Point Park University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants must clear academic and English proficiency thresholds and submit a credential evaluation of their Indian transcripts.

Point Park University PG Requirements

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with QPA 2.75/4.0 (MBA, MA Broadcasting) or QPA 3.0/4.0 (MS Information Systems, MA Community Psychology). Indian applicants should target 55% to 60% or CGPA 5.5 to 6.0 on a 10-point scale.
  • English: TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 115 (MBA only). Higher subscores apply for MA Broadcasting (IELTS writing 7.0) and Psy.D. Clinical Psychology (IELTS 8.0).
  • Credential evaluation: WES or ECE course-by-course evaluation required for all foreign transcripts.
  • Standardised tests: GRE and GMAT are not required for admission.

Point Park University UG Requirements

  • Academic: Class 12 with a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.5/4.0, roughly 65% to 70% under CBSE or ISC scoring (recommended). University-preparatory curriculum with three years of mathematics, three years of science and two years of history required.
  • English: TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 105, SAT Verbal 470, or ACT English 17. India is not on the English test-waiver country list.

Key insight: Applicants can matriculate without TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores by completing an approved English language instruction programme, which is a useful backup route for Indian applicants who miss the score cut-off.

Point Park University Acceptance Rate 2027

Point Park University reports an acceptance rate of 82% (estimated) for undergraduate applicants, placing it in the accessible tier of US private universities. The university does not publish separate admit rates for international or graduate applicants, and third-party trackers show a range from 67% to 97% across recent editions.

The high admit rate reflects Point Park’s rolling admissions philosophy and its open-access mission for career-oriented students. Meeting the published GPA and English test minimums remains the practical bar for Indian applicants.

Reality check: A high acceptance rate does not remove the visa hurdle. Indian applicants still face F-1 interview scrutiny and must prove funds of USD 55,000 to 65,000 (INR 52.0 to 61.4 lakh) for one academic year, including tuition and living costs.

Subject rankings for Point Park’s Education programmes have surfaced in secondary trackers, but the university does not hold a verified subject-level rank in QS or THE 2026 or 2027 editions.

Key insight: For Indian applicants relying on visa consular officers and Indian employers, Point Park’s US News National placement plus its formal US regional accreditation (Middle States Commission on Higher Education) are the credentials that carry weight; the absence of a QS rank does not disqualify STEM MS graduates from OPT.

Point Park University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Point Park University’s career outcomes centre on Pittsburgh’s media, business and healthcare ecosystems, with STEM graduates additionally eligible for the 36-month OPT extension.

  • Career support: The Center for Career and Professional Development runs internship matching, resume clinics and on-campus recruiting; institutional placement rate is not centrally published.
  • Median starting salary: Not officially disclosed by the university; PayScale reports a national market median of USD 55,000 to 65,000 (INR 52.0 to 61.4 lakh) for MBA graduates and USD 45,000 to 55,000 (INR 42.5 to 52.0 lakh) for MS Information Systems graduates as broader market estimates.
  • Recruiting sectors: Pittsburgh employers include PNC Financial Services, Highmark Health, UPMC, BNY Mellon and Rand Corporation; specific hire counts by employer are not officially published.
  • Post-study work: All F-1 graduates qualify for 12-month OPT; STEM-designated MS graduates gain a 24-month OPT extension, totalling 36 months on-visa work authorisation.
  • Alumni notes: Notable alumni include TV personality Jean Miele and journalist Marty Griffin; the university does not publish an Indian alumni registry.

Insider note: Indian graduates target the MS Information Systems and Business Analytics route because its STEM status extends work authorisation to three years, giving multiple H-1B lottery cycles; MBA and communication graduates rely on the 12-month base OPT.

[Source: US News Best Colleges 2026; peer fee bands are market estimates unless separately verified]

Point Park stands out for its Downtown location and its combination of performing-arts and STEM MS programmes at a per-credit tuition below most private peers. It trades broader research depth and PhD breadth for lower cost and stronger vocational focus.

Point Park University is the right fit for Indian students who want a US-accredited degree in the USD 30,000 to 50,000 tuition band (INR 28.4 to 47.3 lakh), with median-salary ROI landing in the USD 55,000 to 65,000 (INR 52.0 to 61.4 lakh) range post-OPT; its STEM MS carries the 36-month F-1 OPT extension that makes multi-cycle H-1B attempts possible.

It is not the right fit for applicants targeting top-100 US News rankings, deep PhD research, or Ivy-league brand recognition; those students should consider Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh or Duquesne as stronger regional alternatives.

Point Park University FAQs

Ques. Which Point Park University master’s degrees carry STEM designation for Indian students?

Ans. The MS in Information Systems and Business Analytics is Point Park University’s flagship STEM-designated master’s programme. It qualifies graduates for the 24-month OPT STEM extension, taking total post-study work authorisation to 36 months. Other Business and Communication master’s programmes do not currently carry STEM designation, so Indian applicants prioritising long US work eligibility should confirm the STEM CIP code on the programme page before applying.

Ques. What English test waiver options does Point Park accept for Indian applicants?

Ans. Point Park University does not list India on its English-test-waiver country list. Indian applicants can either submit TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.5 for graduate admission, or complete an approved English language instruction pathway on arrival. Successful completion of that programme allows matriculation to most degrees without a TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score. This is a useful backup for applicants who fall short of the standard score cut-off.

Ques. How much on-campus work can international students do at Point Park?

Ans. F-1 visa students at Point Park can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during active semesters and 40 hours per week during official breaks. Common on-campus roles include library assistants, teaching assistants, and food-service positions. Off-campus employment during studies requires either Curricular Practical Training (CPT) tied to coursework or Optional Practical Training (OPT) approval, both handled by the International Student Services and Enrolment office.

Ques. Does Point Park require GRE or GMAT for master’s programmes?

Ans. Point Park University does not require GRE or GMAT scores for general graduate admission. The MBA, MS Information Systems and Business Analytics, MA programmes and most master’s degrees admit on academic transcript, English proficiency, letters of recommendation and personal statement. Doctoral programmes may request additional academic proof. Indian applicants save on test costs and preparation time, though a strong GRE can strengthen borderline applications.

Ques. What education loan partners recognise Point Park University for Indian students?

Ans. Indian non-collateral lenders like Prodigy Finance, MPOWER Financing and Leap Finance typically cover accredited US universities, and Point Park’s Middle States accreditation qualifies. Collateral-backed loans from HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and SBI generally accept Point Park’s Form I-20 and admission letter as sanction documents. Applicants should confirm the university code on each lender portal before locking in a loan sanction letter for the visa interview.

Ques. Are there dependent visa options for Point Park F-1 students?

Ans. Dependants of Point Park F-1 students can apply for the F-2 visa, covering spouses and unmarried children under 21. F-2 dependants may not accept employment in the US and may enrol only in avocational or recreational study; F-2 children can attend K-12 school. The primary F-1 holder must show additional financial proof of approximately USD 7,000 to 10,000 (INR 6.6 to 9.5 lakh) per dependant on the I-20.

Ques. How does Point Park handle conditional admission for international students?

Ans. Point Park University issues conditional admission when an applicant meets academic requirements but falls short on English proficiency. Conditional students enrol in the approved English language instruction pathway and matriculate into the full degree upon meeting the exit standard. The Form I-20 is issued for the combined pathway plus degree, allowing a single visa interview. This route is useful for Indian applicants with strong academics but a TOEFL score of 60 to 78.

Ques. What credential evaluation services does Point Park accept for Indian transcripts?

Ans. Point Park University accepts course-by-course evaluations from WES (World Education Services) and ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators) for Indian bachelor’s and Class 12 transcripts. Evaluations typically take three to eight weeks depending on the service tier chosen. Applicants should initiate evaluation eight to ten weeks before their target application deadline, since Indian universities can take two to four weeks to release official transcripts directly to the evaluator.

Overview

I chose it because of its location in a Downtown urban area close to many entertainment venues which is where I hope to work after graduating. It one of the only schools in the country to offer the Sports, Arts and Entertainment Management degree and does a great job with doing so.
