of validity beyond the intended arrival date.
  • Class X, Class XII, and Bachelor’s mark sheets in the original language and a certified English translation.
  • Degree certificate or provisional certificate for graduate applicants.
  • NACES-approved credential evaluation, course-by-course, for all Indian post-secondary coursework.
  • Statement of purpose covering academic background, research fit, and career plans.
  • Two or three letters of recommendation, uploaded by referees via the portal.
  • Updated CV or resume covering academics, projects, publications, and work experience.
  • English test score report sent directly from IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo.
  • Financial affidavit and bank statement covering at least one year of tuition plus living costs, submitted after conditional admission for the I-20.
  • Copy of the passport bio page for the I-20 issuance.

University of Texas, San Antonio Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

UTSA’s overall acceptance rate is around 77%, per US News, which places it in the slightly selective ranking band among US public research universities. Indian applicants who clear the academic and English floors, and who apply by the deadline with complete documents, sit comfortably inside that acceptance pool.

Which UTSA Programs are Most Selective?

Selectivity varies sharply by program. Klesse College of Engineering programs, particularly Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Data Analytics, run tighter competitive review because seats are capped for the international pool. Alvarez College of Business Master’s, especially MS Business Analytics and the Accelerated MBA, also carry higher internal cut-offs than the university-wide numbers suggest.

How Indian Students Can Strengthen Their UTSA Application

The three levers Indian applicants control are: English test buffer above 6.5 in IELTS or 90 in TOEFL, a Bachelor’s percentage of 70 or higher for competitive Master’s, and a strong statement of purpose that names a specific UTSA lab, faculty member, or industry link in San Antonio. A GRE score in the 155 to 160 range in Quant, though optional, still helps borderline STEM Master’s files.

Insider note: The 77% institutional figure is misleading for competitive STEM Master’s. For MS Computer Science and MS Data Analytics, the effective international admit rate sits closer to 40 to 50% for well-prepared Indian files.

USA F-1 Student Visa for University of Texas, San Antonio Admits

Admitted Indian students need a US F-1 student visa to enrol at UTSA. Once your admission is confirmed, UTSA’s Office of International Programs issues a Form I-20, which you use to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,390) and to book your visa appointment at a US embassy or consulate in India. The DS-160 visa application fee is USD 185 (around INR 17,649), paid to the US embassy portal.

Bring the I-20, DS-160 confirmation, SEVIS receipt, passport, admission letter, academic transcripts, English test scores, and financial documents covering at least one academic year of tuition plus living costs to the consular interview. All F-1 students must also carry medical, evacuation, and repatriation insurance while enrolled at UTSA per UT System policy. Slot availability at Mumbai and Delhi consulates tightens between April and July, so book the earliest slot released after you receive the I-20.

Planning note: Aim to complete the SEVIS payment within a week of receiving the I-20 and book the visa slot the same day. Indian F-1 slot demand routinely runs six to eight weeks ahead of embassy availability during the Fall rush.

Tips for University of Texas, San Antonio Admissions

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at University of Texas, San Antonio and reflect where files actually stall or accelerate.

  • Apply in the Fall priority window, before the internal 15 January financial aid date, to be reviewed for any need-based UTSA grant.
  • Route your English score through the SAT waiver if your Reading and Writing is 500 plus, since it skips the IELTS booking entirely.
  • Use the NACES evaluator early because credential evaluations can take four to six weeks and are a common bottleneck for Indian mark sheets.
  • Name a specific UTSA faculty member in your statement of purpose for STEM Master’s, since it signals research fit to the admissions committee.
  • Skip the GRE only if your Bachelor’s percentage is 70 or above; a competitive GRE score meaningfully lifts files below that threshold.
  • Attend a UTSA online information session as an MBA applicant to unlock the one-time application fee waiver they run.

University of Texas, San Antonio Admissions Checklist

The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete on a Fall 2027 primary intake timeline, sequenced from earliest to latest.

  • 10 to 12 months out: Book the IELTS or TOEFL date so scores land at UTSA six weeks before deadline.
  • 8 to 10 months out: Order the NACES course-by-course credential evaluation of Class XII and Bachelor’s marksheets.
  • 6 to 8 months out: Request all three recommendation letters and draft the statement of purpose in parallel.
  • 4 months out: Open the ApplyTexas or UTSA Graduate application, upload documents, and pay the application fee.
  • 2 to 3 months out: Submit financial documents to trigger I-20 issuance immediately after admission.
  • 4 to 6 weeks pre-arrival: Pay SEVIS I-901, book the F-1 visa slot, and buy the mandatory F-1 insurance policy.

Scholarship

  • Lots of scholarships are available.
  • But I didn't get any scholarship while getting admission. But through my department I get one after getting the on-campus job. The amount of scholarship is 1000 USD. Some of my friends get a scholarship from Indian student association and that amount is also 1000 USD.
  • They also get instate fees benefits through that. I don't know the average number of students who receive scholarship but mostly students get financial aid from the department.
